THE HOSPITAL
THIRD PERSON POV
After what happened at the hotel with the crowd interrupting Nicks way to the ambulance with Maya, he made sure that his security team brought by Roman reaches the hospital before hand and clears the way so that no one is able to block his way in there with Maya.
The minute that the ambulance reached the hospital premises, Maya was shifted to a stretcher and rushed inside for treatment as Nicholas never left Mayas hand until Maya was taken inside the operation theatre where she needed to be operated due to her deep wounds. As Nick looked at Mayas blood stained hands slip from his own, he felt as if his entire world was falling apart. After a very long time, precisely after undergoing his fathers training for becoming the way the latter wanted him to, today was the first time that Nicholas felt scared. The woman whom he didnt even care about few months ago, today had become a very important and big part of his life.
Unable to think anything straight, Nick just sat by the nearby bench and stared at the red light above the OT door indicating that the operation had started.
"Nickkk....
Hows Mayaa..??"
Wesley asks as he runs in there with completely concern written all over his face.
Wesley also knew about everything that happened at the hotel after all he was at the police commissioner's office to request for help and had also seen what happened there thanks to live broadcasting done by the news channels. Hence without wasting time after seeing Nicks angered reaction on the TV, he ran out of the office and drove to the hospital to see the gravity of the situation.
"Shes inside.... They are operating on her..!!"
Nick replied recognizing Wesleys voice even though his eyes never left the closed door.
With the way Nick replied him, Wesley knew that things were not in a very favorable way after all he had managed to catch a glimpse of Maya whilst she was in Nicholas arms in the TV. If he didnt know that the woman in Nicks arms was Maya, maybe he wouldnt have been even able to recognize her as her face and clothes were completely red due to the blood. Even though he didnt wanted to, Wesley couldnt help but ask due to his genuine concern for Maya;
" How bad is she..??"
" Bad Wes...!!???
Saying that she's bad will be an understatement this time..!!! "
Nick spoke as his red worried eyes finally met those of Wesley revealing a glimpse of bad vibes, uncertainty and worry, it is the first time ever that Wesley is seeing his friend like that. In the past Wesley had seen Nick stand strong without any second doubts especially after his mothers death. Because of his fathers stubborn cruel behavior, Wesley had witnessed all the bad horrible things that Nicholas was forced to go through and endure during his childhood but not even once did Nick seem to be uncertain or worried. Maybe thats because at that time Nick knew that he had to be very strong and endure all of that for Roman because after Romas death, the only protector that Roman had was only Nicholas.
But today after knowing all what happened, Wesley felt that the Nicholas with whom he had been staying along with all these years is no longer the same. Something had changed with him. The ruthless, cruel and insensitive business monster had changed.
Wesley informed Nicholas that Gracy had fainted and was also in the same hospital as Roman stayed by her side and after that both the guys sat quietly for few minutes waiting for someone to exit the operation room so that they could get an update on Maya. But no one came out and suddenly they heard a familiar worried voice.
" Nicholas...!!!
Where is my daughter..?? "
The boys looked in the voices direction only to see Mike running towards them in a disheveled way with some guy running behind him. Looks like Mike also came to know about all what happened at the hotel was what the boys thought as Mike approached them.
Since Nick was already in a bad mood, he didnt wanted to say anything but since Mike happened to be Mayas father, Nick said;
" The doctors took her inside, the operation is still going on.!! "
Mike was about to add something but before he could, they heard Gracys voice.
" Dadaaa.....!!!!!
Where is Maya..???"
Gracy questioned Mike as she spotted him the first as she ran there along with Roman after she woke up overtaking the man who came along with Mike.
Gracy who had fainted due to the shock of seeing Maya in such a frightening condition and was brought to the hospital by Roman and as soon as she woke up, she remembered the reality and all she knew that she had to be with Maya at this time. Hence Roman who was by her side had no other choice but to take Gracy to the Operation Theater where Maya was taken.
" She's inside Gracy..!!
She will be okay...!!
But you need to calm down..!!"
Mike said as he placed his hands on Gracys cheeks cupping her face as he talked with great concern in his voice shocking everyone there.
Mike never ever talked with such care and concern to his own daughter Maya like that but Gracy who happened to be his daughters best friend, how did he manage to be calm and concerned with her.? And Gracy..?? What happened to her..?? She always addressed Mike as Mr Stones, but what happened all of a sudden..?? Why did she call Mike DADA out of the blue..?? Why did Mike have no objections about this..??
Before anyone could say anything, the man who came along with Mike said grabbing everyones attention;
" I'm so sorry boss..!!
After the fire alarm went on at the hotel, things went out of hand and I...."
" SHUT UP VINCENT..!!!
Just shut your bloody mouth..!!!
You had one job..!! Just one..!!
And you good for nothing couldnt even do it well..!!!
All you had to do was to make sure that my daughters stay out of danger..!! "
Mike rebuked the man loudly clearly pissed at him whos face Nicholas thought is familiar but still at this point that was not seemed to be as important as the other detail which caught the boys attention.
All the three boys repeated Mikes word just after him in an all dumbfounded manner ;
" DAUGHTERS..?? "
While Gracy who also seemed shocked by the latters appearance said at the same time as the boys;
" VINCENT..?? "
Hearing the boys and Gracy talk at the same time, it didnt take Mike more than few seconds to realize that driven by his anger and present worried state of mind, Mike had stated a part of the secret that he has been hiding from Jennifer and the entire world from years.
" Dada...
What is going on..??
Why is Vincent here..?? And what..?? "
Gracy questioned Mike while Vincent looked at Mike even more worried than before but noticing that Nicholas and the other two boys were also there, Mike spoke in a much more composed yet ordering way to Vincent;
" Go out and make sure that nobody comes here..
And if you see Jennifer here, inform me as soon as possible."
Hearing that Vincent left from there without being having to be told twice and did as instructed by Mike. And once Vincent was gone from there, Mike turned towards Gracy and explained;
" Gracy.. I had hired Vincent as a private bodyguard for you and Maya for your protection. Since I could not be with you both most of the time nor talk to you both freely and also because of Jennifer and my work, I was worried about your safety. That why I hired Vincent without anyone else knowing and made him join the NGO as a volunteer so that he could near you both and protect you and Maya if the situation gets bad. Off course Maya never knew about this but I never told you as well as I didnt wanted you to ever feel as if you're not safe.
But clearly it was of no use. As when time came, he wasnt able to protect neither you nor Maya.!
I'm sorry Gracy..
It's all my fault.. I promised that I will protect you and Maya but...
Clearly I couldnt do it... else our Maya would not have been such a state.. "
Mike said in a sad self blaming tone as he felt that he had again failed in his duties as a father as he couldnt ever be there for Gracy nor Maya and even now he had failed to keep his daughters safe.
" No Dada...
It's not your fault..
You did your best to keep both of us safe..
You even distanced yourself completely from both of us so that well be safe.
What happened today was definitely not your fault but mine..!!
All this happened because I forgot that Monica was left behind..!! "
Gracy said still very emotional and remembering all what occurred.
However hearing the ongoing conversation between Mike and Gracy, Nicholas only got more and more confused than ever and since he was already on a terrible mood, Nicholas just cut the two as he said;
" Will someone explain me what the bloody hell is going here..??
Mike .. Gracy..
What you do mean by all that..??? "
At this point Gracy and Mike looked at each other, and as if taking the initiative, Gracy stepped forward and started talking slowly wiping away the tears that had fallen down her eyes when she was talking to Mike;
" You guys remember on our trip to Switzerland, Roman you said that Maya and I are blessed to have each other as best friends, and I snapped back at you and said that Maya and me are not only best friends but sisters as well. And after that you smiled and said Yaa.. I know you both are soul sisters..!!
That day you were right.. But half right only..
Maya and I..
Well... even Maya doesnt know this but indeed Maya and I.. we are sisters..
My love, care, concern and possessiveness for Maya was not because I'm big hearted .. or Im a saint of a person or someone whos selfless..
The truth is that I am a very selfish person. The only reason that I care for Maya and Bunny so much is that they are indeed my family.
All of this started when I was small. My parents were on their way to India with me to see Mri Maa (Mayas mother). But before we could get to the airport, a truck collided with our car leading to my parents getting badly injured in the process. My parents didnt make it through but I did because my mother succeeded in protecting me during that accident. "
" I was the only who knew that Gracy had survived the accident because I was there when it happened. Gracy is my sister Amelias daughter.! and Gracys father RD – Rajdeep Singh happens Mayas mothers elder brother.
At that time I was on the wrong path and had taken a lot of wrong decisions under Jennifers influence, Amelia and RD who knew Jennifers truth tried to warn me multiple times but I never cared as I was angry that Mayas mother had rejected and left me. Soon Amelia and RD decided to leave everything here and move to India near to Maya and her mother. But when Jennifer learnt about that, she was worried that by doing this Amelia and RD would try to get me and Mayas mother back together hence she planned to kill my sister, RD and Gracy as well to make sure that they never reach India.
Jennifer is the one behind the car accident that killed Gracys parents and almost killed Gracy as well. By the time I learnt about Jennifers plan and rushed to save my sister, it was already very late and the only one whom I managed to save was Gracy.
After losing my sister I started realizing my mistake, but the damage was already done. I was scared for Gracys safety, thats why I faked and made Jennifer believe she succeeded in killing Amelia, RD and Gracy as well. And after that I sent Gracy away from me and here and hired all the necessary domestic help for her to grow up well. "
Mike added as he remembered the past and the mistakes he made as well.
Then Gracy continued;
" Growing up I felt very alone, abandoned and without a family, Dada used to come visit twice in a year but for me it was not enough. He used to bring me a lot of gifts but still he would leave my mind filled with even more doubts and questions. At that time all I knew was that he was my uncle, mothers brother but I knew nothing about my parents, Maya or anything and these unanswered questions starting troubling me so much that it led to turn towards alcohol.
When Dada found about my addiction to alcohol, it was also the time that Jennifer fell pregnant and Mri Maa also had contacted him to inform him about her tumor. And then before going to India he came to see me and he told me the truth about my parents, why he had kept me hidden from the world and also about Mri Maa and Maya. He knew that Mri Maa would not be able to survive much long because of the tumor and then hell have to bring Maya back here.
At that time, he told me that he had the opportunity to get both me and Maya back in his life to be near him and to become each others support and family that he was not able to give both of us. When Dada told me all that I knew what I wanted. After having spent so many years alone, I knew that I wanted to be with my sister always. So before going to India, Dada brought me back here, ensured that I get all the help to cope with my alcohol issues and also built a background story for me as Gracy Stanley so that Jennifer doesnt know that I'm still alive.
And then after few months, he returned with Maya after Mri Maas death and then arranged for me and Maya to meet through our courses and since then me and Maya are together.
Gracy Stanley is not my real name.. But it is Ginni Rajdeep Singh.. "
Gracy confessed her truth in front of the trio shocking them.
Hearing all what Gracy and Mike just said, their already worried state of mind got even more confused.
" You mean that you are actually Mayas sister..?? "
Wesley said in a questioning way to which Gracy replied nodding in a yes.
Then Roman added in the same tone as Wesley ;
" And your mother is Mikes sister while your father is Mayas mothers brother..??!! "
And this time Mike replied in same way as Gracy did.
" If Jennifer did so much to you.. To Maya.. And Gracy, then why didnt you get rid of her earlier..?? "
Nick shot the most important question at Mike.
Adding to that, Gracy also said;
" Yess Dada..
It's been more than 5 years now.. Why dont you tell me why Jennifer is still in our lives..?? Each time I've asked you about this, youve never answered my question clearly.. "
Hearing that Mike could feel his heart beats getting faster with each passing seconds, after all my past mistakes will never stop haunting me, he thought to himself. But still knowing that he could not avoid this question for much long he said;
" Jennifer has something very precious and important that I lost years ago due to my stupidity and greed, and till I dont get that back, I can't get rid of her.."
Before anyone could add anything to this, a nurse came out of the operation theater and said;
" The patient needs blood, if any.,.. "
Before the nurse could completely her sentence, both Mike and Gracy said;
" We share the same blood group..!! "
And with that both Mike and Gracy went along with the nurse. Just as they were out of view, Nicholass phone rang. Seeing that it is a call from the villa, Nicholas remembered that he had promised to make Maya call their son back but he never got the opportunity to do so. Nicholas knew that despite the ongoing situation, he was still very much responsible for the little one, hence he did pick the call and it was Emma at the other end who spoke;
" Sirr....
Sirr... "
The way Emma addressed Nicholas, was enough for him to know that there was something wrong, making him say;
" Does he know what happened with Maya..?"
After a pause, Emma replied with fear in her voice;
" He was watching cartoons on the TV and suddenly he changed the channel and saw the footage of a man and woman falling down from the building. And then they announced that it was you and Maya, Sir... and also showed another footage of you holding Maya and shouting on the people there to get out of your way.
Brian's been crying nonstop since then. We've tried a lot to reason with him, but he just won't listen to any of us. He wants to see you and Maya right now.. But without your permission, we cannot really take him out of the villa. "
As Emma says, that Nicholas knows that no matter what the little Brian is not going to calm down till he isn't near Maya or Gracy. Hence there was only one way out for him.
" I'll get someone to arrange for protection and then you can bring him to the hospital without anyone knowing..!!"
Nicholas said before cutting the call and turned towards Roman and Wesley to inform them about Brian.
HOURS LATER
THE HOSPITAL
THIRD PERSON POV
Its been hours now since Maya was taken inside that operation theatre and no one even moved from here. Even Nick refused to move from here to get his own wounds treated hence a nurse and doctor had come to check on him here only.
Gracy is not better than before as her anxiety is only getting worse. The one from they wanted to obviously hide this news from has also learnt it and there is the little Brian. Seating on Nicks legs hugging the latter as the poor child keeps shivering from fear for Maya. Mike was no better, he was very much blaming himself for everything that happened .
Finally the red light of the OT goes off indicating the end of their wait along Mayas surgery and the doctors come out of that room with a worried look on their face which intensifies the already tensed atmosphere.
" Doctorrrrr...."
Most of them say at the same time worried for Maya.
Knowing what theyre about to ask, the doctor himself says in a hesitating way;
" Hmm..
The operation was successful..!!
The patient is no longer in grave danger as earlier..!! "
" Then why do you so tensed if Maya is out of danger..?? "
Gracy questions the doctor without beating around the bush.
Playing with his fingers nervously, the doctor replies:
" Mam.. the operation was definitely successful..
Buttttt.
Butttt "
As the Doctor started fumbling with his second sentence, Nick shouted;
" Damn it Doctor just say it
Whats wrong with my wife..??"
" SHE SLIPPED IN COMA..!!!! "
The doctor blurted out the very next moment and as that news fell like a bomb on everyone there, for the upcoming few minutes, there was pindrop silence in that corridor. Knowing that the people present there were shocked, the doctor still had to explain and clarify few things about Mayas condition to them, hence he added;
" I'm sorry but this is true.. The patient has suffered a lot of internal and external injuries. And unfortunately till the time she was brought here, she had lost a lot of blood. Though the operation weve managed to save her but still shes not in a good position. She still has suffered a lot of fractures on her hands, legs and fingers as well. And due to the hard impact of being hit on her head and losing a lot of blood, she's in coma.
And when she will be out of coma.. Thats also not really predictable. It can be few hours, days, weeks, months or I'm afraid even years..!! In this type of situation, different patients tend to take different time periods to recover.
Now we can only pray that the patient wakes up as soon as possible...
We'll shift her soon and then you can see her but not everyone at the same time. "
The doctor said as fast as he could willing to get out of there as soon as possible knowing that he may get in trouble owing to the bad mood of Mayas family. And eventually the doctor literally ran away from them as soon as he finished talking.
And suddenly they hear a soft chuckle making all of them look at its source. After all they were in such a tensed situation which just got worse and someone had to bloody audacity to laugh.
All looked at Gracy who chuckles again in a nervous way and says;
" Oh my god...
I think my mind has started playing me tricks now after all what happened...
For a second I thought that the doctor said that Maya is in coma..!!! "
Gracy says lightly shaking her head in a no way as she rubs her forehead nervously as she moves back and bumps into Mike whos standing just behind her. She then looks at him and continues in a completely anxious manner as if shes about to lose the last bit of her troubled mind;
" Dada...!!!
How can that even be possible..??
I mean...
The doctor himself just said that our Maya is out of danger.
Then how can she be in coma..??
I I must have definitely misheard...
Right..??
Mayas fine, right..?? "
Gracy voiced out her confused thoughts while great hopes that Mike will say that indeed she was imagining things and had misheard what the doctor had said.
But knowing the reality, Mike just couldnt say anything but look at Gracy with an apologetic look in his eyes. However noticing that, Gracy was still unwilling to accept the harsh reality, hence she turned towards Nick and went to him;
" Nickk...
Nick, you jumped right after her to save her...
I saw it myself...
Then how can she...???
Maya's fine, right Nick..??"
Nick who by now knew that things were no longer in control and that Maya had fallen in that cursed deep sleep commonly known as coma, had no way to console Gracy hence he stood in his place looking at Gracy with no hope in his eyes.
As if understanding that she had not misheard the doctor and starting to feel dejected about the whole situation, Gracy just looked at them in disbelief as she took some steps back while repeating a single sentence to herself;
" Aisa kaise ho sakta hai.??
(How can this be possible.?) "
And as the boys watched Gracy retreat her steps and then again fall down on the ground losing her consciousness once again as they ran to hold her.
THE NEXT DAY
THE HOSPITAL
MAYAS WARD
NICHOLAS POV
Just when I thought that things had started going right, all of this happened. My wife is coma, my sister-in-law is still unconscious from shock, my son has cried himself to sleep after he understood that his mommy was not very well. And my father-in-law Mike, for the first time ever I've seen fear in his eyes. There are so many things that I want to ask him about my wife, Gracy and even their past but doing that right just seems to be a bad idea as very clearly hes no better than any of us right now.
Wesley who had gone to get Bunny here the previous day had also managed to get the time to check upon the news being circulated about the hotel fiasco. And the fact that I had accepted that Maya is my wife had already spread like fire all over the entire country. And for once I was not very happy about that. The only reason why I had not revealed Mayas position as my wife was that before the marriage, I had promised Mike that I would reveal Maya to the world as being Mrs. Nicholas Valentino may become a threat to her life. At first I thought that Mike was being ridiculous by putting forward such a condition but I never minded it as it didnt really affected me at that time. But today after seeing what Raven did after knowing that Maya is my wife became very clear to me about what threats Mike was referring to.
Right now, only Roman, my son and me are here in the room with Maya while Wesley and Mike are with Gracy in the room just on the side. Since the operation went on for hours and hours by the time, the operation ended and Maya was transferred to her private deluxe ward it was almost dawn. After having spent the entire previous day and night in a completely agonized way, most of us were completely worn out, which is why despite trying hard to stay awake, Wesley still fell asleep as he sat on the sofa next to the one, I had laid my sleeping Bunny on.
Looking away from them, I finally lay my eyes again on my wife,
its been hours now ever since I've looking and analyzing her sick weak body, and each time I look at her, I see the tiniest details of each of her wounds, bruises and scars even more . Her beautiful angelic face was nowhere to be found, from the impact of the bruises on her face, it is very clear to me that she has been hit multiple times on the face, maybe slaps, punches or even with something. Her delicate and soft hands had multiple cuts and injuries. There was a plaster on her right hand which indicated that hand was fractured and her left hands fingers were also not a in good shape. According to my personal experience from the hell I lived because of my father, I would say that her finger had been broken whilst struggling with them. Making things even worse, both of my wifes legs were plastered because they were many broken and fractured bones. The doctor also told us that the reason behind this is mainly because Maya had been repeated assaulted on her legs for a long time.
And that makes my blood boil even more as it makes me think about all the torture my poor wife had to undergo before I arrived there. But I know one thing very well that Raven and his entire gang who enjoyed torturing my wife will not be spared at all. The rescue team who along with Roman to the hotel managed to reach the last floor where Maya and I was just seconds before Raven threw Maya down. He may had managed to attack my wife at the time but unfortunately for him, my team succeeded in capturing him and his gang and taking them in captive. My team took them to our den where they are still been held hostage are being taught a lesson for their doings, off course I've given very clear instructions to my men to only torture and not kill them as I want to do that myself. I will make sure that those men suffer hundred times more than they made my wife go through.
But what amazed me in this situation is when I realized that despite having undergone so much by Raven, my wife still managed to survive all this. It made me realize that indeed my wife is a very strong woman. I always thought that life has been hard.. Very hard on me which is what has made me become a strong man.. But now when I think of all the things that my wife to undergo ever since she was a child, Ive do know one thing for sure and that is that my wife is much stronger than me and than what I thought she is.
Taking few steps away from the window, I go near my wife and look at her along with all thought tubes connected to different parts of her body. I see her tired weak face and touch her wired hand as softly as I can with the fear that even touching her might hurt her.
Before I can know, I've already dropped a little down and my mouth is near her ears and I say;
" You promised to go with me where I wanted to take you to..
You promised me that you will always be with me whether I want or not.
You promised me that you will haunt me forever Maya..
You promised that no matter what I'll be stuck with you Maya..
You promised me to give us a chance if I try to change myself Maya..
You cannot break your promise Maya..
Please dont break your promise Maya..
I dont really know how much time its gonna take you to wake up, but I do know is that no matter how much time it takes, I will be here when you wake up..
I will not give up on you pumpkin.
I will not give up on us pumpkin.
I don't care much time it take, but I won't give up..
No matter how much time it takes. "
I say softly in her eyes and after finishing I raise my head a little and plant a gentle kiss on her forehead. Despite my bad behavior and misunderstandings in the past, Maya never gave up on me, she stood strong in front of me and talked fearlessly not caring about the consequences which is why today I know that I have to try to become a better man, the one my Mama wanted me to be. The one whom I want to be for my wife and our son. The journey was never an easy one but Maya had always been there for me and today its my turn to do the same for her.
Suddenly I hear Bunnys voice making me look at him;
" Daddy...!!"
I walk near him and pick him up, after finally waking up, his eyes are red due to having cried a lot. But his eyes are not even looking at me but at Maya. Knowing that I can't really hide the truth from him much longer, I say;
" The doctor said that after all what happened, mommy is very very tired after all what happened to her. And so that your wounds do not hurt very much, they have given her medicines so that she can sleep without feeling any pain.
Bunny..
Mommy may be sleeping for a very long time, so we need to be very patient and wait for her to wake up..!! "
I say hoping that Bunny will understand me and not cry again which is still not very good for him as he still needs to be taken care of because of his previous leg surgery.
But Bunny just stayed quiet with his eyes glued on Maya for a long time and after a while he looked at me with small tears again starting to form in his eyes as he spoke with innocence;
" Daddy..
Did the doctor really tell true..???
Is mommy really in coma..?? "
Did he hear what the doctor said .??
Does Bunny really understand what does coma means??
Is my son actually this sharp and intelligent..?
Was what I could think of after hearing Bunnys world.
" How do you know what coma is..?? "
I questioned him.
" I saw a scene in a movie..
The hero had an accident and then the doctor said that he was in coma.
And the hero never woke up again..!!!
Will mommy also...... "
I look at my baby say as his tears start falling down again and I feel him starting to tremble and before he can finish his last sentence, I cut him as I state;
" But mommy will wake up...
She promised me that no matter what she will not leave me nor let me leave her..!!
And you know how stubborn your mommy is..!!
Once she decides something, shell do it no matter what..!!!
But this time things are not really in our favour, so we need to be even more careful and patient.
Trust me Baby, Mommy will wake...
I know that she will fight back and wake up..
And the day she wakes up, well both have to be here...with her...!!! "
I try my best to explain Bunny that under no circumstance, we are allowed to give up.
" Yess Daddy..
You are right..
We will wait for Mommy to wake up...
We will both be here when Mommy wakes up..!! "
Bunny says getting my point as he hugs me by my neck as tight as he can with his small hands.
However still not feeling good about myself, I say;
" Daddy is sorry Bunny..
I couldnt keep my promise.
I couldnt protect your mommy.
I was not there when she needed me.
All of this is Daddy's fault as well."
I confessed as I hugged him back.
" No Daddy....
I dont think it is your fault this time..
I know that there were bad uncles there who tried to hurt Mommy, Wes told me that.
And Bunny also saw on the TV how you jumped from soo high after Mommy fell and how you tried your best to catch her and save her...
Just like I always say, you are Mommys and my superhero Daddy...
I still love you very much..!!! "
Hearing my sons words brought a small wave of relief to me.
Why.?
I dont know that, but hearing those words from him seemed to be the only good thing that ever happened in the past 24 hours.
I couldnt help but say it back;
" Daddy loves you too Baby..!!"
