So here's your quick update and after this is my lonnnngggg break.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rohit POV
Rohit: but what if I told you... (his voice softer now) that I am Siddharth.
—But it's the truth, and a heavy weight seems to elevate and I feel somewhat lighter. Relief washing over me.
I can't exactly read her expression. Something lingering between confusion and emptiness.
Her eyes just gazing into mine as if yet not believing that I just said that.
Then her unreadable confused look suddenly softens and her lips twitch into a smile, then soon frets of laughter. Loads and loads of tiny giggles.—
Avu: (though hysterical laughing) Y-you? Siddharth!?
Rohit: (his face clearly portraying pure confusion) what's so funny?
Avu: (suddenly stops laughing and now her eyes showing pure anger as she shoots Rohit a VERY angry glare) no.
—I simply watch as she picks up Sana and walks straight past me, out of them gym.
No.
What's that even supposed to mean?!
A very unknown and awkward feeling of utter rejection sweeping through me.
Did she just practically tell me that my name is not what it is?—
~~~
(Gang meeting with everyone gathered up at the table, an excited buzz filling the air as a VERY unexcited Rohit walks in)
Ashi: Sooo! What'd she say?
Rohit: "no."(silence falling everywhere as everyone waits for him to continue)
Ashi: and...
Rohit: and nothing. She did not believe it one bit.
Ashi: (batting her eyelashes) so... now what?
Adnaan: so now we'll have to prove to her that you're Siddharth.
Raghav: I'm still lost.
Hasnain: he means that we're gonna have to make Avu realize and accept on her own. Without directly telling her.
Rohit: (Enlightened) Guys, I think I know what to do. And... I have a plan.
~~~
Avu POV
Avu: (to Sana) What the hell does he think of himself! He can just say something like that and play with my emotions!
Sana: (nodding) Meow!
Avu: (gasping) are you taking his side!
Sana: (continues to nod) meow!
Avu: (gasping even more dramatically) BAD CAT! I will disown you! How dare you take the side of the enemy!
(Avu bumps into someone subconsciously)
Avu: I'm sorr-
Riyaz: it's alright Avu.
Avu: Riyaz, hi!
Riyaz: hey... so how's life?
Avu: recently ruined by a very particular person.
Riyaz: hmm... I'll make up for it. Wanna go for a walk?
Avu: (taken annoy by shock) what?
Riyaz: Just talk together, like the old times.
Avu: (hesitating a bit) Alright. I'll get changed.
Riyaz: (nodding) I'll meet you at the entrance in five minutes.
Avu: (nodding and shooting him a smile as she runs off with Sana)
(Avu, walking into her room smiling)
Jaan: (shirking) SOO. What good news has my heroin brought today??
Avu: Bruh... I don't know why you're excited... but we have five minutes to talk.
(Avu takes a minute to change her clothes as she puts on a white loose shirt and skinny jeans along with newd heels and Jaan excitedly sitting down, facing Avu)
Avu: um... y'know how you said I should move on and keep living.
Jaan: (all too excited) yeah!
Avu: give love a second chance and all that...
Jaan: yeah!
Avu: so... I think I'm gonna give myself a second chance today.
Jaan: YASSSS girl! You go get him!
Avu: well... thanks for being so encouraging. I guess. I didn't really expect you to be so happy about my date with Riyaz.
Jaan: (falling completely silent) Riyaz?!
Avu: yeah! (Sarcastically) Who else, Rohit?!
Jaan. Yes!
Avu: wha?
Jaan: I mean no. Of course not.
Avu: so... I'll be off, on my date. I'll be back to tell you how it went! (And with that she walks off leaving a rather shocked Jaan behind)
—Jannat is one of the weirdest best friends I've ever had. First she's super excited and happy about Riyaz. Then she's disgusted?!
I wait intimately for the day I finally understand her.
I start making myself down the corridor to the elevator only to bump into yet another person, only for them to drop all their files.—
Avu: oh gosh I'm so sorry! (Looking up at who it is)
Rohit: (sighing) ohh... it's alright Avneet. (Avu picking up all the papers and handing it to Rohit)
Rohit: where're you headed off to in such a hurry anyway?
Avu: just meeting up with someone.
Rohit: who?
—"What if I told you, I am Siddharth."
The words ringing over and over again.
What does he think of himself!—
Avu: that's none of your business.
Look Rohit, I don't mean to be rude or anything... but on a personal lever you're no one to me. Just my boss. So please stay out of my life.
—The moment the words escape my mouth I regret it. Huge amount of guilt surfing through every part of me as I suddenly feel like curling up into a ball and sobbing it all out.
How could you say such a thing to him Avu! He's the nicest and kindest boss you've ever had.
He's your friend.
I watch helplessly as he simply nods and walks off.
Perhaps I would've been happier if he'd shouted at me and threatened to fire me or something.
But he didn't, which makes me feel even guiltier.
I step into the elevator as the doors shut in front of me.
Why the hell did I do that.
Who knows what Rohit might be thinking of me. He probably was rather offended.
I should apologize to him, and I will. As soon as I'm done with this date.
My hands find itself to the gold chain that dangles off my neck. The one Siddharth had given me, my fingers tracing his name.
Just one date.
I walk up to the entrance where a red haired boy is already waiting for me.—
Avu: hey!
Riyaz: soo... I found this AMAZING restaurant few stops away and after that I have our entire day planned out.
Avu: great! Let's go!
—We hop onto the bus as Riyaz and I sit on seats next to each other and I take the window seat.
I stare out the window at the passing building. Loads and loads of them.
We stop at a signal and a huge billboard is hung advertising The Bon Bros Records, first movie, 'Complex Love'.
Guilt immediately surges over me as I recall what I'd said to Rohit earlier. But Riyaz's voice cuts through my thoughts.—
Riyaz: Avu? Avu!
Avu: (coming back to reality) Yea, sorry, just zoned out.
Riyaz: Next stop's ours. Let's go.
~~~
—we plop down on two seats of a rather fancy restaurant, the sea visible from the window.
Riyaz stares into the distance, his red hair shining in the sun. To be honest, he's not the ugliest person I know.—
Riyaz: You remember that time we went to Goa? Right after college.
Avu: yeah. It was amazing.
—I watch as he reaches into his pocket and takes something out.
A shell.
The shell.
We were strolling across the beach one blissful afternoon when it'd caught my attention and I'd picked it up from the sandy soil, giving it to him.
I said that we'd make sure that moment would last. I said we'd be together. Forever.
"Avu: So tell me Siddharth. You won't leave me and go away will you?
Sid: (shocked by her question) (smiling weekly) I won't."
I guess people lie more often then I though they did.—
Avu: you still have it.
Riyaz: (nodding) yeah. It's kind of like a sign of hope to me. As if one day... maybe someday. We'd be together again.
Forgive and forget.
Avu: (just nodding at him)
Riyaz: y'know Avu, I never really hated you. I was just a little mad at everything, and I took rash decisions in my anger.
—The waiter comes by and he finally stops talking to pat head to the waiter.
I know where Riyaz is going with this, but I don't know whether I'm ready.
Jaan says 'Give love a second chance'.
I am after all, 28. I have to least try a relationship.
YOLO right.
I'll do it on one condition, that we'll stay in Mumbai, and he has to let me visit Sid's grave everyday.—
Waiter: And you ma'am.
Avu: I would like a genovege pasta with melon soda please.
Waiter: alright.
(Walks off)
Riyaz: soo... Like I was saying, we should give each other a second chance. Give 'us' a second chance.
Avu: so you're asking me to be your girlfriend.
Riyaz: (shrugging) technically.
Avu: (smirking) I'll think about it.
(The food arrives and Avu starts munching on her pasta, not even waiting for Riyaz's food to arrive)
Riyaz: What happened to your etiquettes over the years!?
Avu: (her mouth stuffed with pasta) I'm only following Faisu's training on how to stay fit!
Riyaz: Faisu told you to eat like that!
Avu: yes!
(The waiter comes to give Riyaz's order and just stares at Avu slurping the entire melon sofa down.
Eventually Riyaz shoo's the waiter away)
~~~
*sunset as they sit at a cafe near a park and gaze at a bridge which stretches across a river*
Riyaz: (sipping on his cafè latte) what've you been doing all these years? Last I heard of you was at the Grazia magazine release... what happened After?
Avu: nothing much really... just worked for various magazines and loads of different companies...
what about you?
Riyaz: I started working for the Bon Bros Records three years ago... before that I just did random interviews and song videos...
—I gaze into the pink skies as the sun sets.—
Riyaz: wanna walk up the bridge?
Avu: (nodding then smiling) let's go.
(Both of them start walking up the bridge)
—The bridge has a nice curve leading down to the other side, the still, slow-flowing waters of the river shining as the setting sun hits it.
It's beautiful.—
Riyaz: hey... I got you something... I thought it'd go really well with your eyes.
Avu: what?
Riyaz: (taking a small box out of his bag and opening it o reveal a silver pendent with a diamond shell hanging off it)
Avu: it's beautiful.
Riyaz: would you like to put it on?
Avu: (touching the necklace as her fingers trace down his name) I'm already wearing one...
Riyaz: It's alright, I'll help you put it on.
Avu: (not wanting to take the gold piece off her neck but eventually agreeing to put the silver pendent on, just for a while until she puts the gold one back)
Avu: alright.
Riyaz: (unbuckling the gold one and putting the silver one on her as he takes a look at her name)
Riyaz: This gold one's great too, but it doesn't quite compete with diamond.(winking)
Avu: (staring into the distance as the sun sets) its very precious to me as it is.
Riyaz: why?
Avu: It was given to me by someone very special.
Riyaz: (turning it over as he reads the name embedded in the gold, which shines in the faint moonlight)
Riyaz: Siddharth? Who's he?
Avu: someone I knew.
Riyaz: wait... is he the same Siddharth Nigam? The one involved in the Mr. Kaur murder case.
Avu: he's not a murderer.
Riyaz: Yeh. I heard that he was under a false allegation. But he took his own life foolishly didn't he.
Avu: (getting mad) Don't speak of him like that.
Riyaz: (taking a deep breath and handing the necklace back to her with a all-too-sweet smile)
Riyaz: why're you so protective of him?
Avu: (grasping the necklace protectively) I... loved him.
Riyaz: oh. (Rather annoyed)
(After a few awkward moments of silence)
Riyaz: are you willing to give 'us' another chance?
Avu: (nodding slowly) under few conditions.
Riyaz: (smiling) go on.
Avu: we gotta stay in Mumbai. (Riyaz nodding in agreement)
And... (taking a deep breath) You'll let me visit Siddharth's grave everyday.
Riyaz: (cooler then she thought he would be, taking the gold necklace from her hands and looking at Siddharth embedded on the gold)
Riyaz: look Avu, if you want to give us another chance, give a real relationship a chance. (Holding the gold necklace at the tip of his fingers by the clasp as he reaches his hands off the bridge)
You have to forget him.
(Lets the gold necklace slip from his hands as ur falls off the bridge, Avu watching helplessly as if yet not believing what he jus did.
Her eyes widen and realization seems to hit her hard as she watches the necklace fall into the water, with a tiny splash)
