It was a normal windy day in a port village of Goa Kingdom ; it was actually concern worthy when barely any wind was to be noted in Foosha Village.
This typical rural community, with rustic wooden houses, docks and a few windmills was full of life and overflowing with brat. Without forgetting the bandits installed in Mt. Colubo. The presence of those notable outlaws caused some occasional chaos in the area.
You were a mysterious and weird child. Never speaking to people, always observing from afar.
Your parents were bandits, criminals so you always had to keep a distance; to protect yourself, yes but them most of all. You couldn't care how sick you were, how fragile your bones and body were, but you knew just how much more they were affected by it than you. You never knew what it was like to live like a normal child, without the possibility of falling abruptly life-threatening ill anytime because of some innocent thing you may have encountered. You were dealing with it. They were constantly suffering as if that would spare you from your pain.
You spent most of your days walking on the beach and gazing at the sea, curious about the "Lord of the Coast". You always had a strong interest in such threatening and "ugly" creatures but you couldn't explain it; you were just attracted by them even after what happened to that man.
You liked it when things were silent and calm, you like to escape in your own little world. It was so rare you could do such things without your parents supervising you h24.
"OIIIIIIIIII (Y/N)!"
Guess that moment won't last long. You heard the sound of plastic stretching. Alarmed you jumped on your legs and turned around to discover none other than the reckless Monkey D. Luffy, his arms stretched and all. NOT AGAIN!
"LUFFY DON'T!!!!!" Was the only attempt of stopping the youngest in his stupidity Ace had time to do as one second after he flew to bump into you, making both of you fall over and crash in the sand.
You were knocked out, seeing blurry.
"Luffy, you unconscious moron!", screamed Sabo.
"(y/n)!? (y/n)!? Are you ok!?"
"Huh? If I...want to...play hockey?"
"Woah! Luffy seriously knocked her off, " testified Ace actually appearing a bit impressed.
"We're screwed!" shout Sabo. "Oh, we're so screwed! I can already see her parents burning us alive!"
"They won't burn us alive Sabo! Get a grip and help me carry her back home!"
"Carry her? Oh yes!"
Sabo and Ace both lifted you up one on each side to carry you back at the mountain.
Once you were back "home" the three boys tensed up. "What are we going to tell everyone?" asked Sabo. "The truth. They won't buy anything else, " responded Ace.
Luffy grumbled. "Dadan's going to get mad at me again!"
"Assume yourself Luffy!" declared Ace.
And so he did.
"I may have made her fall over, " declared Luffy.
"YOU WHAT!?" Your father was losing it. That was it. Why are they always making a scene every time even a small breeze hit me? You knew your time was counted, that you were exposed to dangers but still; that wasn't their fault.
"LUFFY SHUT IT!" The poor kid received a punch from the two older boys. "Boys, that's enough", shout your mother as she tried to split up the three so-called "brats of the mountains". She never managed to actually split them up no matter how many times she tried in the years, it was useless over and over again but you couldn't help but admire the young boy's stubbornness and smile at your mother's blindness.
"You never learn do you?"
"Dadan, it was Luffy's fault and-" The Mountain Bandits Boss didn't want to hear it. "You're too hyperactive Luffy, she can't keep up with you, get that in your little head!"
"Dadan, " you spoke up, "it's alright. I'm not that hurt."
"You were lucky!"
"Don't worry, I will always look over Luffy!" You declared a teasing smile on your face.
"As if I need you to supervise me!" You giggled at his annoyed face that only reinforced his eternal babyface as the two other boys laughed. "You can't go anywhere without being looked over you, idiot!"
"PFFFFT!"
Always was the word you chose. But you were sick. So sick.

Months later

The weather of the last months was harsh and rude; it didn't let you unaffected. Fragile bones, less skin protecting you as yours was less thick than for a normal person and almost no immunity system, you were doomed. It was a question of days, perhaps hours.
While Sabo and Luffy both decided to stay outside the room with some other bandits, both too much unstable to come closer, Ace decided to walk in to greet you for the ultimate time along with most other bandits alongside your parents and Dadan.
"I'm happy you know?"
"Huh?"
"I had a fun life. I had friends, family and I were cared for, we never lacked food or anything essential. I didn't lack anything. I'm very thankful for that. That's why I'm happy."
"Oh, my baby, " your mother started before falling into unstoppable tears. You couldn't look at your parents, not after everything they went through for you so you looked away and looked at Ace.
Love can take many shapes and forms but yours was the deepest and truthful there was; sincere trust.
"We will always be friends, count on that!"
You smiled at his words, not even having enough strength to say something.
Let's meet on the other side, shall we?
That was when you met your end.
"(y/n)? (y/n)?"
"My baby...!"
"(Y/N)!!!"

Around a decade later

Death was art, a painful one.
So cold, a candle burning you couldn't feel it. But why was your heart aching each time you saw him going through a hard time? Your devil fruit was...wicked. The grim reaper fruit...Or maybe was it a gift? A way for you to keep your promise?
You kept watching over him until the very end, until the capture, the prison, the death penalty, everything that brought all these people to this carnage you were watching from afar.
Fire, screams, blood, tears; it was a physical mark of humans' love and hate.
Each time you looked at Ace a bad feeling invaded you. There seems to be no way out for him. What you feared happened and no matter how loud your cries and screams were, they were impossible to hear. "Oh no..." you cried.
You stayed like that, suffocating due to how much you cried. Minutes passed by until you calmed down, still sniffling.
"We will always be friends, count on that!"
You had a role to play. You'd prefer to do it yourself. I see we will finally meet again...A bit early, sadly. On that thought, you flew to collect his soul so you could be friends once again. Fire Fist Ace's life reached its end.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
I said fantastic as it's not everyone's belief that Death itself within a shape and form do exist. I am not religious myself. That's why I chose to mention Fantastic to respect everyone's beliefs. And slightly as...for the fact that One Piece universe is already quite fantastic itself. I know Grim Reapers exist in the OP universe even if they're officially referred to as "Assassins" but as it's Ace we're talking about and the OP fandom is to this day, still unable to get over his death, I thought that it would be a cool way to put things.
That and I decided to go for a more cute friendship relationship than a romantic one as most of the time. I tried something new...
So yeah! I hope you liked it!
Damn I'm slow to update!😬
