Evelyn's POV
"Earth to Evelyn!"
What are you thinking about? Emily says as she tries to get my attention.
Sorry I just got a little distracted.
"Are you sure nothing is wrong?"
Nothing, I'm fine. I said faking confidence.
"Okay I will leave you then and go back to my desk, I have some work to complete." She said and left.
I was about to start returning emails when the desk phone rang.
"Be right there, " I answered and hung up
Hayden and I have not spoken, well, since that incident, you know, the one that I slammed the door on his face. Well yeah. I have been ignoring his calls and avoiding him altogether. Now he is calling me on the office phone, some work for me, maybe.
I am so nervous right now. I don't know how to face him. I mean we kinda kissed before things escalated.
My heart still skips a beat at the thought and I'm not even sure I could look him straight in the eye without feeling anything.
I adjusted my skirt so that there weren't any indecent exposure, I wouldn't want Clark, thinking I want to seduce her crush.
I hesitated a bit before opening the door to calm myself.
Breathe in breathe out
When I opened the door after knocking, Hayden's back was to me.
"You called me sir," I said knowing he hated the word.
"Yeah, could you help me get something at that desk. It's a file with a capital F on it."
Oh okay, I replied. annoyed that he was only calling me for petty tasks.
Talk about being arrogant and a jerk my subconscious added
Hayden moved from his seat, heading for the door, I didn't pay attention to what he was doing until I heard the door locked.
"Now we can talk, Hayden concluded.
Evelyn, look at me, I want to talk, why have you been avoiding me, been ignoring my calls."
He said with pain in his eyes like the word itself was hurting him.
Since when did Hayden become this soft?
Talk about being unpredictable.
Nothing, I answered looking down, afraid of what I might do if I look him in the eyes.
Evelyn, look at me, he lifted my chin so that my eyes were staring straight at him. While we locked eyes for what seems like forever which was actually a second. Something changed in Hayden and he suddenly pushed me to the wall, arching his head so that our mouths were only inches from each other.
You don't know what it feels like to be worried about someone Evelyn, you don't what it feels like to have....
Before he could complete his sentence, he forced his mouth into mine and started kissing me with all the most intense emotions I have ever felt in a single kiss.
It was like he was punishing me and making love to my mouth at the same time. He wanted me to feel what he is feeling, every single emotion and I felt it until he stopped.
"I think we are even now, " he said and slowly backed away.
Wha, what? I was suddenly short of words
You jerk! I screamed
How can you be so mean?
I was already in his face. Hitting him on the chest, you are a jerk, a complete jerk.
Do you think I am a plaything? Someone you can just kiss and leave
"Says the one who started this"
Hayden rolled his eyes and pretend to be interested in what he suddenly found on a file
You know what? if you are going to continue treating me this way, I quit
I'm no longer interested in this job
You can go choke on your bullshit, I screamed before heading to the door
What do you think you are doing?
Did you forget you signed a two years agreement contract with the company?
I could sue you for breach of contract.
After hearing that, whatever hope I had of leaving the company shattered.
How could you forget such a silly thing, Evelyn? My subconscious nagged
Even if I wanted to quit, I already took an advance payment to pay my landlord, so there is no way in hell I'm getting out of here.
"You made your point, Hayden"
Now leave me the hell alone
I slammed the door again forgetting this was the office.
Emily was looking at me weirdly when I got out of the office and the silly me actually smiled at her until I got to my desk and saw my disheveled hair and smudged lipstick.
Way to go, Evelyn,
Now everybody in the office thinks you are screwing the boss. Really way to go.
I spent the remaining work hours, replying to emails, and counting down.
I just wanna get out of here. I need a headspace

Are you heading back home?
Griffin, a guy from the office asked me.
Well yes. I was about to board a cab.
There wouldn't be a need for that. Mind if I drop you home? He asked smiling
I wouldn't wanna bother you, I will just get a cab
I insist, please don't say no
Okay okay, griffin. We better get going then.
The car ride was a lonely ride, Griffin and I aren't exactly friends, there was really nothing to talk about but he kept glancing at me at intervals.
So I decided to start a conversation with him
Since when have you been working at the delarios? I asked.
"4 years ago, when I just completed my degree in international studies. The delarios were looking for an HR and I applied for the job, turns out I was a good fit."
Well, good for you then.
"What about you Evelyn?"
Rumors had it that you and Mr. Smith don't exactly get along. Rumors also had it that.
Stop! That is my house right there.
Griffin stopped the car and got down to open the car door for me. What a sweet man, my subconscious teased.
Thanks for the car ride.
I really appreciate it. I would take my leave now. I stated.
Wait, Evelyn. Griffin shouted as he runs towards me.
"Sorry, you forgot something" Your Wallet.
Oh wow, thank you so much. I collected the wallet and walked away
I have not gone back to my house since that incident of Mark. Neither did I hear anything from Mark. I can't tell you how much this is scaring me but you know I have to put on that confident look for people around me if I don't want them to find out.
As I started to climb the stairs towards the house, I saw Ciara with folded arms smiling at me. Knowing my best friend, I know I'm just about to go through a 15 minutes Q/A with her.
Lol. What a day!
