"Y/N!"
"Y/N! Are you alright?"
"Y/N, hey, can you hear me? You're gonna be fine. We caught them before they could do anything worse to you so you're gonna be okay. Hey. You hearing me?"
You tried sorting out the sources of all the muffled voices around you but couldn't seem to put a finger on where exactly they came from, and when you opened your eyes all you could see were blurs of moving grey and black in various shades that just blended together into one general picture. Were the drops of dark liquid across the floor of the hangar bay your blood? You could hardly tell. You really hoped it wasn't your blood. The sight of blood made you want to faint.
"I'm fine," you tried to stand, but black spots dotted your vision and started wavering on your feet, swaying back and forth as you struggled to maintain balance. "I'll make it back in on my own."
"I'll take her inside," another deep voice offered.
Right as you realized that the man speaking was Steve, he'd already swooped you up into his strong arms. Your head tipped back against the crook of his neck and you could smell his cologne with the slightest hint of sweat, and you looked up into piercing, icy-blue eyes.
Well, now you knew you could at least start seeing color again after that dumb agent knocked you out with whatever the hell he used.
"Steve," you murmured half-consciously, reaching a hand up to lightly brush it against his cheek before it dropped limply down by your side. "You came to save me. Blood...there was blood everywhere...bleeding...and then...I didn't see anything anymore...I don't know..."
"Thank goodness you're alive. But we need to hurry and get you back inside to treat your wounds," he breathed out, shifting your weight and picking up his pace, walking so fast that the motion began to slowly rock you to sleep. He tried not to gag at the sight of the crimson-red liquid, your blood coming from the bullet-shaped hole in your side that was beginning to drip down his hands.
"What happened?" Peter questioned. "I got hit and almost passed out back there, but...I didn't black out completely like she did...so what's the deal here?"
"Hallucinogen," Bruce answered quickly as he tapped his screen that he was holding in his hands and swiped to the right, showing it to the team as they began walking towards the entrance to the compound. "Some sort of drug embedded in the bullet. She's been poisoned. I'll have to run a few tests to figure out exactly what it is, though. I don't think I've seen anything like this in a while."
"Why would they just drug her? They've never sprung that tactic up on any of us before in the past," Bucky looked confused. "They usually just try and kill us. They didn't do that to me, either."
"Because they thought by slowing her down it'd slow all of us down," Sam realized what was going on, "they were probably thinking it'd be easier to deal with us when there was one less. New strategy, I'm assuming? I don't know, honestly."
"You guys can all come with me if you're not going to watch over Y/N, since Cap and Wanda'll take care of her," the scientist beckoned the others to follow him up to his lab. "I made an antidote in the case that something like this happened, but I'll need help on finding it."

As Bruce and the others searched for the antidote to the drug that had poisoned you through your bloodstream, Wanda started treating your wound in the medical wing. It seemed that no matter how fast she worked, the blood kept pouring out at an alarmingly rapid rate, soaking the bandages they attempted to secure around your torso within minutes.
"Cap, we have a problem here," she spoke rapidly, "Y/N's burning up and she's losing a lot of blood. My powers can't hold it back for much longer. Get me a cold towel, please? And call Dr. Cho. I was able to remove the bullet but we'll need professional treatment to deal with the rest."
"Yeah, you got it," he nodded breathlessly, grabbing a towel and soaking it in icy-cold water that made his fingers go numb, folding it and carefully placing it atop your forehead before grabbing the phone, dialing with trembling fingers.
"Captain. Is something the matter?"
"Y/N's been poisoned. We have the antidote but she's losing a lot of blood, we need you over ASAP."
"Got it. Be there in 5."
"She's on her way," he turned to the young woman after getting off the phone. "How's Y/N?"
"Fever's going down," Wanda replied, "but now it's a matter of how badly the poison affected her. We can get it out in time, but Helen needs to get here fast if we want that to happen..."
"5 minutes."
"I guess that'll be okay," she nodded and finished wrapping the bandages around your torso. "Thanks, Cap."
"No problem."
The sudden whirring of a SHIELD medical helicarrier was heard in the distance and within two minutes, footsteps sounded down the hallways and Helen and two other assistants burst through the doors. "Where's she?"
Wanda motioned over where you lay and the doctors quickly loaded you onto a stretcher before carrying you away to the operating room. The two of them went outside to the waiting area and as they sat down, Steve let out a long, shaky sigh and put his head in his hands.
"You okay, Cap?"
The super-soldier blinked a few times and shook his head. "Oh. Yeah, I'm fine, Wanda. Don't worry about me."
"She's going to be okay, if that is what you're so concerned about," she reassured him upon seeing the tears pooling in the corners of his eyes. "Don't worry too much. You're only stressing yourself out."
"They've formulated a new kind of drug," Bruce explained as he pulled up the results of the various tests he ran on the poisonous compound to show to the others, "a hallucinogen that makes a person slowly lose their sense of reality while sucking the life out of them."
"Brutal," Bucky sucked in a breath. "Doesn't sound pleasant at all."
"She'll be okay, right?" Natasha questioned.
"Yeah, she'll be fine," Bruce replied, "Wanda said they were lucky enough to get SHIELD's medical team over in time. She removed the bullet and they should be operating on her right now."
A chorus of relieved sighs echoed throughout the lab.
"I hope the mighty Captain isn't killing himself over Lady Y/N," Thor spoke up, breaking the newly formed awkward silence that had settled in between all of them. "He has been sleep deprived and has not eaten in two days as he is too preoccupied with worrying about her well-being."
"Well," Rhodey sighed and crossed his arms over his chest, "you're out of luck, then. He's blinded by how hopelessly in love with her he is."
"A friendly reminder that you owe me twenty," Vision held out a hand to Wanda and she rolled her eyes, pulling out her wallet and slapping a 20-dollar bill into his hand. "Thank you. I was wondering when someone would finally make the statement."

"Cap."
"Stark," the super-soldier nodded curtly without meeting his gaze. He'd been staring at the same, blank white wall for the past five hours or so. At one point in the middle of the night he'd lost track of time. He couldn't really tell how much time had passed anymore. "What are you doing up this early?"
"She's my daughter," he replied, "and I could ask you the same. It's 5:30 in the morning. Why are you awake?"
"Waiting for news."
"Well," Tony breathed out, wringing out his hands, "I just came from inside. She argued with the doctors for ten minutes until they finally caved and allowed her to be transferred to her room, so if you can carry her back that'd be good. A princess needs her knight in shining armor to come and save her, huh?"
Steve simply rolled his eyes. "Don't be ridiculous, Tony."
"I'm not."
"Sure sounds like you are."
The super-soldier went into the temporary room you were placed in, carefully scooping you up and starting to walk down the halls to your room, much to your protests. But after you realized it was his arms you were in and not someone else's, he saw you visibly relax a bit. Smiling to himself at the thought, he pushed your bedroom door open with one hand and stepped inside.
"Hey, you can let go now," Steve said, unwinding your arms from around his neck, and you settled back against your bed into a mound of pillows. Now that the drug was completely flushed out of your system you no longer felt like your body was made of lead, so you felt a bit more awake. Though fatigue was still tugging at your eyes, it was mostly because of the fact that you hadn't really slept all too well in the past week.
Or maybe it was because you were alone with him, his piercing blue eyes seeming to stare right past you into your soul and making your stomach flutter.
No. You couldn't think that way. He wasn't anything more than a close friend.
But if he was, then why was he making you feel like this?
"Get some rest now, okay? I'll check in on you later." He tucked your hair behind your ear and let his hand linger against your cheek for a bit before pulling it away. "See you in a bit."
"Thanks," you mumbled sleepily, "for everything. And I'm sorry for being a burden to you guys. You don't deserve that extra pressure on your shoulders."
"It's nothing," he smiled softly, "you're not being burdensome at all. Just get better for me, okay? That's all I want."
"Please stay," you spoke in a barely audible voice as he was about to open the door, placing his hand on top of the handle, "I don't want to be alone."
He turned around and sat down at the edge of your bed, running his fingers through your hair which started to slowly lull you into a sleepy state. You felt your eyes starting to drift shut after what felt like weeks of pulling all-nighters back-to-back with no end, and within seconds you'd drifted off completely under his touch.
Soon enough, he fell asleep as well, still holding onto you.

"I brought breakfast," Bucky announced as he walked in with a tray holding yours and Steve's food, "oh, well, you guys are asleep. I'll just leave this here."
"Bucky, hey."
"Hey...what are you doing in here...?" he gave Steve a confused look before an evil grin started spreading across his face. "Shouldn't you be...in your own room..."
"She didn't want to be alone."
"O-kay. Well. Tell her to wake up and eat because she hasn't eaten in the past 24 hours."
"Y/N."
Steve attempted to shake you awake several times but failed. "Y/N, come on, it's time to eat. You need to eat now."
"She's completely knocked out," he shrugged, raising an eyebrow at your sleeping form against Steve's broad shoulder, "you're gonna have to try something else."
"You got any better ideas?"
"Kiss her."
"No, I'm not doing that. This isn't some sort of fairytale where true love's kiss will magically wake the sleepy princess up."
"Kiss who?" you mumbled, reaching your hand over and subconsciously lacing Steve's fingers with yours. "Buck, are you and Steve together? Aww, how cute. If I had to choose any other ship then it'd probably be Stucky. Stucky for life."
"Well shit, she's under meds, still," Bucky rubbed a hand against his forehead, "but at least she's awake."
"Bucky, you know I love you, but we're not...like that..." Steve stuttered.
"Yeah. I ship you and Y/N more than I ship myself with you."
"Shut up."
"If it makes things any better, I wouldn't mind kissing you, either," you mumbled, causing Steve to freeze on the spot.
Bucky started cackling maniacally. "Man, your face is so red right now. Just wait till I get a snapshot of this and send it to Tony. He's so gonna kill you."
