There has been some tension in the camp recently, mainly due to the fact that you and Arthur were fighting. You and Arthur never normally fought but this was a big fight. You were fighting because of a job that you did together.
The job went south pretty quickly, it caused you both to get pretty worked up and it wasn't long because you were both on edge. Normally you and Arthur worked well together, neither of you knew what went wrong but it ended up with you both blaming each other. While you were both just trying to get out with your lives, you both started snapping at each other.
The pair of you said some things that you didn't mean, things that you both regretted afterwards, but neither of you apologised for it afterwards. When you returned to the camp you were both still worked up so you just parted ways. That lead to you both starting to avoid each other.
However, this only left your anger to fester. Now, whenever you ran into each other in the camp, you would snap at each other. It started with some snarky comments but then it started to seem like you were both just trying to hurt each other's feelings on purpose.
-----
You had lost count of how many times you and Arthur had argued this week, but here you were again. You had passed each other in the camp and both of you just snapped at each other again. The rest of the gang was getting used to your arguing at this point but a lot of them just wanted you two to make up, it wasn't right for you both to be fighting. You were better together than apart.
"Goddamn, Y/N, you're a piece of work" Arthur snarled at you, a scoff instantly escaping you.
"How would you know? You're always doing work for other people" you asked, rolling your eyes as you crossed your arms over your chest.
"Really? This again?" he asked with an irritated sigh.
"'This again?', yes 'this again' Arthur. How can I possibly be a 'piece of work' when you are always so busy with someone else. Surely, Dutch is more work than I am?" you pointed out. So, you were 'work' to Arthur but everything that Dutch made him do wasn't? "You never have any time for me because you're always running around after Dutch, and if it isn't Dutch it is someone else" you huffed.
"I have things to do. If I don't do it, nobody will" Arthur reminded you, now crossing his own arms.
"That wouldn't be the end of the world Arthur" you sighed. If Arthur didn't work for one day, the camp wouldn't collapse!
"You explain that to Dutch" he scoffed, about ready to just walk away.
"Y'know what, Arthur? Sometimes I think that you're just like a tamed animal. You just follow orders like a loyal dog. It's okay to take a break and tend to other priorities, y'know?" you shrugged, shooting him a quick glare. You were tired of being Arthur's second priority, it seemed like he thought that you would just wait around for him while he worried about everyone and everything else.
"I don't have time for this, Y/N" Arthur huffed.
"Oh, that's a surprise" you scoffed, sending him a sarcastic smile before turning around and walking away.
Arthur groaned to himself, running his hand over his face, even he could see his mistake in that conversation. He messed up.
"Well, that went well" John commented, having heard the whole conversation.
"John, shut up" Arthur snapped before walking away, going to run a job for Dutch.
John just laughed quietly to himself, he knew that you would both fix things and get back to normal. Everyone knew that you loved each other, it was only a matter of time before the two of you remembered that. You were both just too proud to apologise, neither of you wanted to admit that you were wrong, even though you were both wrong.
-----
Your whole body tensed when you saw Arthur walking over to you, you weren't in the mood to speak with him right now. "Y/N...Dutch wants us to check out a possible lead" Arthur mumbled, scratching the back of his neck.
"Find someone else, Arthur. I'll probably just get in the way" you rolled your eyes, using his own words against him. He had told you that you get in the way during an argument the other day. He hadn't actually meant it, but he knew that it would get under your skin.
"Goddamn it. Dutch wants us to go, so grab your shit" he insisted, sounding more than irritated.
"You make a real convincing argument, really you do" you rolled your eyes, your voice thick with sarcasm. "But no, fuck you" you shook your head, remaining in your seat.
"Real mature" Arthur scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Why are you being so difficult?" he asked, looking down at you tiredly.
"Why are you being an asshole?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at him. Arthur just muttered under his breath as he walked away, giving up on trying to convince you.
You knew that you couldn't go on a job with Arthur right now. A job was what started this whole fighting thing, the last thing you needed was another job making it worse.
-----
You grunted as you bumped right into Arthur, neither of you had been paying attention since you were both lost in your thoughts. Arthur opened his mouth to speak and you just knew that it was going to be a snarky comment, so you spoke before he could.
"Not today, Arthur. Not in the mood" you mumbled before just walking past him, not giving him a chance to respond.
Arthur was actually a little stunned, he had expected an insult or at least a scoff and a huff, but that felt even worse than when you were fighting. You just sounded tired.
Your next few encounters with Arthur went by like that. You would just brush him off and simply saying something along the lines of 'I can't be bothered fighting'.
Everyone had noticed that you just seemed tired now and that was because that's exactly what you were. You were tired of fighting, you didn't want to do it anymore but it seemed that Arthur only ever wanted to fight. When ever you were within a few feet of each other, he made a nasty comment, so you didn't even want to try to talk to him. How could you talk to him when he only ever seemed to want to hurt you?
Arthur didn't like fighting with you but when you were fighting, at least you were talking, at least you were looking at him. Now it seemed like you didn't want anything to do with him. Even fighting was better than this silence from you.
You wouldn't speak to him, you wouldn't interact with him, you wouldn't even look at him. Arthur hated it. When you were arguing, you were still together, he still felt like there was something between you both, but now there was just nothing.
It just felt like you were drifting away from him, like you had given up on him. Arthur knew that he had to do something to make this right.
-----
You were in your tent, laying on your cot. You were just staring up at the top of your tent while you thought about everything that was happening with Arthur. You had spent the last half an hour silently cursing yourself for letting it get this far, for not apologising or trying to talk to him earlier. You missed Arthur and the way you were before this stupid fighting began.
Your attention turned to the front of your tent when Arthur stepped inside, but you remained laying on your back as he close the canvas behind him. "Arthur, if you're here to argue, just leave" you mumbled, adverting your gaze from him.
"I don't want to fight, I just want to talk" Arthur spoke softly. His words and his tone caught your attention, it had been too long since you heard him talk like that.
"Okay..." you nodded as you sat up on your cot, watching him carefully.
"I hate arguing with you but I hate this even more. I hate that you won't even look at him, that you don't want anything to do with me. I miss you" Arthur confessed as he walked towards you, standing in front of you.
"I miss you too, Arthur. I...I couldn't talk to you because I didn't want to risk fighting again. I just want us to go back to normal. Goddamn it, I can't even remember why we were fighting in the first place" you sighed, the whole thing seemed so stupid now.
"Because I'm an idiot. The job went wrong and I blamed you for it even though it wasn't your fault" he sighed, seemingly disappointed with himself, as he scratched the back of his neck.
"It wasn't your fault either but I just...I was frustrated and I took that out on you" you admitted, hanging your head in shame. How could you both have been so stupid?
"Let's just stop blaming each other and fix this" Arthur suggested as he sat down beside you, just happy that you were willing to talk to him after everything that had happened.
"I'm sorry...I'm sorry for the things that I said. I don't really think that you prioritise everyone else over me. I know that you work hard for the gang, I know that if you don't do these things then nobody will. They need you too" you apologised sincerely, turning your head to look at him.
"No, Y/N, I'm sorry. You were right, I'm busy a lot. But when I'm doing all those jobs for everyone else, I'm just thinking about coming back to you. Maybe I do need to take more time to just be with you, I think that would make us both happier" Arthur apologised as well, admitting that you had made a good point during your argument. He knew that he didn't always make the time for you but you needed to know that he loved and missed you whenever he couldn't be with you.
"Arthur...I'm tired, can we talk about this tomorrow?" you asked with a sigh, you were glad that you both wanted to return to normal but right now you just needed to rest.
"Yeah, yeah, sure. Goodnight, Y/N" Arthur smiled slightly, clearly a little sad, as he stood up to leave.
You reached out and grabbed his hand, making him look down at you curiously. "I meant...can you stay?" you asked. You wanted to rest and sleep well for the first time since you and Arthur starting arguing but you didn't want Arthur to leave.
"Of course" Arthur smiled, and you swear that you saw relief in his eyes.
Arthur kicked off his boots before removing his hat and jacket. He waited for you to move over before joining you on the cot. You both lay on your sides, facing each other. You both had so much to say but neither of you knew how to say it.
Instead, Arthur just wrapped his arm around you and pulled you into his body. You wrapped your arm around his waist as you cuddled into his chest, it felt good to be in his arms again.
"I love you" Arthur whispered into you hair, his arm tightening around you as he held you close to him.
"I love you too" you whispered back, getting comfortable in his embrace.
Still, you couldn't sleep. You felt much better now that you were in Arthur's arms once again but things still weren't quite right. You gently lifted your head, only to see that Arthur was already looking down at you.
You lifted your hand and softly placed it on his cheeks, smiling at the feel of his stubble under your palm. Your thumb gently stroked his cheek as you silently admired his eyes, you had always loved Arthur's eyes.
Leaning towards him slowly, you pressed your lips to his. Arthur instantly returned your kiss, the two of you relaxing even more than before. You both just melted into the kiss as the pair of you relaxed.
You had missed being in Arthur's arms and Arthur had missed having you in his arms, you had missed this, you had missed each other.
"We're going to be alright" Arthur whispered as he rested his forehead against yours.
"Of course we are. People argue, Arthur. That doesn't mean that I don't love you, it doesn't mean that we can't go back to normal" you assured him with a soft smile, your fingers running through his hair.
"I've been a real fool, Y/N. I promise that this isn't going to happen again, not after this" he promised you. If Arthur knew one thing after this, he was never going to let it get this bad again.
"Never again" you agreed with a smile.
Arthur wrapped his arms around you again as your head returned to his chest. It wasn't long before the pair of you fell asleep in the comfortable embrace.
The next morning you and Arthur sat and talked some more about the fight that you had been having, you had both apologised profusely and forgave each other for everything. You both knew that you were both as equally to blame for the childish fighting.
You and Arthur spent the whole day together, as a way of making it up to each other. Maybe Arthur was trying to make a point about making more time for you, either way you didn't care. You were just happy to have him back and for things going back to normal.
The rest of the gang were just glad that you were talking to each other again, glad that you had both made up. Everyone knew that you both loved each other and that it was only a matter of time before you both apologised and put it behind you.
