Word Count: 2300
You met the mayor's son at the mayor's party in Saint Denis when you went with Dutch, Hosea, Arthur and Bill. He instantly knew that you didn't belong there. He had been to plenty of these parties, it was his entire life, so he knew that this was your first high society party. He couldn't deny that you had caught his interest.
You two got to talking and it turned out that you were the same age. You spent the rest of the evening with him and you ended up having a lot of fun together. Perhaps you underestimated the members of high society.
At the end of the night, when you had to return to the others, he asked if he could see you again and you really liked the sound of that. So, you had planned a time and place to meet for a date in Saint Denis.
You had never been on a date since the gang was far too protective over you, they wouldn't let a man near you enough to talk never-mind date.
Now, your date the the mayor's son was in two days. However, he apparently just couldn't wait that long so he sent you a letter.
The part where this all falls apart is that you never received the letter, because another member of the gang found it first...
"Just read it Arthur!" John ordered, annoyance clear in his voice, as he pushed the letter in Arthur's face.
"Why are you reading other people's mail anyway?" Arthur asked with a grunt, snatching the letter from his hand.
"Not just other people's mail, Y/N's mail. It looked real suspicious, she doesn't get mail, she only knows us" John pointed out, trying to convince Arthur to read the letter that John had already read.
"...fine" Arthur sighed, figuring that John was probably right. Arthur silently read the letter while John waited impatiently.
Arthur's brow furrowed in confusion and distaste as he realised that this was quite clearly a love letter, signed by a "H . Lemieux".
"Lemieux? Where do I know that name?" Arthur hummed to himself, quickly scanning over the letter again.
"You know who it is?" John asked, his eyes widening slightly.
"Holy shit..." Arthur whispered as the realisation hit him.
"What?" John asked, wishing that his friend would fill him in on what the hell was going on.
"H . Lemieux...Henri Lemieux, that's the name of the Mayor of Saint Denis" Arthur told him as he folded the letter up again.
"The Mayor is sending love letters to Y/N? She's a kid!" John asked, disgusted by the while situation.
"He must be one hell of a creep..." Arthur shook his head, running his hand through his hair. How long had he been sending you letters? Was this the first? Did you even know about it?
"So what do we do? Should we give it to Y/N?" John asked, knowing it was probably the right way to handle this.
"Yeah...that's probably the right thing to do..." Arthur nodded hesitantly.
"We're going to give it to Dutch, aren't we?" the younger man asked with a small sigh.
"We certainly are" Arthur nodded before they both walked over to Dutch. They felt bad for going to Dutch instead of you but...they did it anyway.
They took the letter to Dutch to let him read it and he came to the same conclusion, the mayor was sending you love letter. If they had just come to you first they would have learnt that they were wrong, it was not the mayor sending you a letter, it was his teenage son.
"Do you think he is pursuing her?" John asked, still on edge.
"I would say so...Arthur, did you see her talking to the mayor at his party?" Dutch asked, not understanding how else you could have met.
"No, I spoke with him but I never saw her go anywhere near him" Arthur shook his head, just as confused at the other two.
"So he's...stalking her?" John suggested.
"But how would he even know who she is?" Arthur asked, shaking his head. It didn't make sense.
"Are you two blind, read the letter again if you have too but it's obvious that they have met before. It talks about their last meeting" Dutch rolled his eyes, handing the letter back over to Arthur.
"You think she has been meeting with the mayor?" John asked with wide eyes, appalled by the possibility of you doing such a thing.
"She wouldn't do that" Arthur told him, he knew you better than that.
"I think you're right Arthur...the mayor wouldn't write like this. It's well written but it's almost childish, it's naive and speaks of love not lust. I don't think this is from the mayor" Dutch shook his head, not believing it.
"Then who? Somebody using the mayor's name?" John asked, still as confused as before.
"I think we should ask Y/N" Dutch told them, they needed to speak to you before jumping to conclusions.
You were minding your own business, like they should be, when the three men approached you. You knew that something was wrong, you could see it all over their faces.
"Are you alright?" you asked, looking up at the three men.
"We need to talk to you about something" Dutch told you, gesturing for you to follow him. You nodded as you followed the three men to Dutch's tent, Arthur closing the canvas once you were all inside.
"Am I in trouble or something? Have I done something wrong?" you asked, obviously something wasn't right and you had no idea what this was about.
"We found this. We shouldn't have read it but we did, what do you have to say about it?" Dutch spoke as he handed you a folded piece of paper.
You unfolded it and began to read...it was a letter addressed to you. Actually it was a love letter and you knew who it was from before you saw who it was signed by. You smiled as you read the whole thing, momentarily forgetting about the three men in front of you.
"Oh...wow" you whispered in awe. Then you realised that they had been reading your mail. "Wait...you read my mail? You opened and read my mail, and then passed it around for other people to read?" you asked as you pocketed the letter, you couldn't believe that they would do that to you.
"John opened it and insisted that I read it" Arthur told you, holding his hands up in surrender, earning an elbow in the ribs from John.
"Then they brought it to me" Dutch explained.
"Well, you should've brought it to me. Why do you want to talk to me about this?" you asked, crossing your arms over your chest. The three men were starting to feel guilty now.
"Do you not have anything to say about who the letter is from? The mayor of Saint Denis, what are you doing with him?" Dutch asked, looking down at you like a disappointed parent. In many ways Dutch had been like a father to you but that doesn't stop it from being annoying.
"The mayor?...oh God, no, no, it's not from the mayor" you told them, shaking your head and laughing like it was all some joke. You covered your mouth with your hand as your laughing died down.
"But that's the mayor's name...who is it from then?" Arthur asked, simply confused at this point.
"...the mayor's son" you told them with a sigh. You had planned on not telling anyone about your date because you knew that everyone would get all weird about it, you knew that they would all get protective over you. You knew that Arthur and John would react the worst because they had been like your older brothers ever since you joined the gang, they never even let you leave the camp alone. "They have the same name, y'know, like a family name. Like how Micah has the same name as his father and grandfather. Henri has the same name as his father. The letter is from the mayor's teenage son" you explained, deciding that they would all react better to you dating a man the same age as you so you might as well tell the truth.
"Well...that makes a lot more sense" Dutch nodded with a small sigh, relieved that it was the son and not the mayor.
"It's definitely less gross" John nodded, seeming a little more at ease but still not completely happy with the idea, earning a slightly confused look from you.
"So the mayor's son was who you were talking to at the party" Arthur nodded, remembering seeing you speaking with a young man but at the time he had assumed you were trying to get information.
"Are you three finished prying into my private life now?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at them all.
"One more thing...you're going to see him again?" Dutch asked, the letter had mentioned seeing you again so he assumed that you had a date planned.
"Yeah, I am. We have a date in two days" you nodded, knowing that he would just follow you if you weren't honest with him. You can't lie to these people, they always find out the truth. Annoyingly.
"A date? I don't like it" John huffed, shaking his head.
"Excuse me?" you asked, titling your head at him.
"You're going on a date with the mayor's son, there is something wrong about that" John pointed out. You understood that you were both from different worlds, that your relationship would be rather unusual, but that was none of his business.
"It's none of your business. It's just a date, Henri is a good man, you have nothing to worry about" you assured them, you couldn't blame them for worrying but you still didn't have to be happy about it.
"We're never going to stop worrying about you, Y/N" Dutch reminded you, something that you already knew.
"I'm not a kid!" you exclaimed, you were getting older and you thought that you deserved privacy and your own life.
"Yes you are" Arthur smiled fondly as he threw an arm over your shoulders, something he did to annoy you like an older brother would.
"I'm going on that date" you told them sternly. The three of them wouldn't say anything but they were all amused by your attempt to be strict, they all loved you but you didn't scare them.
"We won't stop you...but don't blame me if somebody follows you" Dutch shrugged, an amused smile appearing on his face.
"If somebody follows me, I'm leaving" you threatened but none of them were convinced.
"No your not" Arthur chuckled, pulling you further into his side.
"I'm going and I'm going alone" you insisted, not pulling away from Arthur but glaring at Dutch. You knew that the others were more likely to listen to Dutch than anyone else.
"I'm sure you will" Dutch nodded, still amused and not taking your threats seriously.
"I hate you all" you mumbled, rolling your eyes at them.
"No you don't" Arthur chuckled again.
"Yeah, yeah, you're lucky I love you all" you huffed and pushed Arthur's arm off of your shoulders. You pushed past him and opened the tent's canvas. "And stop reading my mail!" you shouted back at the three of them as you left the tent and walked away. Sometimes you hated these people, okay that's a lie...you'll always love them.

Finally it was time for your date with Henri. You had tried to sneak out of the camp but Arthur and John were waiting for you, thankfully they didn't follow you, they only teased you before letting you leave the camp. Well, they offered to escort you into Saint Denis but you assured them that you would be fine.
Unfortunately those three men couldn't keep their mouths shut for long. You dating the mayor's son was pretty big news and they ended up telling the whole camp, which led to a lot of people having a lot to say to you. You had made them all promise to leave you alone, to not discuss it anymore and to definitely not follow you on your date.
You loved the gang, you really did, but you didn't trust them to keep those promises. You had expected a few of them to turn up on your date and you were right.
You and Henri had got into the saloon for a quick drink before starting your 'real' date. Micah, Bill, and Javier had just so happened to be sitting at a table in the back. You never pointed it out to Henri, you just finished your drinks and left.
As you were walking down the street with your arm wrapped around Henri's when a very familiar Irishman came into view. He seemed to be dragging Kieran along with him, he didn't look happy about being here. You were sure that Sean had made him join him. Sean had put on some sort of drunken act, he had bumped right into you and apologised. "I'm so sorry miss, enjoy the rest of your night!" Sean smiled before walking away. Kieran mumbled a quiet apology as he followed Sean down the street. Henri quickly shrugged it off and you pretended not to know the two men.
Thankfully Arthur and John didn't make an appearance even though you thought they would. At least they kept their promises. They were the most protective of you but they also wanted you to keep trusting them and they knew that you wouldn't forgive them for spying on your date.
You were going to kill them when you returned from your date, the gang was relentless but you knew that they were only that way because they cared. That's why you forgave them every time.
