"Indeed this is, why do you ask?" The man responded. You could see that he was on edge.
"I wish to take a look at the undeciphered versions of your holy books. I believe I can decipher them." You said. With the surprise on the man's face, it's a wonder he didn't have a heart attack. He rushed around the room, grabbing a few things. A blank book, a quill and ink, a copy of the story you had from Roswaal all those resets ago.
"Please sir, come right this way." He bid you walk into a side room. You complied, coming to a table, with two cushioned seats. He sat at the one furthest from the door.
"I won't ask how you can decipher this, the only important part is that you know." The man visibly quivered with excitement as you took a seat, grabbing the book in front of you.
"Please, start with the Stardust Crusaders. We have most of their story, we just need to know more." The man urged you. You nodded as you started reading aloud.
Everything the book had was slowly revealed. Stands, the tarot cards, the tale of Dio's fall, all of it. The only things you kept out were the names. It was a surprise for the man to learn that the figure they call 'The Fool' was a black and white dog, but he only embraced it, taking it all in. In about an hour and a half of dedicated reading, you reached the end of the story of the Stardust Crusaders. The old man closed his book, writing a title on it.
"I will have this copied right away! Can you read off the other three stories, of the Diamond, Golden, and Stone Crusaders?" The man asked. You only nodded, turning to the beginning of the Diamond Crusaders story.
The story passed, and the man finished off the book, followed by the books of the Golden and Stone Crusaders. Many surprises came to him during this time. The Golden Crusaders were eventually gang members that betrayed their boss, only to apparently send him on a never ending quest for "The Truth". The Stone Crusaders were criminals who were forced to defy the law in order to save the world from a threat the world didn't know existed. When the last book was written off and completed, the sun had well set, and the man was still as energetic as ever.
"With all this, the church will have days of new stories to tell, lesson to teach! Tell me, young man, what is your name?" The old man pleaded. You smiled, shaking your head as you stood.
"My name isn't important." You stated, getting up. Fall Out Boy pushed your chair in, to the man's surprise.
"Wait... are you..." you used Fall Out Boy to open the door, and closed it behind you, leaving the man a stuttering mess. To be honest, you didn't feel bad, as the man just had his holy books completely rewritten, completed. All you wanted the man to remember of this was that a Crusader had come and finished writing his holy books. With a smile, you left the church.
You walked into the place you and company were staying, only to be met with silence. It seems that everyone-
"Where were you all day, Y/n?" You froze at Emilia's question. You hadn't told anyone where you were going.
"I was just attending to some business I had from my last visit here." You explained. You heard a sigh and yawn.
"Please, go to bed. I need you well rested for the royal selection tomorrow. I can't have people saying I don't let my knight sleep." She spoke, prompting you to him in response.
"Mhm. You should get some rest as well. It would've been wiser to have Rem stay up and wait for me, y'know?" You said, causing Emilia to sigh.
"Just go to bed, please." She requested.
"Yeah, on my way to the bed." You responded.
In a minute, you were wrapped in a large blanket, letting sleep take you over.
The large building stood before you, as Roswaal stood to your right, and Emilia in front of you. Poor Subaru had been left with Rem to wait while the selection thing took place. As of now, you were entering the hall, where several knights stood in and orderly fashion to either knight. You felt several stated land on you as you walked. No wonder, you looked like a simple servant. The door behind you opened, and Emilia and Roswaal turned around. You turned as well to see a rather surprising sight.
"Subaru?" Emilia asked, in disbelief. Subaru was walking alongside one of the other candidates, a girl who looked like the definition of a twat, with her knight beside her, a stout man wearing a helmet to hide his face, and a green vest, showing several muscles.
"Don't get the wrong idea, Emilia~Tan!" He shouted. You sighed in disappointment. It was kinda a stretch to say that you didn't expect something like that from him.
"Why do you look at my manservant like that, half-wit?" The opposing candidate asked, hugging Subaru's arm between her.... um.... ((*Ahem*))....chests, much to his surprise. Before you could speak up to her about what she said, Roswaal stepped up to defuse the situation.
"How nice to see you, Priscilla~Sama!" Roswaal spoke, drawing her attention.
"Do forgive my servant for troubling you so." He asked, as Subaru was finally released, and Priscilla walked by Emilia, who stared at Subaru.
"Why are you here, Subaru?" Emilia asked. Before Subaru could answer, Emilia continued.
"Didn't I ask you to be good and wait? Why did you come here instead?" She asked again.
"The council of Wise Men will now enter." Your attention was drawn to the doors, where several men in purple robes entered the room. You saw Subaru conversing with Priscilla's knight for a moment, before the knight pointed somewhere.
"That is where we're to stand."
"I can stand there?" Subaru asked. Roswaal hummed in amusement.
"Well now, it sounds entertaining, so you may accompany him." He answered, as Emilia turned to him.
"Wait, Roswaal! If Subaru is allowed to stay, he'll-"
"Miss Emilia, the conference is about to start. To the center." Roswaal instructed her. She looked forward as the men started to take seats, and Priscilla stood by another candidate, with green hair and a military kinda look.
"Subaru, I'm sure Emilia expects an explanation later." You told him, as Emilia stood by Priscilla. You eventually stood in the crowd of knights, with Subaru behind you. As Subaru conversed with the knight behind him, the knight in front of you turned around.
"You came after all, Subaru." Reinhard spoke, to the surprise of both of you.
"When I heard Emilia~Sama would be here, I suspected you would be here as well. And greetings to you, Y/n." Reinhard continued before greeting you. You simply nodded towards him as Subaru's face lit up.
"Reinhard, I've been looking for you!" As he said this, another knight, this one appearing to be female, approached Subaru.
"Hiya, Subaru~Kyun!" They greeted.
"You..." Subaru said, before Reinhard spoke up.
"Oh, Subaru, you know him?" Reinhard asked.
Him? Is this a trap? Subaru had a more verbal reaction to that question.
"Huh? 'Him?'"
"Yes, He is a knight, Felix Argyle. Despite appearances, he is male." Reinhard stated.
"If you're a guy, then what's the point in having those looks and even cat ears?" Subaru asked, looking around at Felix. He was right, Felix had Cat ears and a tail.
"I don't know." Felix responded, walking away.
"You're the one who made the wrong assumption, Subaru~Kyun!" As you watched, a knight with purple hair stepped in front of Reinhard, taking his spot in front of the Master Swordsman. He looked back, giving a simple nod in greetings towards Subaru. He growled in response.
"Something wrong, Subaru?" You asked him, as he glared at the purple haired knight.
"Y/n, this is the expression you make when facing a romantic rival!" Subaru declared. You rolled your eyes as Fall Out Boy materialized, giving him a good slap behind the head.
"Hey! Who did that!" Subaru looked around, seeing nobody who could've slapped him. In the front of the room, a knight with green hair stepped up, beginning to speak.
"If I may be so forward, I, Marcos, leader of the Imperial Knights, will direct today's proceedings." He started to tell a story about how the royal family went into hiding, before one of the candidates, a purple haired girl wearing the kind of winter gear rich kindergarten girls wore spoke up, talking some crap about how time was money, and how she didn't have the time for this. Before you could register any of this, the green haired one agreed, before being called out, by the name of Crusch. So she was the one with the healer Subaru had to see.
"While it is true that one day, we will face each other as rivals, by sharing the same table and drinks, we can learn about one another." She finished. One of the 'wise men' responded by shaking his head.
"No, that is not correct." Crusch looked at back Felix.
"This is not what you told me, Felis." She responded. In response, Felix waved his hand in an oh please gesture.
"All I said was 'Maybe it'll be a drinking party.'"
"I see. I must've jumped to conclusions." Crusch stated, turning back.
"Forgive me. Allow me to retract what I just said." As she finished, the purple haired one beside her, to her right, spoke up.
"It doesn't matter anyway. My point still stands: There is no need to explain the royal selection. We already know what's happening." Emilia tried to speak up.
"Um... maybe we should hear about the-"
"Sorry, but I wasn't askin' your opinion." The purple haired one interrupted again. She was starting to really annoy you. Fall Out Boy subconsciously appeared behind you. You dismissed it as the conversation went on.
"Hey!" The knight behind Subaru raised his hand.
"I don't know what's up with the selection, so I'd kinda like to hear the rest." The wise man turned to Priscilla
"Priscilla~Sama, I'm told this man is your knight. Have you explained the selection to him?" Priscilla sighed.
"Either way, you men will ramble on about it, yes? Continue, Marcos." She said.
Blah blah blah, gathered priestesses, new prophecy, big rock, five people enter, one leaves, become ruler, blah blah-
Wait, five?
"Five?" Subaru's question mirrored your thoughts.
"Yes, five." Reinhard smiled.
"Currently, there are four candidates. The selection hasn't even begun." Reinhard narrowed his eyes with a smile.
"Today, however, history is set in motion." Reinhard finished as the wise men spoke again.
"Knight Reinhard Van Astrea, step forward." Reinhard walked forward, taking a bow as the four candidates in front of him looked back.
"Honored members of the council of wise men, I, Reinhard van Astrea, of the Imperial Knights..." your mind started to wander. This was getting really boring, and you weren't sure you could keep up. After a few moments, the door opened and through it stepped a familiar face.
Wearing a yellow dress, walking in front of two girls who seemed to be servants, was the most unlikely thief you could imagine.

As you can probably imagine by now, writing off of the script is preeeety boring. This is my first story where I actually follow a storyline, even if only temporary. Other than that, you all have a great day!
