<<a/n: warning this is kinda long oopsie but i love the ending bc it's like to all the boys i've loved before eeee>>
"Hi, sweetie!" your mom's voice came through the phone in a cheerful tone. "How's it going over there? Is the superhero life treating you alright?"
"Mhm, it's really nice," you nodded, adjusting the phone against your shoulder as you cleared some things off your desk. "Although I sometimes wake up by Tony blasting AC/DC and having a solo dance party at three in the morning."
"Oh, I see," she chuckled. "Did you get shot yet on any missions? Or stabbed?"
"Only twice," you joked. "One to the stomach, and a knife in the thigh."
"What?!"
"I'm kidding. I was just grazed by a bullet on the shoulder only once. I've had a few cuts here and there, but nothing serious or life-threatening."
"Thank goodness you're alive, honey. Those HYDRA agents sound like total jerks."
"Of course they are," you laughed, "they're attempting to take over the world. What do you expect?"
"Uh huh. And how's your love life going on? Do you have a boyfriend yet? I do hope that you can find time for a relationship, although I know you can be pretty preoccupied at times..."
"Yep!" you exclaimed without thinking.
Oops.
Shit.
What did I do?
I'm doomed.
"Really?"
"He's amazing," you fake-sighed. "Six months strong!"
"That's great, sweetie! Well, I was just calling to let you know that there's a family reunion coming up tomorrow night at our place. Auntie Jamie really wants to see you again, since you missed out last time! Everyone's looking forward to seeing you."
"Don't worry, I'll be there," you reassured her.
"Make sure to bring your boyfriend along! We'd love to meet him!"
"Uh...o-okay," you stuttered into the phone. "He'll be there, too."
"Bye, love you!"
"Okay, bye," and with that, you hung up, shaking violently.
What did you do?
You'd accidentally let slip that you weren't single and you were in a relationship to your mother, and now, you would have to bring your nonexistent boyfriend to your family reunion.
If you didn't, God knows what could happen to your reputation.
You shuffled into Natasha's room like a zombie, flopping back against her bed as you let out a loud groan.
"Woah," Natasha looked up from where she was playing cards with Wanda, "did Clint jump down from the vents and steal your chicken nuggets again?"
"No, I just got myself into huge trouble," you slapped a palm to your forehead before proceeding to scream into one of her fluffy pillows.
"What happened?" Wanda set down her cards and looked at you with concern. "Is something wrong?"
"Yes, something is very wrong," you stared up at the ceiling. "My mom called and said that there's a giant family reunion at our house tomorrow for dinner..."
"What's so bad about that? Family reunions are normal."
"I'm getting there! Anyways, I accidentally let slip that I had a boyfriend...even though I don't. Now she wants to meet him and I have to bring him to the family reunion tomorrow night!"
"Oh damn..." Natasha muttered as she examined her nails, "you got yourself in pretty deep, girl. Who are you gonna bring?"
"That's the problem!" You flailed your arms around wildly, sitting up and looking at her with wide eyes. "I don't know!"
A cheeky grin spread across Wanda's face. "I know who you could ask to be your 'boyfriend'...Oh my gosh! This is the perfect opportunity for it."
"No," you shot her a death glare, "no way. He doesn't feel the same way about me and I can't take him as my boyfriend if he hasn't even asked me out!"
"I think Steve would do it, though. And the point of this is just to bring someone! It doesn't matter if he asked you out yet or not!"
"No."
"Well, you don't really have much of a choice at this point. You said so yourself that you need to bring someone along! Who else are you going to bring?"
"Okay okay okay, fine. I'll bring him."
"Go ask him now!" she urged. "Come on!"
...
"Here we go," you sucked in a deep breath as you made your way to where Steve was with Clint, Sam, and Bucky, downstairs to the training room. "Let's hope he doesn't say no, because if he does, my life is over."
You pushed open the doors and were greeted by Clint shooting his arrows at the target and making bulls-eyes every time, and Sam sparring with Steve and Bucky. They looked up when they noticed you'd entered and waved.
"Hey," Steve waved at you.
"Sup," Sam greeted, coming over to give you a fist-bump. "What's going on?"
"Steve," you turned and focused your gaze on the super-soldier, "I need you to do me a favor."
"Sure," he shrugged. "What is it?"
"So...I have a big family dinner tomorrow with my cousins and everyone and my aunts and uncles. My mom called and asked me if I had a boyfriend. I accidentally told her I did, so if I show up tomorrow night without someone by my side, they're never going to let me hear the end of it so can you do me a favor and be my date please?"
"Ooooooh, she's smooth!" Clint and Bucky whooped from across the room.
He looked surprised at first, but his expression quickly changed into a genuine smile. "Sure, why not. What time should I be ready by tomorrow?"
"We can leave by 5:30."
"Great."
"Thank you thank you thank you!" You threw yourself into his arms and he chuckled, wrapping his arms around your waist. "You're the best."
"I sure am," he smirked.
"Let's make a bet," Bucky whispered into Sam's ear. "Twenty bucks that they will actually become a couple."
"Dude," Sam whispered back, "There's no need to make a bet. It's a guarantee."
"Oh hell yeah."
...
"So," you let out a deep breath, taking your hands off the steering wheel to gesture at your house to Steve, "this is it. Be ready for my little cousins and their one billion questions."
"I'm ready," he grinned. "Let's go."
You stepped out of the car and were immediately greeted by a little girl slamming into your legs. "Y/N!" she squealed.
"Hi there little Laila," you cooed, picking her up and lifting her in the air, causing her to giggle. "How's it been?"
"Good. Mommy bought me ice cream yesterday."
"Y/N!" another voice shouted. "YOU DIDN'T TELL ME THAT CAPTAIN AMERICA WAS YOUR BOYFRIEND!"
"Hi, Caleb," you chuckled. "Here's Steve Rogers, in all his glory."
Eighteen year-old Caleb gaped up at Steve in awe.
Steve held out his hand to shake. "Hi, you must be Caleb. I'm Steve."
"It's nice to meet you," Caleb greeted, his eyes glittering with excitement. "Is Y/N nice to you?"
"Of course she is."
"Luckyyyyy," he whined. "Last time she came, she started a Nerf gun war and wouldn't stop beating me up with the pillows afterward."
"Oh ho ho," Steve shook his head, laughing, "she does that back home, too. She shot Tony straight in the back, and he wouldn't talk to her for the rest of the day. That's if she's feeling nice. If she's feeling mean, then she'll start an all-out water gun fight and relentlessly pelt you with water balloons."
"Tony? As in, Tony Stark?"
"Yep."
"Y/N!" he yelled with excitement, pointing at him. "I like him."
"IS THAT CAPTAIN AMERICA? OH MY GOD THAT'S CAPTAIN AMERICA!" Twelve year-old Annie came running down the porch.
Steve gave her a friendly wave.
"DYLAN! ALEX! CAPTAIN AMERICA IS STANDING IN OUR FRONT YARD!" she yelled as she stuck her head through the doorway.
Dylan, who was only six, and Alex, who was eleven, came sprinting down the porch as well.
"Hey there, little buddy," Steve scooped Dylan up into his arms and bounced him around. "How are you?"
"Alex here has fifteen figurines of you," Annie explained, counting off her fingers. "two of which he got from a Happy Meal. Also, he has two posters, his walls are painted navy and sky blue with red and white stripes going across the middle, he has a Captain America bedframe, bedsheets, and pillows, four T-shirts of you, three sweatshirts, one pair of sweatpants, five pairs of socks..."
"Wow...I'm honored," Steve laughed.
"It was expensive," Alex stated proudly. "But it was worth it. So you're really dating Y/N, right?"
"I sure am."
You smiled to yourself and let Laila down, taking her hand and leading her inside. "Come on, let's go. I bet the others are waiting."
Everyone else's reactions were the same upon meeting Steve. Your aunts, grandmother, and mom were wide-eyed at the fact that you were 'dating' the one and only Captain America, and him and your uncles immediately hit it off. He was happy to answer any questions that they had about his experiences in WWII.
"I'm sorry, my family is chaotic," you leaned over and whispered into Steve's ear.
"They're really welcoming. I like them," he placed a hand on your knee under the dinner table. "Dylan is so adorable."
"So," your father cleared his throat. "Steve. Is it dangerous, for Y/N to go on so many missions like this? Is she ever in danger while she is anywhere else?"
"Dad..." you warned. "I'm fine."
"I assure you, sir, that she is watched 24/7," Steve explained to him. "SHIELD is protecting her and we follow strict protocol to make sure each and every one of our team members stays safe."
"Have you guys kissed yet?" Laila piped up.
Your face turned bright red at her question.
"Most likely," Caleb answered for her, smirking at you. You kicked his shin under the table and he winced. "Ow! Probably."
"Can I get a picture with you?" Alex asked.
"After dinner, honey," your aunt told him.
"They're so adorable," Steve whispered, gently squeezing your hand and grinning at you.
Oh, that heart-melting-----
What?
Shit. you mentally cursed yourself.
NO.
This is fake. This isn't real. My feelings aren't real. We aren't actually dating.
Right?
Right.
"I know," you smiled. "Although I sometimes question Laila's knowledge on certain topics."
...
It was now after dinner, and you were playing outside with all the kids, throwing a football back and forth. Laila still kept asking questions about the two of you, many of which touched base on the subject of kissing.
"This girl..." you shook your head in disbelief
"Y/N! Go long!" Steve jumped up and threw the football towards you, and you ran back across the field, catching it perfectly with just one hand.
"Nice job," he jogged up to you and quickly kissed your cheek, making you blush furiously.
"YAAAAAY! They kissed!" Laila giggled like a fangirl. "You guys are in love, right?"
"Yes, Laila," Steve beamed down at the little girl.
"Can you be my new uncle?"
"Oh my god, my heart," Steve clutched his chest and looked at you with adoration in his eyes, then turned back to Laila. "Maybe."
"Yay!"
"I ship it! My new OTP. Harmione is nothing to me now," Annie clapped her hands together.
