Arthur was waiting for the right time to meet Dutch and Sadie in order to witness and ensure the hanging of Colm O'Driscoll. Since he had some time to kill, Arthur decided to stop by the saloon.
When Arthur walked in to the saloon he saw a woman, you, wearing dark colours and leaning over the bar. You raised your hand as you ordered a drink happily. You smiled at the bartender as he placed the drink in front of you, and you fell down onto your seat again.
"Celebrating something?" Arthur asked you as he took a seat beside you, waving the bartender over to order his own drink. The saloon was pretty empty apart from the pair of you.
"Haven't you heard? Today is a great day. Today they are hanging Colm O'Driscoll" you turned to the man with a smile, holding your drink up to him before taking a sip from it.
"Huh...I'm actually in town for the same reason" the man nodded, making you place you drink down and raise an eyebrow at him.
"Well, you sure ain't an O'Driscoll so I assume you are here to enjoy the show?" you asked, Colm had ruined the lives of so many people and you assumed that this man was just another poor soul that Colm O'Driscoll ruined the life of. You couldn't help but think that this man looked familiar though, like you had seen him somewhere.
"I'm here to make sure it happens" he explained and that perked your interest.
"It seems we have the same motive to be in Saint Denis...I wanted to get to him before he even makes it to the gallows...but those damn lawmen have him under watch" you grumbled, you had wanted to be the one who killed Colm O'Driscoll but this would have to do.
"So...it's personal?" the man asked as he sipped from his own drink.
"You could say that" you shrugged, looking up at the man.
"What did he do to you?" he asked, not surprised that Colm had made many enemies.
"Killed my parents. The bastard didn't even want to get his hands dirty so he sent men to do it for him. I've dealt with the men who did the killing but I'm going to watch Colm swing if it's the last thing I do" you told him, still not being able to shake the feeling of having seen him somewhere before. Maybe you got some information from him in the past?
"Well, I think you need another drink. I'm Arthur, by the way" the man finally introduced himself and you paused.
Now you remembered him. You hadn't spoken to him before but you did try to get some information from him. He ran with that gang you were watching in order to find Colm.
"Arthur...Morgan, right?" you asked, fully turning your body to him as you recalled his name.
"How did you know that?" he asked, furrowing his brow at you.
"You run with the Van der Linde gang, right?" you asked. You had been tracking the O'Driscolls so of course you had encountered the Van der Linde gang in one way or another.
"Yeah..." he nodded and you could see that he was getting uncomfortable, not knowing what to think of you.
"Don't worry, I haven't got anything against any of you. I've been tracking Colm O'Driscoll for far too long, and you lot are practically rivals so it was only a matter of time before I learnt about you all" you shrugged, in your world it only made sense that you knew about them all. It's your job.
"So, you know all of us?" Arthur asked curiously.
"Yeah, pretty much...I'm sorry about your friends" you smiled sympathetically, you knew about the men that they had lost along the way.
"...thanks...have you been watching us or something?" he asked another question, wanting to know exactly how much you knew. Actually, he was a little curious about how nobody had noticed you.
"...a little...only to find out information about the O'Driscolls. I lost them for a while and figured that one of you might know where he is" you explained, assuring him that you only took the information that you needed before leaving them alone.
"That's kinda...creepy" Arthur chastised but you saw the small smile tugging at his lips.
"It's what I do" you shrugged with a smile of your own, taking another sip of your drink.
"What do you mean by that?" he asked, seeming less concerned now and just genuinely curious instead.
"People pay me to do their dirty work, to get rid of people mostly. Been pretty preoccupied recently though" you told him. You hadn't been working much since you had been focused on Colm.
"You're a hit man...hit woman?" Arthur asked, and you laughed softly as he tried to figure out what to refer you as.
"I prefer the term Assassin, has a little more mystery to it" you chuckled.
"Why did it take you so long to find Colm?" he asked and it was a sensible question. If you were good at your job, why would it take you so long to get to one man?
"He isn't an easy man to find, he knew I was after him, and those loyal morons of his kept getting in the way" you told him, it wasn't like you were looking for a random man, it was a gang leader. They were always harder to deal with.
"We are in town to make sure that he swings, since his men are going to try to get him out of this" Arthur nodded, knowing that Colm and his men could be difficult. Colm had been sentence to death countless times by now but always got away somehow.
"Not on my watch, Mr Morgan" you smirked, there was noway you were letting them leave. If Colm escaped the gallows, he wouldn't escape you.
"Not on ours either, Miss...?" Arthur replied but realised that he still didn't know your name.
"Y/N L/N, it's a pleasure" you smiled as you held your hand out for him to shake.
"That it is" Arthur smiled back as he shook your hand.
The pair of you sat and talked for a while, he explained the plan that he and his friends had come up with. After that you were both left with nothing to talk about, since you had both used up all of your Colm O'Driscoll material. So, instead, you started talking about yourselves, learning a little about the other. There was definitely some sort of connection here, talking to each other was just easy.
Unfortunately the saloon doors burst open and a ground of O'Driscolls walked in, laughing and talking loudly. You and Arthur both rolled your eyes but kept your heads down, hoping not to have any encounter with them.
One of the O'Driscolls, followed by the others, walked towards you. You hoped that they just wanted to order a drink but you weren't that lucky. The O'Driscoll leaned on the bar, looking at you with a smirk. He introduced himself and offered to buy you a drink, you just scoffed and declined his offer.
You kept turning him down but the others began to encourage the pair of you, you could see Arthur's hand tightening around his glass.
"I'm not interested" you snarled one more time but they weren't interested in what you had to say.
The O'Driscoll that was leaning on the bar, shifted closer and placed his hand on your hip. Arthur flinched slightly as you shot out of your seat. You grabbed the O'Driscoll's wrist and twisted his arm, making him grunt in pain.
Of course, the other O'Driscolls jumped to his rescue. You managed to elbow one of the others in the nose, making him grunt and reach up to his bleeding nose.
Arthur was fast to act, grabbing one of them by the collar and delivering a punch to his face. You sent Arthur a quick smile before you both began to handle the O'Driscolls. The bartender saw the fight going on and decided it would be best not to get involved, so he just disappeared into a back room.
You and Arthur seemed to work well together as you fought off the O'Driscolls, watching each other's backs.
Arthur caught his breath as he looked around and saw all of the O'Driscolls laying on the floor, either unconscious or just groaning in pain. He looked up and opened his mouth to ask you a question but there was no sign of you, you were just gone. Maybe you were right about being more mysterious?
Checking the time, Arthur realised that he had to meet Sadie and Dutch so he rushed off to find them.
-----
Arthur met with Dutch and Sadie, where Dutch told him that he had disguises planned for them, much to Arthur's annoyance. Once they changed, they made their way to where they were hanging Colm.
The trio waited just outside of the crowd that was waiting to see the criminal hang, that was when Arthur saw you waiting among the crown of civilians.
You felt eyes on you, making you turn to see who it was. In your line of work, you learn to sense when you are being watched. You saw Arthur standing with a man and a woman, who you recognised as Dutch Van der Linde and Sadie Adler.
An amused smile appeared on your face as you took in the sight of his disguise, you couldn't help but think it was a little funny. And Arthur couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head at you. This earned him a confused look from Dutch but he just shrugged it off. The pair of you returned your attention to watching the crowd.
You frowned then you noticed a pair of O'Driscolls among the crowd but, before you could do anything, they walked away and you saw Arthur following them. Hopefully he would deal with them.
"Fair citizens of Saint Denis. For as long as any of us can remember, it is justice that separates us from barbary. Yet justice itself can at times be barbaric. For sometimes a man is so savage, the only way to deal with him justly is by savagery. Colm O'Driscoll is one such man" a man standing by the gallows began to speak as Colm O'Driscoll was marched up the steps. Annoying the pair of O'Driscolls had returned but Arthur hadn't, you hoped that they hadn't done anything to him.
The lawmen pushed Colm along the gallows and wrapped the noose around his neck. "He has murdered, tortured, robbed, stolen, raped, and abused for a decade across five states. Seemingly with impunity. Today, justice catches up with him" the man from before announced.
"As well you may" Colm laughs and it infuriated you that he had the audacity to laugh right now. "I've been a bad man-" he tried to speak but he was interrupted by the lawmen gagging him, you had never been so glad that somebody shut up before. You were getting impatient.
You heard a slight commotion and turned to see the man and woman, that Arthur was with, dealing with the O'Driscolls in the crowd. Sadie held a knife to one of their throats while Dutch held a gun to the head of the other.
You saw the panic drop over Colm's face when he realised that he wasn't getting away this time, it was sick but you couldn't help but smile about it. Now he knew what it was like to feel hopeless.
Finally, Colm O'Driscoll hung for his crimes. You stood among the crowd, a content smile on your face. Obviously you weren't squeamish about death but this was the first time that you actually took pleasure in seeing it.
You turned around when Sadie killed the two O'Driscolls that where in the crowd. You looked up and saw a man standing on the roof of the building across the street, holding a sniper rifle in his hands. You smirked a little to yourself when you realised that it was Arthur.
Arthur spotted you through the sight of his rifle, seeing you wave a folded piece of paper in front of your face while looking straight up at him. He furrowed his brow as he watched you purposely place it down on a bench.
You smiled, sending him a single wave and a playful wink before disappearing among the chaos.
Arthur watched you duck away through the sight of the rifle, he saw you manoeuvre expertly through the crowd, even taking out a remaining O'Driscoll before just disappearing. He saw you step behind the wall but then he lost sight of you, he looked for all the logical ways you could've gone but you where nowhere to be found.
After the gunfight had ended and Sadie and Dutch escaped to safety, Arthur hung around Saint Denis but there was no sign of you. You sure were good at disappearing, maybe Assassin was more fitting than Hit woman.
Remembering the folded piece of paper he saw you with, Arthur headed towards the bench that you had placed it down on. As fate would have it, that piece of paper was sitting on the bench, untouched.
Arthur picked the paper up and unfolded it, reading the short note you had left him.
"I owe you. If you ever need a job done, find me"
Arthur smiled to himself and tucked the note into his pocket before deciding to return to the gang. The note was pointless, there was noway he would even be able to find you even if he went looking. He wasn't probably never going to see you again...right?
