Word Count: 1800
You sat in the saloon with a glass in your hand. The afternoon was getting late and Arthur Morgan still hadn't showed up. Maybe you were getting your hopes up, he probably wasn't going to show up because he probably wasn't interested in you. You sighed, giving up on seeing the cowboy again, why did you have to go and like an outlaw? It was stupid. But you decided to finish your drink before heading home.
You tipped back your glass and placed it down on the bar before turning to stand up. "Sorry I'm late" Arthur's voice rang through your ears as you looked up at him, a slightly surprised expression on your face.
"Oh...it's okay, do you want a drink?" you asked with a smile as you turned back to face the bar. You definitely weren't leaving now.
"I would love one" Arthur smiled as he sat down beside you. He insisted on paying the bartender for the drinks and you let him, laughing slightly to yourself. What a gentleman.
"How is Beau? Penelope told me that he tried to speak with his cousins" you asked him, trying to make some casual conversation. The atmosphere was a little different now that you were having a friendly drink instead of leading a women's march and then being saved from Beau's moron cousins.
"Yeah, he tried to talk to them but I got him away. He is fine but I haven't seen him since yesterday" Arthur told you with a small shrug.
"Let me guess, he paid you so your job is done?" you asked, recalling what Arthur had told you. Something along the lines of him 'just doing a job'.
"Exactly, you learn quick" Arthur chuckled slightly as he looked at you.
"I know" you smirked, holding your glass up towards him.
Arthur clinked his glass against yours before you both took a drink. The pair of you shared a few drinks, enjoying casual but pleasant conversation. You would admit to yourself that the alcohol was helping you gain a little confidence. It's not like you thought that Arthur was any sort of real threat to you but he still had you a little nervous, you just weren't completely sure if it was because he is an outlaw or if it was something else.
After a few drinks, the both of you were a little tipsy. You were both definitely more relaxed than before.
"Alright Arthur, tell me something. Anything...a story from your time as an outlaw" you smiled, leaning on the bar and looking up at him expectantly.
"Ah, you don't want to hear any of that" Arthur shook his head, turning his attention to his glass instead of you.
"Yes I do. Please?" you pouted teasingly but he didn't seem to change his mind. "Oh Arthur, I have lived such a sheltered life, please tell me a story from your life living outside of the law" you pleaded in a playfully dramatic way, making Arthur laugh to himself as he looked down into his glass.
"Fine, fine....let me think" he hummed and you smiled at him, knowing that you had won.
Arthur eventually remembered a story that he could tell you, that wasn't too bad or too graphic but might entertain you. Actually, he ended up telling you multiple stories and he even told you about some members of the gang he runs with. Arthur had only decided to tell you so much before you seemed so interested in his stories, and he loved the way that you were looking at him, laughing along with his anecdotes, and asking questions about his life.
"Must be so exciting" you thought out loud, resting your chin on your hand as you tilted your head at him.
"I wouldn't call it exciting but it's never boring" Arthur shrugged, taking a sip of his drink.
"Dangerous..." you hummed, letting your gaze wander over his face. You took in his rugged appearance, sure he was a little rough around the edges since he was an outlaw but he was definitely handsome. His face was a little hardened from his life but his eyes were so soft.
"Oh, definitely" Arthur nodded, looking across to you. Both of you noticed the change in atmosphere, not sure what the change was but it was definitely there.
Both of you ordered a few more drinks and drank a little more, the pair of you definitely edging towards drunk now.
"So, what's the most 'outlaw-ish' thing you've ever done? I bet you've never done anything wrong in your life" Arthur asked, a look of amusement on his face. You only laughed to yourself, he already knew that you hadn't broken law before, not like him anyway.
"You'll laugh at me" you groaned, hiding your face in your hands and shaking your head as you laughed softly to yourself.
"I won't, I promise" he said but there was already a smile on his face as he turned his body to face you.
"I stole a horse but it was my father's horse so I don't think it counts as stealing" you laughed at how juvenile the whole thing was.
"No, that doesn't count at all" Arthur laughed as he shook his head.
"See! You're laughing at me" you exclaimed with your own laugh.
"I'm not laughing" he lied as he continued to laugh, he wasn't even trying to hide it.
"And now you are lying" you shook your head, trying to seem disapproving but you were still laughing along with him.
"I wouldn't lie to you" Arthur told you as his laughing began to die down.
"Another lie" you laughed again.
"It's not" Arthur assured you, his voice more serious than before. Your laughter faded away as you looked at him, watching him take a sip of his drink.
You both smiled gently at each other before ordering another drink. You both shared one more drink before Arthur spoke up again.
"Why are you here?" Arthur asked and you noticed how his voice was now strangely sombre.
"Excuse me?" you asked with a small frown. You had both been getting along so well, some sort of connection between you both was more than obvious.
"Where are you here, drinking with me?" he asked, rewording his question, but you were still a little taken back by his question and change in demeanour.
"I like your company" you shrugged, not really sure how to answer his question.
"You only met me yesterday" Arthur reminded you as if that was suppose to change your mind about something.
"But I already know that you aren't a bad man. You helped us yesterday and you helped me. I like ya, Arthur" you admitted, a light blush staining your cheeks as you looked down at the bar.
There was a short pause before Arthur responded, he was surprised by your confession but not displeased by it in anyway. "Y'know what we said about men bein' foolish?" he asked and you nodded as you looked up at him again, recalling the conversation from yesterday. "Well, men can be foolish but sometimes it's women that make us that way" he informed you and you attempted to decode what he was trying to say to you.
"I'm sure it's all our fault" you smirked slightly as you lent towards him, resting your body against the bar.
"Completely..." Arthur practically whispered as he placed his hand on your knee. You looked at his hand, his thumb brushing against that material of your skirt, as you bit your lip slightly. You wondered what he was thinking, in fact you were wondering what you were thinking yourself.
You both looked at each other, meeting each other's gaze as you paused, trying to read each other's minds. You placed your hand on his, the one that was still on your knee, before running your hand up his arm. You fingertips brushing against his bare forearm before reaching the material of his shirt sleeve.
Arthur cleared his throat as he pulled his hand away from your knee, resting it on the bar again as he turned his attention back to the drink in his other hand. He knew that he shouldn't do anything, you deserved better and you had both been drinking quite a bit. It would be wrong, wouldn't it?
"Arthur" you said his name softly, as you gently grabbed his arm and turned him to face you. "Come on" you encouraged as you stood up, gently pulling him from his seat and getting him to stand up. You knew that Arthur could have stopped you but he didn't.
"Nah, Y/N...you should get home...I should probably be getting back to the camp anyway, people might start asking where I was" Arthur argued but still continued to follow you out of the saloon with no hesitation.
"Then tell them" you shrugged as you guided him out of the saloon. Arthur followed you, his hand in yours.
You giggled as you both rounded the corner, stepping into the dim alley down the side of the saloon. Your back pressed gently against the wall as Arthur stepped closer to you, his hands landing on your waist. Your arms wrapped loosely around his neck to pull him a little closer, making him chuckle lightly.
"You sure?" Arthur asked gently as he shifted closer, close enough so that you could feeling the body heat coming from him.
"Just kiss me already, Arthur" you breathed out, you had practically been waiting for this moment since you laid eyes on him.
And Arthur does just that, he presses his lips against yours, bringing his body closer so that your chest was pressed against his. The kiss seemed to sober you both up somehow.
The kiss started off hesitant and soft, simply testing the waters. But it slowly became deeper as you pulled each other closer. Arthur's hands gripped at your waist, pulling you as close as he could and holding you against him. Your arms wrapped around his neck, one hand finding itself buried in his hair.
Arthur's body pinned you to the wall, your bodies moulded together perfectly. Neither of you cared about anyone walking past or seeing you, and neither of you wanted to pull away from each other.
You both pulled away from the kiss, Arthur's forehead resting against yours. The kiss had left you breathless, attempting to catch your breath as you looked up into those gorgeous eyes of his.
"Are you drunk?" Arthur asked, scanning your face carefully. You smiled at his concern, like he wasn't just pushing you up against a wall seconds earlier.
"Not anymore" you shook your head, running your fingers through his hair.
"Good" Arthur nodded with a small smile before he ducked hid head back down and kissed you again.
Arthur wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you against him once again.
