Hannah POV
"You're insane lady, my mother died before she could make it here." I said has I backed away from her.
"If you really believed that then why would you try so hard to find me? Why would you come back here if you weren't looking for me?" The worker said.
"It's impossible." I said.
"My name is Renee Marie Smith, I was married to Donald Smith and together we gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Hannah Marie Smith. I wanted you to have my middle name just so I could always be apart of you in some way. It's really me Hannah." Renee said.
"That's what I'm afraid of, I'm afraid that it's really you. If it's really you then that means that you never came back for me, that you left me alone on a world filled with giants and no one like me. I love my family, but do you know what it's like to live with people that you are scared of? Why wouldn't you come back and find me?" I asked.
"Because I wouldn't have been able to transition into this world, you needed to be with people that could truly take care of you and give you what you deserve. Look where I'm at, look how I'm living, you don't deserve this life, you deserve so much more. Leaving you was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life, but I did it because I love you." Renee said.
"You were my mother, I prayed to you when things got hard and you've been here the entire time. I was so young when I came here, because not only was I living with giants but I was grieving the death of my mother." I said with the tears brimming my eyes.
"Hannah, I know you're mad at me and I know you might not forgive me now, but one day I hope you'll be able to realize that I did what I thought was best for you. I believe I made the right choice because you turned out so amazing and you're vacationing at this resort instead of working at it. I really do only want the best for you and I knew I couldn't give it to you." Renee said.
Before I could respond the intercom went off, "Hannah Clark needs to report to the front office please." A man's voice rang through the intercom, causing both Renee and I to look at the ceiling and then back at each other.
"I think it's time that you get back to your family. They must be worried sick about you. Come on, I'll lead you back up." Renee said and she opened the door to her room.
She directed for me to go out and I did. We walked down the hallway and has she walked in front of me, I could see where we looked so much alike. Everyone growing up said that there was no way she could deny me because we looked so much alike, and has I followed her with the same dark brown hair and the same blue eyes.
We reached the door and I stopped in my tracks. Renee noticed and faced me before opening the door to the lobby. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Just answer one question for me." I said.
"Okay, what is it?" She asked.
"If I never found you here, would you have ever tried to get in touch with me?" I asked.
Renee took a deep breath and stepped closer to me. "I always wanted to but I just wasn't sure if I would be helping or hurting. I figured you had moved on and you were living your life, I didn't want to mess that up. I can't say for sure if I would or not. But one thing never changed and never will change." She said.
"What?" I asked.
"That I love you and I just want you to be happy. So, let's get you out there and back with your family." Renee said has she turned around and opened the door for me.
I walked through the door I saw my entire family gathered around the front desk, all in there pajamas and looking very scared.
"Page again! She is around here somewhere and if she doesn't come then someone might have kidnapped her!" Linda yelled.
"I'm fine!" I yelled so they could hear me and they all looked up at me on the high rise walkway.
"Thank god." They all said and looked relieved has we walked down towards the front desk.
"Why did you leave?" Lucas asked.
I looked back at Renee and she looked very uncomfortable, I didn't think she would want me to share that she was my biological mother.
"I just had to clear my head and wandered to the wrong part of the resort, I just got a little lost." I said has I looked back up to my family.
"Well we should all get to bed, we have a wedding to get ready for tomorrow." Linda said has she looked to Josh.
"Yeah, we should all head back. Do you want some help?" Mark asked.
"Umm..." I looked between my family and Renee but Josh spoke up.
"You guys go ahead, I'll bring Hannah up." Josh smiled.
"Okay, we'll see you up there." Mark said and guided the family towards the elevator.
"You can say your goodbye and then I'll take you up." Josh smiled.
"Wait, you know?" Renee asked.
"You two look exactly alike, not to mention how weird you've been acting." Josh said has he looked at me.
I turned around and face Renee, having no idea of how I was supposed to act in all of this. "I guess this is it." I said.
Renee walked up and wrapped her arms around me, pulling me in and I could hear her heart beating in her chest. "You are better then I could've ever imagined. You are greater then I ever dreamed, I'm so proud of you. I love you baby, I'm so glad you have an amazing family that loves you just like I do." Renee said has she kissed the top of my head.
She started to pull away and I tightened my arms to keep her close. I didn't want her to go, I just found her but Renee still pulled away.
"You need to go back now. It's going to be okay." Renee said has she nudged me over to Josh, who now has his hand laying on the desk.
"But, there's much left here. How am I supposed to just leave?" I asked, not even realizing that it was being said out loud.
"Because I am the woman who gave birth to you, and you feel that connection with me but I'm not the one who has raised you for most of your life. When I saw this family, I knew that they were going to take such good care of you and they have. They have fought for you and made sure that you were loved. I love you and this is everything that I wanted for you, and now it's time to get back to it. I mean, it sounds like there's a wedding to get ready for right?" Renee asked has she looked up to Josh.
"Getting married tomorrow." Josh said.
"So it sounds like you all need to really need to get some sleep for such a big day. After that you'll travel back home and life will go back to normal for you, everything will go back to the way it's supposed to be." Renee said.
"The way it's supposed to be? What does that even mean?" I said has I felt the mixture of sadness and anger welling up inside of me.
"It means that you go back to the life that you deserve, with the people that care about you. The people that have done everything for you and have given you the life that I could only dream of." Renee said.
I turned away from her and walked over to Josh's hand, slowly climbing on and sitting in the middle of his palm like I normally do but trying to avoid Renee's gaze. After a moment, Josh started to raise his hand but stopped when I gathered the courage to say one last thing.
"My family stepped up for me, went above and beyond for me, because of the void you left. I mourned you. I cried over the dead mother I grew up knowing, but today has I'm looking at you, the woman I mourned is dead and the woman in front of me is a stranger. Once I have kids, I will never abandon them the way you abandoned me." I said, fighting the tears that were trying to come from my eyes.
"But...but...Hannah..." Renee started but I held my hand up to stop her.
"I don't want to hear anything else. I said what I had to say and that's it." I said and looked up to Josh. "Can we please go?"
"Are you sure?" Josh asked, giving me one last chance to take back what I said.
I looked back to Renee, seeing the blue eyes that matched mine and thinking about how much time I've spent wondering about her. This whole time I've wanted to know her but right now the only thing I want is to go back to the time where I didn't know that she was alive. I want to go back to when I knew that she didn't abandon me.
"I'm sure." I said and Josh nodded his head.
The minute the words left my mouth, tears fell from Renee's eyes and Josh walked away. I could feel myself wanting to cry, but I was to stubborn for that. I wanted to be strong enough to not let this bother me, at least to try.
"You okay Hannah?" Josh asked.
"No, not even a little."
