The Following Day
I sigh and massage my temples, "He says that and then he always gets injured. Hopefully nothing serious will happen this time." Key word. Hopefully.
Finley calls it my "Mother Hen Sense". I often get impressions or feelings that warn me when someone I know is in trouble or if they're doing something they shouldn't. He hated it when we were younger because I always knew when he was up to something. I ruined several of his plans. And right now I feel like something bad is going to happen tonight to Sherlock. No matter how much he could try to tell me otherwise. It's a gut feeling that just won't go away.
"That boyfriend of yours playing hero again?" Finley asks. I nod.
"Yep. The suspect just added homicide to their list of charges. Sherlock's going to try and catch them tonight. And he isn't playing hero, he's playing detective. If he heard you say that he'd tell you otherwise too."
"Worried much, sis?"
"Yeah..."
Finley sets down his paintbrushes and walks over to me, where I'm sitting at his computer looking at images of turtles. He squeezes my shoulder, "Mother Hen Sense again?"
"Yep."
"Hey, I bet it'll be just fine. It might only be that the criminal gets the upper hand for a short while."
I look up at him, "But he said-"
"That you could be in danger because of his allegedly returned nemesis and that you had to stay here for the time being?"
"I chose to stay here. He didn't say anything about it, Finn. But yes, he did say I could be in danger."
Finley hums, "I think he'll be fine. And so will you. If there's anything I've learned about that brunette detective it's that he won't allow you to so much as get a paper cut."
"I wouldn't go that far, but he does try as best he can to keep me from harm." I smile just thinking about him.
"See? There you go. Just let him play hero and then you can help him recover from whatever injuries he incurs later. How about a round of Just Dance?"
I grin, "You're on, brother!"
Later that Night
My mobile buzzes and I blink awake, sitting up on the couch to grab it. It's Sherlock.
I rub my eyes and reach for my glasses, getting off the couch and heading for the bathroom to change and freshen up a bit.
What happened?
"Finley!?" I call into his bedroom.
"Mmrf, yeah..?"
"I've got to go."
"What..? Why?!" I hear him shuffling around, "It's nearly midnight!"
"It's Sherlock. He needs me and I think something's horribly wrong."
He pauses, "Very well. Go help your boyfriend and be safe."
"Will do."
