After the house tour, you and Matt sit down in the dining room with your mom. You sit in your normal spot next to your mom and have Matt sit where your brother would normally, if he were home. Your mom grabs your hand and reaches to grab Matt's. Matt was confused but followed after you. He grabbed your mom's hand. You then hesitantly grab Matt's hand and look at him from the corner of your eyes. Your mother bows her head and says grace for the food.
Mom: "Amen."
Y/N: "Amen."
Matt: "Amen."
You all begin to pass the food around the table. Mom had made your favorite dinner (insert favorite foods). You described what was on the table to Matt and watched as he served himself. You passed him a bowl and your fingers touched, but instead of instantly pulling away you both looked into each others eyes and you felt your breath catch. You slowly pulled your hand away as he took the bowl and looked away.
Your mother had also set the table with water at every place setting. This woman knew how to be a hostess.
Mom: "So Matt. What do you think of the house?"
Matt: "It is absolutely stunning Mrs. Y/L/N. Everything looks like it came straight from the best designers in a magazine. I've never seen such a beautiful home."
Your mother took this with great pride. She loved her home and the ability to entertain within it.
Mom: "Thank you very much. Now I'm curious, what brings you this way?"
Matt recounts his stories from earlier, explaining his acting career. You all were finished eating, but continued to talk.
Matt: "Thank you so much for the food Mrs. Y/L/N, I don't know when I had a homemade meal last."
Mom: "I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it. I thank you for the compliment."
You hear Cody start to whimper at the front door and knew that your father was home.
You look at Matt with a sparkle in your eye. "Dad's home." You stand up, not bothering to push your chair in after you and sprint to the door. You reach it as he is stepping inside.
Dad: "There's my girl. Hi sweet heart."
He hugs you tightly and kisses your forehead and then your cheek. "You look breathtaking."
Y/N: "Dad I'm literally in a t shirt and jeans."
Dad: "I don't care. You still look ravishing." His demeanor changes quickly and he whispers, "Where is this young man your mother has spent the last hour texting me about?"
You look up and blush a little, you point to the kitchen.
Your dad notices the color in your cheeks and grabbing your hand and walking with you to the dining room.
Matt stands up as your dad enters the room. Your dad holds out his hand and says, "Pleased to meet you son, Y/D/N."
Matt moves around the hand extended to him and hugs your dad. "Sir I hear you are all huggers, so am I."
Your dad chuckles and hugs him back slapping his back. Matt pulls away and says, "I'm Matt Daddario."
Your dad looks at your mom and you, then back at Matt, "I already like him." He says slapping Matt on the shoulder.
Suddenly you remember when you had brought your last boyfriend back home to your parents two years ago. They pulled you into the living room after the boy had taken a phone call outside, they both told you that they didn't feel right about him. Of course, now you bring in a complete stranger and your parents adore him.
Dad: "Honey, is everything ok?" He was looking at you.
Y/N: "Yes. I'm fine. Just thinking." You sit back down as your mom serves your dad his dinner.
You all sit around the table and chat about anything and everything. You are itching to take Cody out for a walk and he must have sensed that because he brought you his leash laying it in your hands on your lap.
You look down and giggle. You hold up the leash and everyone else starts to smile and chuckle.
Y/N: "Cody do you want to go on a walk?"
Cody wags his tail and whimpers.
Y/N: "I'm going to walk Cody down to the river, anyone want to join?"
Matt looked ready to say something, but your mother jumped in.
Mom: "I'll go with you. Let me clean dinner up first."
Dad: "No babe, go on ahead Matt and I will clean up. Don't leave Cody waiting. He's already made it known he needs to go outside."
Your mom hops up from the table to change into yoga pants and a t-shirt. You shoot Matt a 😬 face and walk to the front door to put on your tennis shoes.
You grab your phone and leash up Cody. You glance once again at Matt who is already back into a conversation with your dad about his career. You smile and open the door for Cody to go out before you. You sit on the porch and wait for your mother.
.... Time Skip....
At the river, you start to walk the familiar trail along it's banks with Cody. Every now and then picking up a rock and hurling it into the water. Your mom has been particularly quiet and you have been too lost in thought to notice.
She looks at you. Sighing before she speaks. "You like him?"
You jump a little at the sudden intrusion of sound. "Hmmm?"
Mom: "Do you like Matt?"
Y/N: "I mean yeah. He's alright." You say looking away. You knew your mother knew you were developing feelings for him.
Mom: Grabbing your shoulder and pushing so that you face her. "Honey. I know that you are infatuated with Matt, I could see it in your eyes at dinner."
Y/N: "Mom, Matt is great, but he's a little older than I would like to date and we just met. Things like this don't happen, they are truly too good to be true."
Mom: "Sweetie, age is but a number you will be 24 soon and Matt mentioned that he is 30. Don't be afraid to go after him."
You were shocked at what your mother had just said. Normally she's the one saying to wait for him to pursue you. She must really like this guy.
Y/N: "Mom, what if he doesn't like me back and I make a fool of myself?"
Mom: "But what if he does and you don't try? Listen, sweetie, I saw the way he watched you at dinner, he looks at you with adoration and a sparkle in his eye."
You continue to walk, now on the way back home. You had a lot to think about.
....Time Skip....
You walk into the house and hear your dad talking in the family room. You walk in and see your dad sitting on the couch with a scrapbook opened talking about old military days. Matt was watching in pure wonder.
Your father was a story teller to beat all story tellers. He could talk about anything and catch your attention within seconds.
You sit down in a chair, listening to your dad talk about life years ago.
.... Time skip....
Your dad and mom had went into town to get a few groceries. Your dad refused to let your mom go by herself, mainly because he wanted to help her lift things, but partially because he liked to sneak sweets into the cart to buy.
You and Matt had decided to watch a few episodes of The Office U.S until they got back. You both went downstairs to the theater and you pulled up Netflix. You clicked onto the fourth season and turned the surround sound on. Matt sat in a recliner next to yours and you grabbed a few blankets. Cody came and snuggled in your lap.
Matt: "Y/N I really like this."
You look over at him and he was staring at the screen. You thought he was talking about the episode.
Y/N: "Yeah I really like this episode too."
He laughed and looked at you. "No. I mean I like this." He says gesturing to the room. "I like your house, dog, parents, and I especially like this girl named Y/N."
Y/N: "She must be one lucky girl to have caught your attention." You say winking.
Since when do you flirt? You barely know this guy. But now seemed like your chance to tell Matt how you felt.
You began to say something when Matt reached across and grabbed your hand. Cody then shifted and sat up breaking your hands and licking your face.
Matt started to belly laugh, making you laugh as well. Cherishing the sound. You shove Cody off of the recliner as you said, "Jealous much?"
Matt grabs your hand again and you sit like this watching the Office. He would every now and then rub your hand with his thumb, sending tingles down your spine. What was this man doing to you?
