Photo above is NOT mine. It going to it's rightful owner which...I don't know who that is but it's not mine. But this is what Katiea looks like ((except green eyes instead of blue))~ <3

((Katiea POV))

I walked down the roads of the shire, dragging a large stick behind me towards my home. "Hello Katiea!" I heard numerous people say, I smiled and said hello. When I got home I was immediately sent to bathe by my mother.

After I finished I came out and flipped my long brown hair back and stood in front of the mirror in my room. I glared at all the bruises and scars scattered across my body all the way up to my neck left by my mother. I was not a bad child I assure you...never messy, rude or in trouble. She just hated me...and I never understood why. I flipped my hair back and forth once more, dressed then went into the living room then sat down in a chair by the fireplace. "Why did you come back?" My mother asked in an annoyed tone from the kitchen. I sighed..."um...I live here?" I said before flipping myself to sit upside down in the chair." You know what your asking for with that tone!" My mother yelled. I winced at her rough voice. "Mom, I know you don't like me here but why won't you let me leave and be on my own??!" I groaned. "Well where would I send you? Nobody would want you. Your useless." I frowned and looked at the fire. "I don't think I'm useless..." I whispered. "Well, here's something to make yourself a little useful, take these to Bilbo Baggins up the road, there the muffins he asked for." I smiled and nodded taking the basket and throwing on a shirt that covered my whole arm and threw a scarf around my neck, hiding the bruise I got from when I accidentally tracked mud on the carpet and angered my mother. "I'll be back~" I chimed before walking out into the brisk night air. I loved Mr. Baggins, he was funny and always invited me to go fishing or have tea...I felt more of family to him than to my own mom. I trudged up the road and found his hobbit hole, it was beautiful, really was. I knocked and waited. Then I heard a lot of noise then the door opened. I was expecting Mr. Baggins...this was not Mr. Baggins...this was not a hobbit at all, it wad a dwarf! "Hello lass!" He said with a smiled. I grinned and looked him over. He had a beard and a very cool hat. He seemed like a nice person. "Hello, is Mr. Baggins home?" I asked. He nodded and gestured for me to come in. I looked around and saw about eleven more dwarves. I couldn't help but laugh at what they where doing. Running a muck. I soon found Mr. Baggins. "Excuse me! Mr. Baggins!" I said gaining his attention. "Katiea?! What are you doing here??" He said in a panicked but polite tone. "My mother asked me to bring by the muffins you asked for! Their fresh." I was suddenly scooped up into someone's arms. "Agh!! Put me down!!" I yelled out of pain feeling the persons arms putting immense pressure on my bruises. I squirmed trying to get out of my captures grasp. "The hobbit girl brought muffins!" He yelled, and held me up. All the dwarves cheered and I was sat down on the table. "You mine as well give the muffins to them. They'll eat them anyways!" Bilbo yelled before storming off. "Um...okay, you can have them. Save one for Mr. Baggins though! Please..." I said before setting the basket down on the table. I watched the Dwarves eat the muffins happily. "So, who are you?" One dwarf with a tattooed head asked. "I'm Katiea, I live just down the road from Mr. Baggins." They all nodded and then I noticed the two cute dwarves, the brunette smiled at me. "So how old are you?" He asked. "I'm 30. Almost 31, I'm 34 years younger than Mr. Baggins." They smiled. "Awe, your just a child... And your almost drinking age. At least...that's the drinking age to us." The dwarf next to the cute brunette said. I laughed and nodded. Soon after a short about of time I learned their names, they all rhymed....odd. I hopped off the table and went to find Mr. Baggins. I found him stomping around pointing out all of the things the dwarves ruined. "Excuse me, Mr. Baggins?" I said tapping on his shoulder. "Yes?" He said looking to me. "Who is this Bilbo?" A very tall old man said looking down at me. "This is Katiea, she lives down the road from me." The old man nodded and smiled. "I'm Gandalf, Gandalf the grey." I stared in awe...this was Gandalf?!?! The wizard I heard of who has amazing fireworks?!?! "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Gandalf!" I said with a wide smiled. He laughed "she's quite a cheery one. We should bring her along as well." I turned my head in confusion. "Bring me along where?" I asked. "We shall speak of it later." Gandalf said and I nodded and wandered else where. I suddenly heard Ori behind me speaking to Bilbo. "Excuse me, I hate to interrupt but what should I do with my plate?" I turned and saw Fili walking towards him. "Here Ori, give it to me." He said before throwing the plate in my direction. I screamed and dropped to the ground. I watched Fili continue to throw plates but I heard none crash. I turned around and saw his brother Kili catching them and throwing them elsewhere. I then heard pounding followed by Mr. Bilbo yelling. "Could you please not do that! You'll blunt them!" I couldn't quite hear what the dwarf was saying in response but then Kili started singing.

"Blunt the knives, bend the forks!" Then Fili

"Smash the bottles and burn the corks!" Then all of them

"Chip the glasses and crack the plates.....THATS WHAT BILBO BAGGINS HATES!"

I watched them all sing and throw dishes around from my spot on the floor. I was laughing so hard I could hardly breath. They where all finished and I wandered into the dining room to see all the dishes perfectly clean and stacked. All the dwarves where laughing at Bilbos face of pure shock. I giggled along with them until we heard three heavy knocks on the door. All the dwarves crowded the entree way to see who it was, well...I didn't know who it was. I got stuck at the back of the group though. Suddenly I felt a hand reach through and grab my own. I was pulled through the crowd of dwarves by Kili who smiled down at me. I thanked him for letting me stand at the front with him. The door opened and I saw another dwarf. He was taller than the others, except Mr. Dwalin. He had black hair with small streaks of grey and a black bears with a small braid in it. He had piercing blue eyes and I honestly felt a little scared of him but I couldn't help but be interested. "Gandalf..." He said. Oh my his voice is deep...now I'm more scared. "I thought you said this place would be easy to find, I lost my way twice. I wouldn't have found it at all if not for that mark on the door." He said. "There's no mark on that door it was painted a week ago!" Mr. Baggins yelled. "There is a mark I put it there myself. Bilbo I would like you to meet the leader of our company. Thorin Oakenshield." Thorin started to circle Mr. Baggins. "Tell me Mr. Baggins have you done much fighting?" He asked. "What??" Mr. Baggins asked. "Axe or sword? What is your weapon of choice?" Thorin asked. "Well...I have some skill at conkers, if you must know...but I fail to see...why that's relevant." Mr. Baggins said. "Thought as much. Seems more like a grocer than a burglar to me." Thorin said making all the dwarves laugh. "Hey! That's not very nice..." I said then immediately regretted it when Thorin looked at me. "And who are you?" He said coming closer to me. He towered over me. "I'm...uh....I'm....I... I don't know" I couldn't form anywords. Suddenly I heard Kili speak up. "This is Katiea. She's Bilbos neighbor." I nodded agreeing never taking my eyes off of Thorin. "Well what about you? Do you fight? Or do you not know the answer to that ether?" The dwarves laughed at me and I felt horrible and embaressed. "Actually....I do..." I said quietly. "What do you fight with?" Thorin asked giving me a look of doubt. "I-I can use a sword fairly well and I can use knives...and I'm currently teaching myself how to use a bow and arrow." Thorin looked away from me to Gandalf. "Why is she here? She's nothing but a weak child." Now I'm mad. "HEY! Just because I'm younger than you doesn't mean I'm weaker." Thorin turned and looked at me in amusement. "So your saying your stronger than me?" I looked away trying to think of an answer. "W-well...maybe....how would you know." I was suddenly lifted off the ground by my shirt and slammed into the wall harshly, his knuckles pressing into my collarbones. "Well! If your stronger than me then get yourself out of this." I kicked and flailed but it was obvious he was thousands times stronger than me. I felt tears threatening to spill. "Of course I'm not stronger than you!!!! What where you expecting?!?! Please!!!! Put me down!!" I yelled before I was gently set back on the ground. I felt tears stream down my face. "I'm sorry..." I whispered loud enough for him to hear. I could feel him looking at me but I kept my eyes on the ground. "I'm hungry." He said before he left the room. Bilbo stormed after Gandalf. The dwarves followed Thorin but Fili and Kili however stayed with me. "Hey....you alright?" Fili asked placing a hand on my back. I nodded and felt my collarbones and winced...like they weren't bruised enough already. "Does it hurt?" Kili asked. I nodded again, "I'm sorry....I don't know why I said that to him...he's scary...I wasn't even thinking" I said looking at Kili. He shook his head. "He stepped way out of line with what he did in my opinion." Fili nodded agreeing with his brother. "Yeah, but he's not a bad guy Katiea...he's been through a lot and he's here for a very important reason." I nodded and the brothers stood up, each holding a hand out to me. I took them both and pulled myself up. "Katiea? Would you come here for a moment." Gandalf said peeking his head out of a doorway. I nodded and turned thanking Kili and Fili again before leaving.

I entered the room and my heart stopped when Thorin was in there as well, along with Bilbo. "Take a seat." I ran and sat next to bilbo...more like hid behind him. Thorin glanced at me before smoking his pipe and blowing a large ring. "Katiea...we would like to ask you a question." Gandalf started as he sat down in his chair. "Yes?" I asked. "Well, I know how you crave adventure. I've seem you many times wandering the Shire." I nodded... "We would like to ask you...if you would like to come with us on this journey." My eyes widened. "Why...why would you want me to come." I asked. Thorin stood up and looked at me. "It is because, Mr. Baggins does not know how to fight but you said you did, so if we lose a burglar, we have a back up one. You." He said turning his back to me. "But I thought I was a weak child." I said coming out from behind Mr. Baggins. "You are." I sighed. "I'll have to ask my mother." I stated and Gandalf nodded while Thorin rolled his eyes. "Come back when you have an answer." Thorin said. "I'll be sure to Mr. Oakenshield." I said and grabbed my cloak walking about the door and back to my house.

I came in and looked at my mother who was sitting by the fire. "My, you've been gone a long time? Did Bilbo offer you tea?" I thought and nodded. "Mum....I have a question. Mr. Baggins invited me to go on a fishing trip with him! He says that we would be going across middle earth to all the great fishing spots. Can I go?" She gave me an odd look. "I would say that's odd but as a matter of fact I don't care.?" She said. "So I can go?" She sighed "how long will you be gone?" She asked. I shrugged. "Well walking across waddle earth takes quite some times I imagine a long time. Mom please...I need to get out of the shire and live my life! Even if that means just going fishing with Mr. Baggins!" My mother looked at me then glared shaking her head. "Fine. You may go." I laughed and tackled my mother with a hug. "Thank you mom..." I said quietly before running up to my room to pack clothes. I grabbed a bag and started stuffing it with shirts, pants and a coat. I wrapped up a blanket and buckled it on tightly. I ran back downstairs and stopped looking at my mother. "Mr. Baggins is leaving very early so he asked me to spend the night there." She hugged me tightly. "You know, I used to love you, then your father passed and I decided...you are not worth being loved, by anyone." She said. I looked up grinned before walking out the door and back up to Mr. Baggins house. As I was walking I felt tears well up in my eyes...I soon shook my head dismissing my mothers words then gave some thought, I don't even know where we're going of what we're doing. I shrugged. "I guess me not knowing adds onto the adventure I suppose." I said to myself before wiping my eyes and opening Mr. Baggins door.

I entered and found all the dwarves, Gandalf and Mr. Baggins crowded around the tabel. I set my bag down and went to join the group. However....given my small size it was impossible to see over any of them, even bilbo. I groaned in annoyance and leaned against the wall. "Psst, come here!!" I heard Kili whisper to me. I walked over and he patted on his lap. "Really?" I whispered causing his bother to quietly laugh. "It's ether this or not seeing at all." He said with a sexy smile. Damn....that smile....can't resist. I rolled my eyes and sat down on Kili's lap. Though they where near the end of the table, it was nice to be kind of in the group. I looked at Thorin who was looking over the piece of paper right in front of him. "All the door into Erebor are sealed! We'll never find a way in." Balin said. "That, is not entirely true." Gandalf said then pulled a key out of his cloak. "How came you by this?" Thorin said looking at the key. "It was given to my by your father." Thorin got a look of grief on his face. I leaned back onto Kili's chest, "did something happen to his father?" I asked. Kili sighed, " I'll tell you later." He said and I nodded looking back to Thorin...feeling an unknown connection with him.

I zoned out for a while not listening. I was brought back by the mention of my name. "We will give Katiea her contract when she returns. I raised my hand. "I've been here for the last twenty minutes actually." I said with a nervous laugh. "Well, did the child get her mothers approval?" Thorin said in a sarcastic tone making the dwarves laugh. "Yes...I did." I said shyly...scared of what would happen if I spoke out against him again. Thorin groaned and looked at Balin. "Give her the contract." Balin set the contract on the tabel which was way on the other end but there was no way I could reach past them to get it from the ground. I climbed on the table and walked towards the other end. Thorin gave me and odd look as I sat down on the table to read it. "Sorry...I'm too short to reach around any of you . He waved his hand and I started to read the contract.

"Funeral arrangements??" I said looking at Balin wide eyed. "Incineration?" I heard Mr. Baggins say. "What??" I said in shock. Bofur spoke up. "That would be a reference to Smaug the Terrible, greatest calamity of our age." I felt a little bit of a panic attack coming on. "You alright lass?" Balin asked me. I nodded and continued reading the contract. "Think furnace with wings." Bofur continued. My breath hitched, "flash of light, searing pain then poof! Your nothing more than a pile of ash!" I'm gonna throw up....no....I'm not....yep...I am. "I think I'm gonna be sick." I said before I jumped over Thorin off the table and ran outside. I threw up in the bushes out of panic.

**back inside**

"Poor lass, not surprised, that would be a little overwhelming for a child." Balin said. "Nice Bofur." Kili said. Bofur nodded and looked towards the door and sighed getting up to go check on Katiea.

Thorin leaned over to Gandalf "I can not guarantee their safety." Thorin whispered. "Understood." "Nor can I be responsible for their fate." Gandalf nodded.

**outside back to Katiea's POV**

I wiped my mouth and sat on the ground holding my face in my hands. "Are you alright?" I heard Bofur voice say behind me. "Yes...I'm fine...just...I don't know how to put how I'm feeling right now." He kneeled down on one knee next to me. "Would scared match?" I nodded. "That's understandable. Your only a child, I am sorry I scared you....with the dragon but it is dangerous...If it makes you feel better, your reaction was better than Bilbos...he fainted." I shook my head and laughed. "And throwing up is any better." I heard Bofur laughed slightly. "Well your still conscious." "True." I looked at the dwarf and sighed. "You know lass, after you left Thorin had a conversation with us about you." I turned my head. "What did he say? Get rid if the child as fast as possible." Bofur shook his head. "He told us, that if you where to come...we where to make sure you where heavily protected by all of us. He doesn't want to see you get hurt and he doesn't think of you as a child, your practically an adult from what Bilbo told us." My eyes widened. "I honestly think he hates me. That's my opinion." Bofur shook his head. "No, not at all. He's more frustrated at the thought of you getting hurt...your young and have not seen what this world can hold." I nodded... "Then why would he have me come if he's so worried about me?" I asked looking back at the door to the house. "That is an answer I don't have. Come on, let's go back inside." I nodded and follows him inside.

I went into the kitchen and found a left over piece of bread. I ate quietly as I listened to the dwarves start singing from the other room. I can't describe how amazing and breathtaking their voices where together...all of them had such deep voices...but they all matched perfectly. Though I could easily pick out Thorin's baritone voice. I listened to the song come to an end.

I walked out into the living room to see all the dwarves laying down to go to sleep. I saw Thorin sitting by the window, smoking his pipe. I snuck through the dwarves and sat down next to him. "Mr. Oakenshield...may I talk to you?" He looked at me and nodded. "I think...we got off to a bad start...but if I do decide to go on this journey...I'd rather not have a bad relationship with the leader." I said looking down at my lap. "That would be a wise choice." He said then blew an amazing smoke ring. "I wish I knew how to do that..." I said watching the smoke ring go around the room. "Here," Thorin handed me his pipe. "Just breath in, make your mouth into an O form then push out a little but forceful amout of air." He said. I did exactly what he said...and failed. "It takes practice." I smiled and nodded handing him back his pipe. "So are you going to sign the contract." I looked up at him. "Maybe...I'm going to read over it again before i sign it." Thorin nodded and sighed. "How did you get your mother to say yes to this?" He asked. "Well...I may have lied...a little." I said. "What did you tell her?" I looked at him and laughed nervously. "I told her I'm going on a fishing trip across middle-earth with Mr. Baggins. She didn't really care though." Thorin looked at me "why would she not care? Your her child. That and I don't understand why you would need her permission. You are basically an adult. " I sighed "you know...my moms a topic I would rather not talk about." I said sadly then felt my eye lids fall heavy.

((Thorin's POV))

"I told her I was going on a fishing trip across middle-earth with Mr. Baggins. She didn't really care though." I looked at her, what did she mean? "Why would she not care? Your her child. That and I don't understand why you need her permission. You are basically an adult. " I heard her sigh and slightly lean away from me."you know...my moms a topic I would rather not talk about." She had a slight hint of depression in her voice. I nodded and looked out of the window. I soon noticed her starting to sway slightly. She was tired. I was about to tell her to go to sleep but then I saw her fall back onto the wall. She already was. I sighed scooped her up, and went to find Bilbo. I found him and he gave me an odd look. "Where can I put her?" I asked. "There's another bed down the hall to the right, just put her there." I nodded and walked away. I easily found the bed. I pulled the blanket back then gently set her down. I looked at the girl. She was a nice girl...a little compulsive with her speech but nice. I don't want to see her get hurt...I wouldn't be able to live with myself if she where to be injured let alone killed...she's so young. I laid the blanket on top of her and grinned. I pushed her brown bangs out of her face and heard her lightly snoring. "Your still so new to life...yet so eager to see what is in the world. I just hope you'll be able to handle it when it comes time to experience it." I said before getting up to leave her there to sleep. I glanced at her one more time and noticed she still had her scarf tightly wrapped around her neck. I leaned closer and gently pulled the cloth covering her neck off. Needless to say...I was shocked by what I found. There where two black bruises near the bottom of her neck, also one on her collarbone. I backed away, not knowing what to do. I will bring this up at one point...just not now. "Goodnight." I muttered before shutting the door. I walked back into the living room and sat myself back where I was. I felt strangely more protective over this hobbit I've never known before...what has she gone through? I sighed and went to sleep, but couldn't get the bruises out of my head.
