Bernadette led Booya and me to the Thomas's home. She was determined to come with us to make sure that she could translate for us.

"My family can speak German so I will assume that they will speak to you in German," Bernadette said and I looked at Booya. He nodded.

"Keep your hand on your gun for safety," Booya muttered, low and quick enough that Bernadette couldn't translate what he said. She looked at me but I only her a small smile. She bit her lip as she opened the door.

"Father!" she yelled in German. A man walked out and looked at us with a hard looked then talking in French. Booya stood fast and it seemed like the destruction of he world was his device.

The sound I was heard at first was small. I looked towards it and saw Mr Thomas's posture change. Then something louder but Booya didn't hear it.

"Is anyone else in the house?" I asked, interrupting Bernadette.

"No. There is no reason to be concerned," Mr Thomas said but something crashed so Booya and I pulled our guns.

"Alaric," Bernadette stated.

"Either there something you don't want us to see or someone broke in. Let us just make sure that no one broke it," I said. Mr Thomas held Bernadette's shoulders.

We walked slowly towards the sound into a dead end room. We looked around and Booya snapped at me then pointed at the ground by the bookcase where clearly the bookcase had been moved. I nodded and pushed the bookcase, revealing three Jewish people that Booya pointed his gun at. They looked frightened and my automatic response was to point my gun at Booya.

"I can't let you hurt them," I stated, trying to keep my voice level.

"We have to turn them on by law," he said, clearly shaking.

"Because they are Jewish? You can't tell me that you never knew a Jew," I said as he closed his eyes.

"My fiancée," he told me. I raised my eyebrow.

"What about her?" I asked. He looked at me.

"She's Jewish. Numberg laws are keeping us from getting married," he said as he lowered his gun and I lowered my mine.

"I won't tell anyone if you won't and I think it is better if no one knew what we did," I said as I looked at the Jews in the opening that looked absolutely frightened that we had found them. "Bernadette," I called and she ran in. She looked at the three and then at me.

"Yes?" she asked and I took a deep breath.

"Tell them that they are okay and we are sorry for pointing our guns around," I said as I walked towards her. She looked at Booya before talking in French to the Jews in the cubby hole.

"They said thank you and that they promise that they won't be seen by anyone else," she told me softly. I nodded and walked to the living room. I walked past Mr Thomas and outside.

"She is packing a backpack then she will join us out here," Booya said as he came to stand next to me after a few minutes.

"My brother moved to America," I told him. He looked at me with a confused look.

"What?" he asked as I ran a hand through my hair.

"He moved to America... with his boyfriend," I said. He nodded and looked out towards the woods.

"I met her by accident when we were sixteen. I wasn't even suppose to be in that part of town but I wanted to pick something up. Needless to say, I frequented that part of town a lot more after I met her," he said . I nodded as he looked at the ground with a smile.

"We both have people we need to protect so let's make a pact," I said.

"What?" he asked as I looked at him and he looked back.

"We never speak of this or anything we said ever again. In return, if something happens to you, I will make sure your fiancée is supported until she is married," I said. He nodded.

"And in return, I will make sure Bernadette is supported and your brother gets at least one of your medals, if something was to happen to you," he said. I nodded and he stuck out his hand which I shook.

"We need to exchange their names so we can find them just in case," I said and he pulled out a pad of paper and a pen.

"Got to hide things from those guys," he muttered as he wrote a name down. Elisabeth Ackermann. He handed me the pad of paper and pen. I took his fiancée's name and wrote. Adalwolf Zimmerman and Heiko Ziegler. I handed him everything back and folded up his fiancée's name to put in my pocket.

"Boys," Mr Thomas said and we whipped around as he walked towards us.

"Yes, Mr Thomas?" I asked. He looked at me.

"I need to talk to you in a minute, Alaric. But my daughter is not going to be in danger, is she?" he asked. Booya shook his head.

"No, sir. We will make sure of it," Booya said and Mr Thomas nodded.

"Alaric, walk with me," Mr Thomas said and I followed as he walked off.

"Mr Thomas-" I started but he held up his hand.

"Don't be a fool. My daughter really enjoys your company so if the war takes a turn for the worse," he took a deep breath, "and you two want to get married to protect either one of you, do it. And don't make my little angel fall from heaven." I nodded.

"I wouldn't dream about it sir," I said and he nodded.

"You are a good boy, Alaric. You be good to her," he said and I nodded.

"I will be my best for your daughter," I said and he patted my shoulder.
