Mein Freund Johnny liebte eine Dame

Die war schlecht, wie alle Damen sind

Fraulein Lilly war ihr weter Name

Und mein armer Johnny war vor Liebe blind

Patch's radio played without fail and it was actually relaxing to listen to when there was nothing else to do. Butch and I were using each other's backs to hold each other up as we did whatever we were doing. For me that was writing another letter to my mother.

"Butch, Tiny, we found a little French house that is willing to allow their daughters to come out and play with us," Kipling informed us as Lemon and Orange led five girls into the clearing. I looked up and one girl caught my attention. She looked like she was the youngest and her long dark hair was memorising. I stood and Butch fell over. The guys laughed as I looked down at Butch.

"Sorry," I muttered. He raised his eyebrows.

"I think someone is over their ex," he said.

"It's been a month," I said as I kicked some dust at him. The girls laughed and I fixed my hair.

"Can they speak German?" Gen asked as he licked his hand to gel back his hair, a habit that was familiar.

"My sisters and I can," the eldest stated. Two of the girls pushed the youngest out and the guys pushed me forward.

"Um... hello, soldier," she said as she offered her hand. I shook it.

"Alaric," I told her. She blushed.

"Abella," she told me as she looked at the ground. I looked at the ground as well.

"Would... would you like to go sit down by the radio with me?" I asked, seeing Patch's radio was abandoned.

"I would," she said. I offer my arm and she took it lightly. I smiled at her and we walked to the radio. I took off my jacket so she had something to sit on instead of the ground. "Thank you," she whispered as she sat. I sat next to her.

"Do you like what is on?" I asked. She nodded and I looked into her eyes. Apparently, Lili Marlene was playing, again.

How I would love with you again

With you Lili Marlene.

"I think that you are very brave for serving even if our countries are on different sides of this war," she commented and I shrugged.

"I didn't really have a choice if I wanted to come," I stated and she moved my hair. I was shocked so I just stared at her.

"But you didn't run away from your duty which was to come which is brave," she told me and smiled a beautiful smile as the other girls and boys got louder.

"Would you like to leave this area so we can talk in private?" I asked. She nodded as I stood. I took her hand and picked up my jacket.

"There is a beautiful river that I know that is just a few miles from here," she told me. I smiled.

"Then let's go," I said as she started walking to the river. We walked in silence as I enjoyed the setting sun making her more beautiful than she already was.

"Isn't the river beautiful?" she asked as we arrived at the river. It was the most beautiful thing that I had ever seen and she took my jacket to lay it on the ground.

"It is beautiful," I said. She patted on the ground next to her so I sat next to her and moved her piece of hair out of her eyes.

"So, Alaric, I heard them call you Tiny?" she asked, glancing down at my lap. I felt my face warm up and tilted her head back up.

"I'm the smallest one in the group," I whispered, "height wise." She smiled and I put my forehead against hers.

"I'm sorry that you have to fight in a war," she whispered. I smiled as I looked into her hazel eyes.

"At least I got to meet you," I told her.

"You don't have a girlfriend, right?" she asked. I shook my head.

"I would like to court you, however," I said. She smiled and shook her head.

"You want to skip the friendship part?" she asked. I shrugged.

"Courting might result in friendship," I said. She smiled and touched my face.

"I want to go for a swim," she said. I leaned back and raised an eyebrow.

"We don't have swimsuits, Abella," I told her. She unzipped her dress and let her dress fall so she was in her high waisted underwear and bra, both white.

"Are you shy, Alaric?" she asked. I stood and undid my belt. She ran into the water as I finished undressing. I followed and caught her arm.

"You know the guys probably think that we are running crazy in the woods, making love," I whispered as I put my forehead against her forehead. She put an arm around my neck and I walked a little further into the water.

"My friends would go crazy if they knew I was with a German boy when our country is fighting yours. But... you might thing that I am crazy," she stopped herself. I put my arm around her waist.

"I want to hear it," I told her. She took a deep breath.

"I don't usually go out with soldier boys because they are typically annoying. But my sisters convinced me to come and I met you. I think God is telling me that I need to be with you," she whispered, "It's fate." I studied her eyes and leaned down to kiss her.

"Fate," I muttered after I pulled back. Her innocent eyes were still closed and I moved her hair. I pulled her closer and she held on to me tightly.
