Soon it was morning. I could tell threw my eyelids that the sun was beaming in through the windows. There was a knock on my window. Isis jumped up from resting and bellowed at Dean. I jumped, startled at well.

“Hey Hopeless, get your ass outta the car,” He grinned and I shook my head in annoyance.

Sometimes Dean was unbelievable. Breanna yawned and sat up, she was curled up into a ball on the seats.

I opened my door and tiredly dragged myself out of it. Emanuel got out and Dean looked at him. “We are just going to go get some snacks and stuff, we’ll be right back.  Can you please stay here?”

“Why can’t he come with us? I bet he has to go to the bathroom too.” Breanna stated.

Emanuel shook his head, “No, that’s okay. I do not need to go.”

“Okay.” She shrugged . Isis jumped up on Emanuel/Castiel, pinning him against the car.

“Isis down.” I ordered and she whined at me.

“No that’s alright.” He said, patting her on the head, “You go inside. I will wait.”

I nodded and walked alongside Breanna and Dean as we headed into the outlet store.

Me and Breanna went into the bathroom while Dean raided the food shelves.

3RD PERSON P.O.V

***

Dean flipped his phone shut and  heard a jingle of a doorbell.  He looked up in the reflection to see two figures walking straight for him. His expression became grim, and he took out the demon blade.

The demon threw him against the wall, and Dean returned the favor by slamming him into the glass fridge which instantly shattered. The demon lunged at him again and that’s when Dean sank the blade into it. Its body glowed and it collapsed onto the floor.

He started to walk down another aisle and was greeted by two more. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” He huffed and went to drive the knife into the demons chest. It threw him into a shelf, slamming his head into it as the knife skidded away with a metallic clang.

The demon began to walk forward when he was stabbed in the back. His body flickered, and the other demon took off in fright.

“Hope, you saved my ass.” He grunted beginning to pull himself up off the floor. But then he saw Hope and Breanna running to his side. Is she didn't save him then who did?

Was it Emanuel?

The body of the demon attacking him collapsed to the ground to reveal a dark haired girl, with a smooth round face.

***

HOPE’S P.O.V

***

“Hope, yea…not so much.” She said in a monotonous voice. My eyes narrowed. There was something about her I did not like, even if she had saved Dean’s bacon. She was wearing a black tanktop, black leather pants and a big belt buckle, on top of that jean jacket she had.

Her eyes flicked black. My eyes narrowed, there was only one knife to kill her, and she was holding it.

Dean only knew of a couple girl demons that would ever bother to help him.

“Meg,” He stated grimly.

“Dean, Dean, Dean, you got some ‘splainin’ to do.” She said wryly.

“The hell he does.” I growled.

“Well aren’t you just a little ball of fire.” She said to me and my eyes narrowed. “Do you feel better now that you two girls went to go potty?”

I snarled at her. My eyes glowing electric blue.

Breanna snipped. “Don’t even go there, bitch. I’ve just woken up and you do not wanna piss me off.”

“Oh yea, I’m sure…you might beat me with your little hairpin.” She snidely replied. “Might wanna keep your friend on a shorter leash.”

“Go to hell.” I ordered and then remarked, “Oh wait…you’ve already been.” she looked at me with some vague amusement, before directing her conversation at Dean. “Rumors are really starting to fly about this Emanuel fellow. My curiosity sure got revved up.”

“Just tell me what you want Meg.” Dean ordered.

“Imagine my surprise when I track him down, and he’s snuggled up with you. And he’s the spitting image of poor, dead Castiel. So Dean, what’s “poor, dead, Castiel” doing in that junker out there?”

“Christmas Caroling,” Dean replied sarcastically.

“Fun, but how’s he alive? Last I heard, he played God, went poof.”

Dean looked at her darkly, “I don’t know, and neither does he, so you gotta keep it shut.” He walked past her and began gathering junk food. Was he stealing it? I looked at the whole store, which had no single conscious person left in it. Ok, I guess we were stealing food.

Meg replied to the comment she had to shut up, “Oh I do?”

“Yes,” Breanna replied in sync with me.

Dean looked at her, pointing a finger in her face, “Look—he doesn’t know he’s Cas.”

“I know, I’ve been watching you for hours.”

“Stalker.” I muttered.

“So here’s the deal, you remember how Crowley and I were frosty back in the day, well that hasn’t changed.” So she had a bad experience with Crowley. So what, she wouldn't be the first. My back ached in memory. As far as I'm concerned, anything that Crowley did to her she probably had coming.

“Good.” Dean said simply.

“That hurts my feelings I’ve been good to you Dean.”

“No,” He retorted, “You’ve been good to you Sweetheart.”

“Look,” Meg explained, “Right now rumors of this wandering healer are strictly low level. But the body count’s getting high enough to change that.  Folks start poking they sniff angel dust.”

“Yeah they start falling all over each other trying to tell Crowley.”

“Now picture Crowley with his hands on harmless little amnesia Cas. Don’t get me wrong I’m gonna burn that smarmy dick, my times coming. But right now my army of one situation is not cutting it. It’s cold out here there’s a price on my ass, and I need friends.”

“Yea,” Dean replied. “I get that, but I ain’t it.”

“That’s where you’re wrong Dean, ‘cause I’m here to help you and that makes us friends.”

Dean stopped. I glared at him and wanted to drag his ass out of that store. Why couldn't we just ditch this demon.

“Help, huh?” He replied sarcastically. “You mean see if you can turn harmless little Cas out there into an angel sized weapon?”

“Like you’re taking him caroling.” She replied bitterly. “And by the way, do you really wanna keep going with no back up?”

“I’m the back up.” I snapped at Meg.

She rolled her eyes. “Oh yes, because you were so helpful this time.”

I glared at her. “Hey, I don’t trust you either,” She explained to us, “But I could really use Emanuel, and he trust’s you three. So now its in everyone’s best interests to hold hands and cross the street together okay?”

“We go straight to Sam,” Dean ordered and I wanted to slap him. “No detours.” He demanded.

Joy lit up on Meg’s face, “I love it.”

I dont. I thought in irritation.

“And one more thing.” Dean said and she stopped. “My knife.” She handed the demon blade to him with a glare.

I was satisfied I suppose, at least he didn't let her run away with that.

We walked out to see Emanuel throwing a stick for Isis. She looked at the stick as it landed on the ground and stood where she was, thumping her tail idiotically. The only thing that would make her chase a stick was if it had a strip of bacon tied to the end of it.

“She doesn’t play fetch.” I replied honestly.

Emanuel turned around, gasping as he saw Meg.

“Her face, she’s—”

“A demon whore named Meg I know.” I said bitterly.

She ignored me, “It’s okay, we demons come in different flavors.” I gave her a look.

Dean tried to explain, “She’s uh….a friend?”

Emanuel looked between Breanna, me, and Meg and noticed the tension. “I do not think friends call their friends whores.”

“They don’t,”  Breanna said as I opened up the car door, letting Isis jump in the back seat. She turned and gave me a grin, licking my hand.

“Aww…how cute. Is she your daughter?” Meg replied and I glared at her.

"Of course not," I snorted, "She's still cuter than you."

Emanuel watched Meg curiosly, wondering why she was here.

“I’m just here for moral support.” She replied and Dean scoffed.

“Yea well good luck with that.” Breanna said.

“Where am I supposed to ride?” She asked after Dean, Emanuel, Breanna and I piled in the car.

“I don’t know.” Breanna replied.

I grinned and replied, “You know, we have some rope in the back, we could tie you to the roof.” Dean looked and knew that it was going to be too cramped.

“It looks like you’ll have to use your own car.” I replied and she huffed stalking away to find one.

Dean leaned back in relief against the seat. “Hope, Breanna…I know you don’t like her, but try to be nice alright? She is good to have on your side.”

“I just don’t trust that pig.” Breanna replied. “Every time I see her it makes my skin crawl.”

“I know what a “good” relationship you’ve had with demons in the past.” I replied, “I doubt this to be any different.”

***

Sam shuddered at he laid out on the bed. The doctor was shining a light into his eye. “How are you feeling Sam?”

Lucifer taunted Sam. “His Soul’s broken doc, you gotta pill for that?”

Sam began to hallucinate further…he looked and saw his nails were beginning to fall out, a reaction from loosing so much sleep.

“We’re going to try an alternate form of treatment.” The doctor said and asked Sam carefully. “Are you with me Sam?”

***

It was nightfall by the time we got to the hospital. I swung my door open just as Meg walked out in front of me.  She drove a yellow rusting, junker, and she had followed us the whole way here.

We stopped long enough to look down the hill to where the hospital was at.

I could hear Emanuel’s heart skipped a beat as he stared at all of the people down there. “Oh Gracious.”

Meg looked too, “Damn it...demons.” She stated. There was a handful of them down there, just waiting for us to try to get to Sam.

“All of them are demons?” Dean asked dreadingly, looking through binoculars to the scene below. Meg nodded.

“How many knives do we have?” Emanuel asked.

“Just the one.” Dean replied.

“Well then, forgive me, but what do we do?”

“Yeah Dean…got any other ideas on how to blast through that?” I looked at the demons and knew I could only hold them off. I wouldn’t be able to kill them on my own.

“Excuse us,” Dean said to Cas. “Meg.” He motioned for her to come join us off to the side.

“Oh for the love of…Sam’s in there. I know you’re enjoying the double dip with your old pal--but”

“Do you think its that cut and dry? Really?” Dean questioned in annoyance. “You know what he did. And you wanna tell him and just hope he takes it in stride? He could snap…he could disappear. Who knows?”

“I gather we know each other.” Dean turned to see Emanuel standing there.  He had been listening in.

“Just a bit.” I said quietly.

“You can tell me…I’ll be fine.”

“How do you know?” Dean asked. “You’ve just met yourself, I’ve known you for years.”

“You’re an angel.” Meg spat. Breanna and I glared at her.

Emanuel looked at Meg with confusion, “I’m sorry? Is that a flirtation?”

“No, it’s a species. A very powerful one” She replied.

“She’s telling the truth.” Dean admitted.

I nodded, “Yes, that’s why you could heal me.”

“Why wouldn’t you tell me?” Emanuel asked, “Being an angel—it sounds pleasant.”

“Its not. Trust me.  Its bloody its corrupt. Its not pleasant.”

“He would know, you used to fight together.” Meg said.

“We’re friends?” Emanuel asked, then it dawned on him. “Am I Cas?”

“Yes, you’re Castiel.” I stated gravely.

“I—I had no idea, I don’t remember you I’m sorry.”

“You could smite every demon out there.” I pointed out.

“But I don’t remember how.”

Dean tried to comfort him, “Its in there. I’m sure its just like riding a bicycle.”

“I don’t’ know how to do that either.” He said bitterly.

**

Castiel’s Perspective.

**

Emanuel/Castiel walked down towards the hospital. A demon guard looked at him, “Hey I know you. You’re dead.”

“Yes, ”Castiel answered, “I’ve heard.” Then he grabbed him by the collar and placed his hand on the demons head. The eyes began to glow and bits of memory began to flow back into Castiel.

Angel wings and blood fell onto the floor.

He let go in shock, the scenes in scripted in his memory banks. There were still three more.

He turned, throwing his hands onto two more demons, smiting and obtaining more memories.

Blood  lay painted on a wall. He handed Dean the demon blade.

***

We got down there as the third demon turned and sprinted. Castiel appeared in front of him as he replied darkly, “I don’t think running will save you.” Then he smited the third demon. He stood staring at the hospital that lay before us.

“Cas?” Dean asked cautiously.

“I remember you,” He replied, “I remember everything.”

The way he said that…I wasn’t sure what his next move would be.

“What I became? Why didn’t you tell me?”

Dean retorted. “Because Sam is dying in there.”

“Because of me.” Castiel replied, he was the one who had broken the wall inside his mind, so long ago.

“Everything, all of these people. I shouldn’t be here.”

He began to walk away.

“Cas. Cas!” Dean yelled. He took after him, I started to follow.

“Easy there, Hopeful…perhaps you let the grown ups handle this.” Meg replied, standing in front of me.

I glared at her. “You’re not going either.”

“Just watch me.”

She turned to follow them and I grabbed her wrist with a snarl.

“Why don’t you let the grown ups handle it.” Breanna replied.

***

“You did the best you could,” Dean replied.

Castiel spat at him, “Don’t you dare defend me! Do you have any idea the death toll in heaven? On earth?” They paused, their breaths coming out in a smoky mist.

“When I thought I was going to die, I saw parts of the future, and the past. I knew Hope was alive, that’s why I told her to come here. So someone could help you when I died. We didn’t part friends Dean.”

“So what?” Dean stated.

“I deserved to die,” Castiel decided, “Now, I can’t possibly fix it, so why did I even walk out of that river?”

“Maybe to fix it.” Dean answered. “Wait,” He said and dug out the keys for the trunk, unlocking it. He pulled out a bloodied trench coat and handed it to Cas.

 ***

Sam groaned at the doors for a lab swung open. God he was so exhausted. Did the doctor say something about therapy? Oh well, he didn’t care anymore.

Still he asked, “Where are we?”

Electro shock therapy. Normally they keep this on low…but I thought we could come in here for some experiments.”

Sam had a mouth guard in and a headstrap on as the nurses eyes flicked back. Sam tried to scream, but he couldn’t.

Pain electrocuted through his body…he couldn’t hear what the demon said, and he didn’t care. He was going to die there in that wretched lab.

But suddenly the pain stopped. Sam eyes opened, part of him hoping he was dead already, but he saw Castiel standing over him, pulling of the headstrap and the mouthguard. “I shouldn’t have broken the wall in your mind Sam.” I’m here to make it right.” He touched his forhead to heal him.

Sam opened his eyes to see Lucifer, “You’re not real.” Sam panted, falling back into the seat.

“Sam I’m so sorry.”

***

Sam kept falling in and out of a doze, but not truly asleep. Breanna watched him as he kept staring in agony at the ceiling, waiting to die.

Tears filled her eyes.

“What do you mean you can’t!?” I cried, standing between Dean and Castiel.

“There’s nothing left to rebuild.”

“Why not?”

“The pieces got crushed to dust by whatever’s happening inside his head right now.” He said and my heart faltered.

No….

….That wall in Sam’s mind was the only thing that had kept Lucifer at bay for so long….

Dean leaned back against the wall in defeat. “So…you’re saying there’s nothing? Is…he going to be like this until his candle blows out?”

“I’m sorry…” Castiel replied sadly. There was something caught in my throat, and I refrained from crying.

“This isn’t a problem I can make disappear, and you know that.”

We all watched Sam for a moment and a light bulb went off in Castiel’s head. “But I might be able to shift it.”

“Shift it?” Dean asked and we looked quizzingly at Castiel.

Breanna inferred. “Do you mean just hold it off …for a few more years?”

“No. I mean shift it.” He said and walked over to Sam, setting down on the bed. He turned and stared hard at all of us. “Its better this way. I’ll be fine.” Castiel stated.

“Wait,Cas—” Dean asked, uncertain.

“—what are you doing?” I asked.

He didn’t answer, “Now Sam, this may hurt…and if I can’t tell you again…how sorry I am. I’m sorry I ever did this too you.”

Then he gripped Sam’s forehead and he cried out in pain as a red light began emitting from it. The red glow began to trail up Castiel’s hand and up his neck. His eyes began to glow and so did his head.

Castiel let go of Sam. Sam cried out and scrambled to the edge of the wall.

“Sam?” Dean asked worriedly.

“Dean!” He cried out, “Cas?” He must’ve just noticed him there.

Castiel opened his eyes, and found himself  looking directly at Lucifer. “Hello Brother.” Lucifer replied cheerily. Castiel lunged back against the wall in panic.

I could see the whites of his eyes, I’ve never seen anyone look so terrified before.

He had traded his sanity for Sam’s….

***

We walked out of the hospital.

“I don’t know.  We can’t just leave him…”

“Well, he can’t bring him with us. Everything out in the planet is after us. Word get’s out, we can’t protect him. This is safer. Really.”

“Yea, but why does it feel like we just abandoned him? Maybe it was better if we hadn't told him at all who he really is?” Breanna said shamefully.

“Yea, I know how you feel. I feel like I just kicked a dead puppy, and gave it to Meg.” I grumbled.

Meg was going to stay there as a caretaker. None of us liked it but at least he would be staying away from Crowley’s reach with her around.

“Look this “the enemy of my enemy is my friend deal,” feels kinda like a demon deal.”

“So it wasn’t just me.” Breanna and I said in unison.

“Its not a deal.”

“Then what is it?”

“Mutually assured destruction. Look I get it…she’s not our friend. We don’t have friends.”

I gave him a dirty look, “What the hell?”

“You’re more than just a friend to me. You and Breanna. In some alternate screwed up reality, we’d be family.”

“Well that’s kinda twisted,” Breanna stated, remembering how Dean and I shared a room at the cabin.,“Didn’t you and Hope have sex?” Sam raised his eyebrows, what did he miss while he was in the hospital.

I turned bright red, “No Dean, we are not like family. Definitely not…we are really…really close friends. So close of friends maybe you wouldn’t call us friends…” Breanna, Dean, and Sam eyed me.

I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly,

“Oh just shut up and get in the car.” I said jumping in next to Isis.

Dean chuckled and swung his door open. Breanna sat next to me and Sam in the front seat.

With a turn of the engine the junker hummed down the road.
