I returned to my hometown the next day. A sway of guilt filled me, remembering Keith’s words.

Running around and filming freaks like us,

we are being endangered, that’s the thing about myths and legends,

we live best when we aren’t believed in.

Because the moment we are believed in, there is someone out there with a gun.

He didn’t lie, that’s what hurt about the whole ordeal. Is that why I didn’t tell a soul about what I really was? Was I afraid the moment they knew someone else would be picking out a bullet?

I suppose that had been the main reason, I had already been killed once. Granted it seemed like I was going out of my way to get killed, by hunting and endangering my life; but after everything that had went on….I guess I felt an obligation. Did everyone know that demons and ghosts existed? Some did, but that didn’t mean they knew how to get rid of them. The paranormal society proved that.

I was a hypocrite sometimes, a monster hunting monsters.

“What happened?” Breanna demanded, soon as she saw me, looking at the bandages on my arm and shoulder.

I peeked into the house, “Is your sister or mom in there?”

She shook her head, “No, Mom went to go drop Emmy off to a party.” I plopped down on the couch.

 “Good.”

She stood, her hands on her hips, “Well, what happened? I’m demanding some answers girl!”

“Well, you were right about the Thunderbird.” I said, rubbing my shoulder in memory. “The unfortunate thing is we didn’t know anything about them being able to switch to human form.

Her eyes widened, “Are you serious?”

“As a fatal disease.” I said simply.

She sat on the adjacent chair. “Wow, I didn’t even know they can do that! I didn’t know anything could do that, did you?”

“I hoped it wasn’t the case. It took me off guard.” I said, and reminded myself. Yeah, I can switch to the daemon wolf but I completely forget others have the same ability? Am I really that gullible to think I was the only one able to do that? Thinking it over I decided I was.

“Well, so I take it that’s where the bandages came from?”

 “Yep.” I answered honestly

“What are you going to tell your parents?”

I shrugged sheepishly, “Honestly I don’t know— I was thinking perhaps wearing three-quarter sleeves?” If I couldn't think of a better plan, that was.

She raised her eyebrows, “Aren’t you going to have to go to the doctors to get the stitches out?”

“Nope, because they didn’t give me the stitches. Carter did.”

 “Oooh…whose Carter?”

I rolled my eyes, grinning. “The DNR guy; he gave me one batch of stitches, I did the rest though.”

I saw her refrain from shuddering at the thought of stitches. Breanna was always a bit squeamish when it came to those things. That was one of the reasons she would have made an awful hunter. I knew that I had to tell her the truth this time.

“Listen, I need to tell you something…” I forced out. “I didn’t need all of those stitches at once—”

“What are you saying?” She was confused. Couldn’t blame her. Isis walked over and sat in front of the couch. I sat up petting her as I continued, but I couldn’t.

“Could we go for a drive?” I asked carefully, I didn’t want her mother to come home to hear me.
