You drop down in your bed, dizziness blurring your visions.
"What did you do?"
You don't receive an answer from the archangel as you put your hand to your head, trying to stop the spinning.
"I said..."
You fall back into your pillow and pass out before you can say anything else.
Everything was black, but at the same time, you felt like you could see things moving past you. Your hair blew up in front of your face. Nausea blooms in your stomach and you want to move or do something but you just fall and fall and fall...
When you wake up, you're in a room similar to the motel room you fell asleep in, but different. You shake your head to try and clear it and then startle when you see Sam on the bed next to you.
"Sam, wake up!"
You shake his shoulder violently until his eyes begin to flutter.
"(Y/n)?" He groggily sits up, using your shoulder for support. "What's going on?"
You look down to find yourself wearing a blue dress. Reaching up to your head, you find your hair in pigtails. Looking at Sam, you notice he's in just about the same clothes he always is except he now has small dog ears.
"C'mon."
You grab the picnic basket from the bedside table and go to open the door. Your mouth opens in awe and surprise at what you see.
"Sam..." Both of you step outside now. "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
A noise causes you to turn around and you spot a large bubble floating closer. You back up out of its way, as does Sam.
"Okay, now I know we aren't in Kansas."
The bubble bursts and a figure begins to take form. You don't realize you were holding your breath until you let it out. But then you suck in air again.
"Oh, hey." She messes with a strand of her hair. "So are you like, a good witch or a bad witch?"
You take a moment to answer, but you finally force a response out of your mouth.
"Who, me? I'm not a witch. I'm (Y/n)!"
She doesn't pause.
"Oh, so is that the witch?" She asks, pointing to Sam.
"Well, no! That's my friend, Sam!"
"Well, the munchkins called me here saying a new witch dropped a house on the Wicked Witch of the East. And here's the house. And here you are. And that's all that's left of the Wicked Witch of the East. So the munchkins want to know if you're a good witch, or a bad witch."
"Well, neither! I'm not a witch, I just told you! Witches are old and ugly!"
The words slip out of your mouth unchecked and Sam elbows you. Laughter spills out behind you and you turn your head.
"What was that?"
"The munchkins laughing. You see, I'm kind of a witch."
She shrugs and messes with the wand in her hand.
"Well, I never really see beautiful witches."
"Aw, thanks."
She blushes at the subtle compliment.
"So, what are munchkins?"
"Oh, just the people who live here. They're chill. Hey, you guys can come out."
Several large groups of small people rush out from houses and bushes, surrounding you. And you always thought you were short. Geez. You can feel a song coming on, so you hold out your hands.
"Woah, wait a minute!"
Now everyone is really looking at you.
You turn to Sam.
"What the hell?"
"I don't know."
"No seriously, what the hell?"
"I don't know!"
You smile awkwardly at the munchkins who are still staring at you.
"Uh, where are we?"
"You're in Oz."
"Oz!"
"You've heard of it?"
"Well yeah, in stories! This can't be real."
You glance at Sam again.
Suddenly, without warning, red smoke billows up from the ground. The munchkins fall down, screaming and putting their hands over their heads. You cough as you inhale some of the red smoke and you try to wave it away. When you finally get the smoke away, you nearly laugh.
"Crowley?"
Sam tries to stifle a laugh behind as Crowley turns to look at the house.
"Who killed the Wicked Witch of the East?" He spots you and Sam and begins walking your way. "Was it you?"
You realize he's only looking at you.
"No! Well, I mean, yeah, but it was an accident."
"Accident or not, you killed her."
"But I-"
"Hang on a sec."
The good witch hovers behind you, placing a protective hand on your shoulder.
"What about the ruby slippers?"
"Right."
Crowley turns back around and stalks towards the house. Just as he is reaching to grab the slippers, they appear on your feet in place of some boring brown ones.
"You can't just do that!"
"Too late. Now that they're on, they won't come off."
You're surprised to find yourself admiring them, turning your ankle a bit to get a better view. Crowley steps towards you threateningly and suddenly you feel a bit scared.
"You can't do anything to her here, remember?"
Crowley looks just about more pissed than you've ever seen him, which makes you want to laugh all over again, but you hold it in.
"I'll get you, darling. And you're little dog, too," he says, tipping his head toward Sam's dog ears. And with that he's gone.
"Dog?"
Sam's hand drifts up to his dog ears and he nearly has some kind of conniption fit. You hold back giggles as he moves his hand to find the other dog ear.
"I'm a dog? A fucking dog?"
"Your dog does love to bark," the good witch comments.
"He's not a dog, he's a human! Can't you hear him talking?"
She blinks at you, slight confusion on her features.
"Never mind. It doesn't matter. We need to get back to the motel. To Kansas."
"For that you'll need to go see the Wizard."
"Wizard of Oz. Right," you mumble.
"Well, how do I get to him?" You ask, playing along though you already know what comes next.
"You need to get to Emerald City. Have you got your broom?"
"No," you reply, slightly annoyed.
"Well, I guess you'll be walking then. All you've got to do is follow the yellow brick road."
"Follow the yellow brick road," the crowd murmurs. You resist the urge to roll your eyes.
"Alright, follow the yellow brick road."
"Hang on. Don't take off the slippers, okay?"
"Sure." You offer a fist-bump and then smile. "See you then."
The good witch smiles in response and disappears the way she came. Sighing, you step onto the yellow brick road, listening to the munchkins chattering excitedly as you and Sam begin your journey.
