Chapter Sixteen
I just finished my Art class. I grab my key and unlock my dorm door.
I hear music playing and Riley was dancing around the room. I look at her with confusion but with a small smile, "Riles."
She doesn't stop dancing, "Yeah?"
I close the door behind me, "What're you doing?"
"Stress dancing. Do you want to join?"
I look at her for a while before joining in on the stress dancing. We were dancing and laughing together.
Smackle walks in and we turn to the door while dancing. Smackle just stares at us with a straight face and shakes her head before sighing, "Why?"
She turns around and walks out of the dorm room. Riley and I laugh while looking at each other. My phone starts ringing and I dance over to my side table and see that it's a phone call from Josh.
I keep dancing around as I grab the phone and press it against my ear, "Hey, Boing."
He sounds confused, "Are you working out, Hart?"
I chuckle, "Josh, you know I don't work out. I'm stress dancing."
He smiles slightly. "I was wondering if you could take a break from 'not working out'. I need someone to talk to."
I stop jumping around and run my fingers through my hair, "Are you okay?"
"Uh, I don't really know right now. Can we meet somewhere?"
"Yeah, of course." He tells me to meet him at his apartment before we hang up. I look at Riles before putting on my jacket again, "Sorry babe. I have to go."
She pouts, "Where?"
"Your Uncle Josh needs someone to talk to."
She smirks and nods. "Okay, you are free to go."
I chuckle and roll my eyes before grabbing my phone and keys and walking out of our dorm room.
I see him sitting on his apartment's porch swing. I sigh and sit next to him. He smiles sadly at me and I put an arm around him, "What's going on?"
He sighs and turns his head to me, "You know how Sophia went to LA for the holidays?"
I nod, "Yeah, you told me about that."
"Yeah, well while she was there she met up with her ex boyfriend."
I sigh, "Oh no."
"Oh yeah and they had a couple of drinks." I know exactly what he's going to say. "She cheated on me."
I put his head on my shoulder and sigh, "Shit, I'm so sorry. That completely sucks."
He sighs and sits back, "I know. I should've seen it coming though, we've been distant towards each other."
"Why?"
He looks at me for a while, "I think you know why."
He's right, I do. It's because of me. I sit back and sigh, "I'm sorry, I'm known for fucking shit up."
He shakes his head, "Don't even say that. This was bound to happen."
I sigh and run my fingers through my hair. "Whatever you say." I hug his arm and put my head on his shoulder while we sit in comfortable silence. I look at him, "I know how to make you feel better."
He smirks slightly at me, "Oh really?"
I hit the back of his head with a smile, "Get your head out of your ass."
He chuckles. "What can make me feel better?"
I smile, "I have an extra ticket for this Art Gallery event for my internship."
He smirks slightly, "Are you asking me out already? Geesh, Maya I just got out of a relationship."
I laugh and roll my eyes, "Shut up. I'm asking you as a friend who knows you need to get out in order to make you feel."
He smiles, "If that's the story you want to go with, then yes, I would love to go with you."
I laugh and punch his arm playfully which makes him chuckle. He's so unbelievable.
I'm in my dorm room with Riley. She's trying to help me with picking out an outfit. Riley turns to look at me, "What exactly are you supposed to be wearing?"
"My boss said dress."
"Well then peaches, you don't have that many options. Now do you?"
"Are teasing me, Riles?"
She smiles, "Maybe."
I roll my eyes playfully but I smile, "Come on, stay focused."
She sighs and turns to my closet. I start humming to myself while I wait for her to do her fashionista thing. She gasps excitedly, "Peaches!"
I sit up, alarmed. "What?"
"Why haven't you worn this dress? It still has its tag."
I shrug, "I don't know, I guess I was salty that Sophia picked it out."
She looks at me with disbelief, "Seriously? No you're definitely going to wear this for tonight."
I look at the tight soft pink short dress and sigh, "Okay fine." Riley squeals and I look at her for a long time, "I don't understand how that noise can come out of that small, tiny body."
Riley laughs and rolls her eyes.
I'm in my dress and Riley curled my hair and did my makeup. Josh and I planned to meet at the art gallery since I have to go early to make sure everything's organized. Riley hugs me, "Good luck, peaches."
I smile, "Thanks, Riles."
I'm at the art gallery with my boss, Stephanie. I'm helping her set up all of the art gallery. She looks at me, "This art gallery is very important. I need you to do what you do best, talk about the art with admiration."
I smile with assurance, "That won't be a problem."
She smiles, "Good, this is why I chose you, Maya Hart."
I smile, "And I highly appreciate it, Steph."
She smiles and puts her hand on my shoulder. The art gallery started and I start talking about the art with potential buyers. I turn my head and see Josh, who's smiling at me. I smile and blush, "Would you excuse me?"
The man nods and I walk over to Josh with a smile on my face, "Was that a smile I saw?"
He smiles and holds my waist, "Well, I can't help myself when you look so beautiful."
I blush but reply with, "And you're looking handsome as always, Boing."
He chuckles and kisses my cheek before letting me go. Stephanie smirks as she walks over to us, "Maya! This must be your boyfriend."
Before I could say anything, Josh says, "Not yet but soon to be."
Stephanie smiles and raises an eyebrow at me, "I like him."
I laugh slightly, "Yeah, uh he's very charming."
He smirks down at me and Stephanie chuckles before walking away. I turn to him and slap his arm playfully, "Josh!"
He laughs, "What? I was just telling her the truth."
I roll my eyes playfully and smile, "Well, I have to get back to work."
He smiles and keeps looking at me, "Okay."
I smile and walk away to another potential buyer.
Throughout the whole night, Josh just watched and admired me from afar, knowing that I'm in work mode. When I didn't have to talk to anyone, him and I would look at the art. We sold a lot of artwork and Stephanie was really impressed with me which made me feel happy and hopeful.
After the art gallery, Josh and I went out to eat burgers which looked strange because I was in a dress and Josh was in a suit. We definitely got strange looks that night.
