Cooper's POV:
"Mate."
Oh shit. He did not just say that. Why does everyone feel the need to growl that word at me. Why can't they growl something normal? Or not growl at me at all....
My body froze as my brain tried to come up with a plan. I looked to my right then to my left. No escape. Lucas was built like a freaking line backer. I put my hands on his chest and started to push. Nothing.
I started to get annoyed when Lucas grabbed my wrist and pinned them to the fridge above my head. He leaned in really close and started sniffing at my neck. He huffed and dragged his nose lower to my collarbone above the neckline of my shirt. He sniffed again and let out a sound of satisfaction.
Enough was enough. This was going too far.
"Uhm Lucas? Can you get off me now? This isn't funny anymore."
He just ignored me and started nuzzling me, licking my skin softly. Usually I would be moaning and shivering in pleasure from him kissing my soft spot, but it wasn't the same as Hunter doing it.
The thought of Hunter sent cold water through my system. A sense of dread came over me as I thought of his reation to seeing this. I started struggling in earnest. Kicking, wiggling, and pushing in every direction to get Lucas off. It was no use.
Not only was Lucas twice my size, but he was also a werewolf and I was merely a human. Panic just started to wash over me when I heard another growl. A very sexy, possessive growl from a different wolf. An alpha wolf.
I sagged in relief and expected Lucas to drop me like a hot potato. No way would he keep the alpha's mate pinned when he was in the room.
I was wrong.
If anything, Lucas' grasp got tighter and the growling started again. This time it wasn't a turned on growl, but a warning growl.
"Lucas. Get your ass away from my mate RIGHT NOW before I rip your fucking arms off for even touching him."
Lucas released me, but he just shoved my behind him as he turned around to face Hunter. His back was tense and he was crouched in a defensive position.
"No way in hell, Hunter. He's my mate."
"Like fucking hell he is!!" Hunter roared as he went tense all over too. I knew that he could tear Lucas apart in seconds if he wanted to. I was kind of scared for Luke.
"His scent calls to me and I wont let you steal my mate. I've waited so long for my mate and I don't care if you my alpha. I'll fight you for him."
The growls and snarls got louder and I took this time to slide from behind Lucas while he was distracted. He turned to grab my arm, but I jerked away and scrambled in the middle between the two. They both took a step towards me, but I darted into the living room where I placed the couch between the three of us.
"Stop, guys! I'm not a pice of meat to fight over. Just calm down and we can work this out."
"There is nothing to work out, Cooper. You are my mate and I'll dstroy anyone who gets in the way of us being together." Hunter's deep, possessive growl sent shivers through my body and I started to get turned on. I shook myself out of it. Focus, Coop, focus.
"He's my mate too and I'm not sharing him! I will challenge you, Alpha. He's mine."
They both took another step and I retreated some more, putting my hands up as if it could stop them. They did stopped and I felt a bit amused. They were very obediant puppies.
"This doesn't make any sense. I met you last night, Lucas, and you didn't say anything about me being your mate. You were actually happy that I was Hunter's mate. How am I suddenly your mate?"
That stopped Lucas. He froze and let up slightly on his stance. He got a thoughtful look on his face before he shielded it. He took another step toward me and he put out a pleading hand. He ignored the growl from Hunter and looked at me.
"I must not have been playing attention. Please, baby, come here."
I wrinkled my nose at him and looked at Hunter. He didn't look too happy about the 'baby' comment. In fact, he looked murderous and even though Lucas was bugging me right now, I didn't want him dead.
I took a step towards Hunter and he immediately started to relax. But only slightly. I kept walking towards him until I was in front of him and I squeezed his arm in a reassuring gesture. He smiled softly at me and I saw the love reflected in his eyes.
I barely registered the feral snarl coming from Lucas before I was shoved to the side by Hunter and I crashed into the wall. My vision got blurry, but I could still make out the sounds of a fight going on. I heard the tearing of fabric and I blinked to try to focus on my surroundings.
Both men had shifted and the sight of two giant wolves fighting almost had me fainting. I jumped up from my slumped position and groaned in pain when my head rejected the movement. I shook it off and watched as the wolves pushed, clawed, and snapped at eachother, trying to get the upper hand.
I recognized Lucas as the blonde wolf and Hunter as the darker one. Both looked around the same size and build, but the Beta had nothing on the Alpha. Hunter tackled Lucas to the ground on his back and snarled in his face. Not to be out done, the Beta snarled back, yet I could hear the faint trace of fear in the sound.
As Hunter locked his teeth around Luke's neck, I started to freak. I just started looking around to find something to hit one of them with when I spotted a unusual sight.
A dark haired, pixie looking girl leaned against the wall about three feet away from me eating a popsicle and watching the fight like it was a high school wrestling match. Her eyes were focused and dancing with amusment as she hummed happily and just watched.
I gapped at her, but she didn't seem to notice. I waited a couple of seconds to see if she would intervene, but she didn't. She just continued to watch.
Eventually I just got sick of waiting and tapped her on the shoulder. She took her time to look at me and when she did, she looked at me questioningly. Was she kidding??
"Yeeeess?" She drawled after popping the ice cream out of her mouth. On a regualr day I would have laughed at her because her mouth was bright red and she didn't seem to notice. Today was not a normal day.
"Are you going to help?" I said exaggerated.
"No."
"What? Why not? They could get hurt."
"They probably will."
"THEN STOP THEM!"
"I don't think I will."
I exhaled loudly and looked around again. I grabbed a pillow and chucked it at the two fighting, but they didn't even flinch. Lucas had gotten out from under Hunter and they were circling now. I grabbed another pillow and threw it. Still nothing.
I was about to scream in frustration when I heard the pixie talk again.
"Nice shirt. Where'd you get it?"
I looked at her like she was crazy. Is she serious? She wants to talk fashion NOW?!?!?! I decided to ignore her, but she persisted.
"I really like the color, but it doesn't look like the type of shirt a guy like you would buy. Did you get it as a gift?"
I was really getting irritated with her as I grabbed more pillows and continued throwing them at the idiots.
Oh course the chick wouldn't shut up. And people wonder why I like men.
"I would really like to get a shirt like that to sleep in. It looks comfortable. Soft and cozy. Did you borrow it from a friend?"
I figured the only way to shut her up so she could help was to answer her question, so I gritted my teeth. "Yes, I borrowed it from my friend. He left it at my house and I like it. Are you happy now??? Will you help me now?"
"Take it off."
I threw up my hands and glared at her. "You're ridiculous!"
She just looked at me with assessing eyes, oblivious to the crashing sounds of the fight moving into the kitchen.
"Take off your shirt."
"No! You're a weirdo!"
"Just take off the shirt and I'll help stop the fight."
I grabbed the hem off the shirt and ripped it off over my head before throwing at her. Her hand snapped out and she caught it effortlessly before smiling at me.
"There! You got the shirt. Now let's go break up the fight before someone dies."
She shrugged and casually walked over towards the fight. I followed nervously and started to rethink my plan. What made me think that this 5 foot, 100 pound dwarf could help me break up two werewolves fighting to the death? Yup. Didn't think that through.
Before I could stop her, the girl stepped up close to the two and dangled the shirt right above them.
"Here, wolfy, wolfy, wolfy. Come get the delicious smelling shirt. Mmmmm the sweet smell of mate. You know you want it, wolfy."
Yup. She definitely has something mentally wrong with her.
Hunter didn't even flinch as he kept up the growling and biting. But as soon as the girl put the shirt near Lucas' head, he shot straight up and grabbed the shirt with his teeth. He jumped away from Hunter and backed up slowly, shirt in his teeth and glaring at Hunter. Hunter looked at him confused as he shifted his gaze from the shirt, to Lucas, to the girl.
His eyes met mine in question and I just shrugged. Hell if I knew what was happening.
He looked warily at Lucas again, but Lucas was preoccupied. Sniffing and nuzzling the shirt like it was a lover. What the fuck?
