Scott POV

After Stiles slams the door, my anger slowly fades away. I breathe heavily, trying to keep control. Eventually, I calm down. I run my hands through my hair, barely able to comprehend what just happened. I'm glad it ended where it did, because if it didn't, I think it could have gotten a lot worse. What happened just then was bad enough. Once my anger has completely faded, my mind plays back on the events that unfolded. I know that I overreacted and judging by the looks that Stiles had given me and the emotions I smelt coming off him, I know that I've really hurt Stiles. The thing I regret most is me putting Stiles down like I did, especially the part about his parents. I sigh in frustration. I do have a tendency to stuff up, don't I? However, this time, I'm still feeling conflicted. I try to piece everything together in my mind. I don't think that Stiles was telling the truth, as painful as that is for me to believe. For some unknown reason, he has tried to accuse Sam of not being what I think and that I shouldn't trust her. At the same time, Stiles' hurt was real. He's my best friend, why would he lie to me like that? Before I go and apologize to him for what I said (to be honest, I'm not sure if he will ever forgive me), I need to go and talk to Samantha. Maybe she will know what is going on. I grab my keys and walk out of my house, towards my motorbike.

I arrive at Samantha's house 15 minutes later. I knock politely on the door. Samantha answers it quickly. She grins when she sees it is me. "Oh, hey Scott. I wasn't expecting you. Please, come in." She says, standing out of the entrance. I walk into the house and look around. Sam leads me into the living room. We sit down on the sofa. Sam holds my hands in hers. "What's wrong?" She asks in confusion.

"Oh, well, Stiles and I had a fight," I begin.

"Oh my gosh, what happened?" Samantha gasps in surprise.

"That's what I'm here to talk about, actually. Stiles said some things about you." I say uneasily.

"What things?" Samantha frowns.

"He said that you're not good for me. That you're bad news. That you're... Possessive." I reply.

"What? Why would he say that?" Samantha asks with a light laugh.

"That's why I was asking you. I had hoped you would know." I say.

"Well, I can assure you that I'm none of those things." Samantha assures me with a smile. Even though I trust her, I decide to listen to her heartbeat as she says that. It keeps a steady pace and never misses a beat. As I thought, she was telling the truth. That makes me feel a little bit better. Suddenly, I remember something else. "Stiles also talked about you taunting him and being mean to him at school. Is that true?" I ask, unsure of what the answer will be. Samantha sighs and looks down at our hands. I frown, starting to get worried. "Well, I'm not going to lie to you Scott, okay? Stiles and I did have an argument at school. Well, maybe more than just one. We ended up getting a detention for it once." Samantha answers. "About what?" I ask, my mood getting lower by the minute.

"A lot of things, but the main topics were our... Secret pasts, our families, our trust issues with each other and the lies we have told people." She replies.

"Wait, what secret past?" I ask suddenly. Of course I know what Stiles' past is, but what is Samantha not telling me? Then again, I'm also keeping something from her, but still. "Well, I can show you if you like." Samantha says.

"Well, kind of anyway." She adds. Sam glances at the glass of water on the table. She reaches her hand out and lifts it up. Sure enough, the water inside the glass mysteriously rises. I gasp quietly. I take a look at her eyes. They are glowing light green, Just like Kara's and Stiles'. "So, in case you didn't know, I'm a mermaid." Samantha states as she lets the water fall back into the glass. "Because I'm 18, I don't grow a tail every time I touch any water or liquid, only salt water. That's why I can't really show you my tail now." She explains. I'm left speechless. Only until recently, I had no idea merpeople existed. Yet today, I find that I have three of them in my everyday life. Well, usually it would be four, but the Sheriff isn't around at the moment. "Wow," Is all I can manage to say. Samantha giggles.

"Oh, and Stiles is a merman." She adds.

"Wait, what?" I ask in confusion. How on earth did she know that? I highly doubt Stiles would have told her.

"Oh, well, my parents gave me lessons about the ocean, as we lived on land for the majority of my life. I've been on land since I was two. Anyway, I learned about the royalty in several kingdoms. Atlantia, the kingdom Stiles came from, just happened to be one of them." Samantha shrugs.

"Did you know about Stiles?" She asks me.

"Uh, yes, I found out a little while ago." I nod.

"So he didn't tell you for a long time? Years even?" Samantha questions me curiously.

"Well, no, but he had his reasons, which were understandable." I say in defence of my best friend. Sam shrugs again.

"Um, I guess I've got something to tell you as well." I begin uncertainly, hoping that Samantha won't freak out.

"And what's that?"

"Well, I'm a werewolf. So is Liam and Isaac. There is a man named Derek who is also a werewolf. You haven't met him yet. He's a bit older than us, so he's not in school. Malia is a werecoyote. Kara is a mermaid, Kira is a kitsune and Lydia is a banshee." I say quickly. Samantha blinks twice before responding.

"Wow, that's a lot to take in," Sam comments as she runs her hands through her hair.

"I thought I was the most interesting creature out there." She laughs.

"You are." I assure her as I kiss her on the cheek.

"Thanks. Is there anything else you need to know?" Sam asks.

"Well, Stiles, Kara, Lydia, Kira, Isaac, Liam, Malia, Derek and I are a pack. I'm kind of the leader. We work together when there's a monster in Beacon Hills and stuff like that. We are also really good friends. We're more like family. Kara is quite a recent addition though." I explain.

"That's cool," Samantha grins.

"Yeah, it is." I agree with a nod.

"Do you think I could be a part of the pack?"

"Do you want to be?" Samantha nods her head eagerly.

"Well, I think it would be great if you joined, but it depends on what everyone else thinks too. I don't like to make decisions without everyone else unless I absolutely have to." I admit truthfully.

"Oh. Well, I guess most people would say yes. Maybe Stiles won't though." Samantha sighs sadly.

"That reminds me. What is going to happen between you two? Do you think you will be able to resolve whatever problems you have?" I ask worriedly.

"Yeah, I'm sure we can. As for the things he was arguing about with you earlier, maybe he's just thinking from his biased perspective. You have to admit, a lot of people do that these days. Even though the things he said weren't necessarily true, Stiles thought they were. He came to you with the best intentions, trying to look out for you. He's quite protective of you, I must say. I think you're lucky to have him as a friend. Stiles is obviously lucky to have you as a friend too." Samantha smiles comfortingly. "Really?" I ask hopefully.

"Really." Sam nods. I grin. I suddenly feel a lot better.

"Thanks, you're the best." I say before giving her a quick kiss on the lips.

"I have to go, I'll see you later!" I tell Samantha before rushing out the door. As I get on my motorbike I hear Samantha shout goodbye from the front entrance. I wave to her as I drive past. I rush towards Stiles' house. I feel nervous as I park in the driveway. What is he going to say? How is he going to react? Will he ever forgive me? I feel awful for what I said. I wish I could take it back, but obviously that's impossible. I take a deep breath and walk up to the door. I knock three times. Shortly afterwards, someone opens it. I find that it is Kara. Despite it being almost pitch black now, I can make out her features enough to see that she looks very annoyed when she sees me. I assume she must have found out what happened earlier. "Oh. Hi Scott." Kara mumbles quietly, folding her arms across her chest. Oh boy, this is already going great. "Hey Kara, I came here to see Stiles."

"Well, I don't think he wants to see you." Kara states.

"It's okay Kara, let him come in." A familiar voice replies from upstairs.

Stiles POV

I hear someone knock on the door. I walk out of my room, wiping away the last of my fresh tears (I have cried a lot in the past few hours, don't judge me), but I stop at the top stair because Kara called out that she would get it. I watch from the darkness as she opens the door. A tall, shadowy figure stands in the doorway. "Hey Kara, I came to see Stiles." My heart skips a beat when I realize it's Scott. What is he doing here? "Well, I don't think he wants to see you." I hear Kara reply. Before either of them can say anymore, I decide to intervene. "It's okay Kara, let him come in." I call down to them. I hear Kara sigh as she steps aside for Scott. She switches the hallway light on. I can now see Scott and Kara very clearly. Scott looks up at me with his sad puppy eyes. They become even more sad when he sees that I have been crying. I walk down the stairs and over to the duo. "I'll leave you two alone." Kara says before she rushes upstairs. I fold my arms over my chest.

"What are you doing here? What do you want?" I ask coldly. Scott looks slightly hurt by my tone, but I don't care. He hurt me a million times worse today. "I... Came to apologize for what I said earlier. I really overreacted and I know I screwed up. I am so, so sorry." Scott tells me. I quietly sniffle.

"Why? Your opinion seemed pretty clear." I ask, still feeling hurt. Not to the point where our trust is completely broken, but enough to make me not easily forgiving. If it was completely broken, well, then it would be pretty much impossible for Scott to win me over again. Sorry, it's a merfolk thing, not a personal thing.

"Even so, I shouldn't have said those things. It was stupid for me to say them. I crossed a line. I really wish I could go back in time so I could do it again differently, but I can't, so I have to try my hardest now to make it up to you." Scott replies. I'm silent for a moment, not unfolding my arms. "So, do you believe me then?" I ask.

"Some of it, yes. Some of it, no, but I can understand why you would think those things." Scott answers. Well, I wasn't expecting that. I frown in confusion. "Wait, what?" I ask, my curiosity consuming me.

"I talked to Samantha. She admitted that you two haven't been getting along at school, but she said that it could be resolved. She also mentioned that you probably said a lot of those things because that's how you saw it from your point of view, even if it wasn't exactly true." Scott explains.

"So, she thinks that I gave an extremely biased opinion?"

"Yeah, pretty much."

"Did she really tell you all of that?" I ask, still throughly confused.

"Yeah. She was pretty understanding of it all. She made me understand it." Scott smiles.

"Huh..." I comment, wondering why Samantha would tell Scott to look at the argument from another angle. I know she didn't tell Scott the whole truth, but she did help. Why would she do that? That doesn't sound like her. I thought she'd like to see our friendship burn and die. I'll need to ask her when I see her next. "I am so thankful that she cleared up that for me, otherwise I might still be annoyed with what you said, but I would have come and apologized anyway, because I know what I said was wrong, probably a lot worse than what you said about Sam. I don't like being annoyed at you or when I hurt you. It makes me feel horrible." Scott admits. I sigh and continue to look at Scott. His eyes are wide and full of hope and anticipation. He is really wanting me to forgive him. I can see that he really regrets what he has done and that he will try not to let it happen again. That's all I can really ask for. "So, can you forgive me?" Scott asks, breaking the lengthening silence. After another moment, I finally answer. "Yeah, I'll forgive you." I say with a small smile. Scott closes his eyes and sighs with relief, a smile spreading across his face. When he opens them again, he moves forward and pulls me into a tight hug. "Thank goodness. I don't know what I would have done if you had said no," Scott mumbles into my shoulder. I continue to hug Scott tightly. Eventually, we let go. "Are you okay now?" Scott asks me.

"Yeah, I am. Thank you for apologizing, I appreciate it." I say with a smile. Scott nods in understanding.

"What about you?" I ask Scott.

"Yeah, I'm just relieved I didn't screw up anything for good. Well, I hope so anyway." I can't help but chuckle at that.

"Oh, there was one other thing. Do you really think that you and Samantha can work out your differences?" Scott asks me hopefully. I consider it for a moment. In a normal situation, I would say not in a million years, that girl can go rot in hell for all I care. However, this isn't really a normal situation. It's Scott. I know that I can put up with a lot, probably too much if it means that he is happy and not in pain. I feel like I've been telling myself this so many times recently. With that said, I have made my decision. I will try my best to get along with Samantha and try to set aside our differences. I just hope she does the same. We can be friends if she puts the effort in. Well, she doesn't need to put effort in, she just needs to stop harassing me and then we can be cool. "Yeah, I think we can." I nod. Scott smiles.

"That would be awesome if my girlfriend and my best friend actually got along." Scott laughs. I join in with him, even though I feel the slightest pang of hurt. I still wonder what would have happened if I told Scott how I felt sooner. Because now, even though we made up, I'm pretty sure it's too late. I can tell he really likes Samantha. I need to learn to be okay with it.

"Anyway, it's getting late, so I'll let you do what you have to do." Scott eventually says, stepping closer to the door.

"Alright. See you at school." I reply and wave as Scott leaves the house. I close the door behind him. I slowly walk back up to my room, feeling quite a bit better than I did before, even though there is still a heavy feeling in my heart due to the fact I have to see Scott and Samantha together and that Scott still doesn't believe what I said.
