Chapter One Hundred & Thirty
Elijah and Klaus both froze when they walked into the courtyard.
Elijah had a horrified expressions in his eyes as he stared down at the body, and I knew why. He had become a little more sensitive to this type of thing since he found out about the red door. But this expression faded as soon as it came.
Klaus walked forwards and picked up the note that was laid on the slaughtered girl's chest, and read it, then handed it to Elijah with a defeated look.
"Roses are red,
Lavender is blue,
Come find me before I find you."
Elijah read the short little poem aloud, and he sighed a little before handing it back to his brother. He knelt down to the body, inspecting exactly how the girl had died. He saw the slices on her wrists, and he looked up at me. He had told me how Aurora had become a vampire, so this wasn't surprising to any of us.
"I remembered her a better poet," Klaus muttered, continuing to look at the page.
"I would say that this is very poetic, Klaus," I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest.
"She wants us to find her, so let's," Klaus said, glancing at me and patting his brother on the shoulder before walking away. He stopped when Elijah spoke, and I swallowed. I knew what he was about to do.
"Are you so eager, Niklaus?" Elijah asked, and Klaus turned, a bit of irritation coming over his features. "The last time you even said her name was a thousand years ago, when you told me never to speak it again in your presence."
"So I'm to wait as she leaves her little calling cards all over my home?"
"There's something that you should know," Elijah said, looking down at the body again before standing to his feet. He looked at me, and I gave him a soft nod in assurance. I wouldn't let them harm each other. "When mother seized control of my mind, unleashing those monstrosities that lurked behind the red door, I saw something... Aurora was there."
"If you mean to confess a thousand-year-old secret that will divide us after our hard-won reconciliation, then te absolvo, brother. There is nothing that you could have done involving her that would be worse than what she did to me."
"Klaus, please don't just dismiss this. You need to-" I started, but he cut me off.
"Whatever it is, it can wait! We have a plate of here-and-now problems, and I mean to clear it," he said, sending me a soft smile before clapping Elijah on the shoulder affectionately. "If it makes you feel any better, we can all kill Aurora together! Then none of us need to play her little mind-games ever again, hm?"
He soon rushed to the door, leaving the two of us alone. He was preparing to kill his ex, it seemed.
Once he was gone, Elijah sighed a little, putting his hands in his pant pockets. He seemed rather unsure of himself, but at the same time, almost relieved that he hadn't told Klaus yet. I walked over to him, and stood by his side.
"Don't worry," I told him. "He will forgive you when he finds out. I know he will."
"How can you be sure?" he asked, his tone in a whisper. He truly was worried.
"Always and forever, remember?" I said, smiling a little. "If the two of you have lasted this long, you won't be torn apart by one secret. One indiscretion cannot destroy a thousand years of the love between brothers. He will forgive you eventually. Just as you and I forgave him," I took his hand from his pocket and held it in mine as an act of comfort.
He nodded slowly, the anxiety in his eyes fading ever so slightly. He wasn't completely convinced, but I had put him at ease. That was good enough for me.

Klaus had been gone the entire day. We had gone with him to the market, which was full of people on the day of this particular festival, but then he went off on by himself.
We both knew he could take care of Aurora on his own. Plus, we had no idea where that troublesome little hybrid went. Elijah simply couldn't relax, knowing that his brother was with the woman that could potentially ruin their bond forever. His words, not mine. He had been calling Klaus incessantly, until I finally stole his phone and put it in my own pocket.
"Roseia, please give me back my-"
"No, Elijah," I said, shaking my head. "You need to calm down, alright? Aurora telling him is completely and utterly inevitable, we cannot stop it now. He will be angry, yes, but we will coil his rage."
Elijah exhaled, exasperated. He loosened his tie a little. His heart was beating rather quickly now. He was vulnerable now, he was frightened. He made it seem like he was afraid of Klaus' rage, but I knew that he was even more afraid that this would push the two of them apart for good.
My locator spells failed to work on vampires as old as Aurora, so there was only one other option.
"If you want to find Aurora, then we will," I told him. He looked up at me, a spark of hope forming in his eyes. "Tristan and his sister are rather close, are they not?"
"'Close' is the understatement of the year," he stated.
"Well then, who else would know exactly where she is?"
He nodded. "Tristan."
And so we went to the mansion of that little ego-maniacal bastard, only to find an assistant who was rather annoying and persistent on not letting us know exactly where he was. So, Elijah did what he did best, and rid the world of the little new vampire. He decided to be a little theatrical and put the bloody heart in a jar he got from the kitchen in the house of the Strix. Surprisingly, none of them seemed to know we were there. We looked through the assistant's books, and found exactly where Tristan was going that day for lunch. And a few minutes later, Elijah was placing the blood-filled jar on the table in front of the suit-wearing moron.
I sat across from Tristan, and his eyes sparkled with interest when he saw the two of us. He wiped at his mouth with a silk napkin, smiling a little.
"Roseia, Elijah... I didn't know we had a meeting on the books today."
"We don't," Elijah said, the corners of his lips curling into a smile. He took a chair from a nearby table and placed it by Tristan, taking a seat. "Unfortunately, your assistant refused to accomodate me."
He spun the jar around, and Tristan's ever-existent smirk quickly faded. He threw the napkin onto the table in annoyance.
"What would you like to discuss?"
"You've been a little less than forthcoming about the many threats that now face my family, Tristan," I said, narrowing my eyes at him. "I want that to change right this moment, do you understand?"
"A threat to you is a threat to me," Tristan smiled.
"Naughty little liar," Elijah said slowly, his voice taking a dark tone.
"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, I'm quite certain that you know precisely what I'm talking about, Tristan," Elijah said, tapping at his ear. "I can hear that heart of yours racing away."
I pulled out the letter, and placed it on the table. "Right now, I'm almost certain that Niklaus is with your sister," I told him, and Tristan picked it up to take a closer look. "I wasn't even around at that time, and even I know what a volatile combination those two are."
"And you think I'm hiding her?" Tristan asked, cocking an eyebrow.
"Wherever you go, Aurora follows," I told him, not that I even needed to.
"It's true, on her good days. Years ago, Rory fell into one of her dark periods. It's been a long one, and has yet to lift. I saw that she got the care she needed."
"I don't care," Elijah growled. "Now where is she?"
Tristan grinned. "Are you that afraid of what my sister might have to say to your brother?"
"Your sister has a habit of cultivating misfortune," Elijah muttered, his mind trailing to what happened all those years ago.
He shrugged his shoulders in reply. "I can't disagree. And, as it happens, I don't know her current whereabouts, but I know she can't be here. I'm the first person she'd come to."
"Are you really sure about that?" I asked him, and he raised a brow at me.
I had just insulted him, but didn't leave him enough time to reply. Elijah and I both stood up, and walked to the door, leaving him and that godforsaken letter behind.
I knew that this was the calm before the storm. And Niklaus was a god damned hurricane.
