It's happened again
Another madman's run amok
Casting his pain
on every one else.
So what do we do?
Numbed with shock
Dwell on the news
Own some of the pain?
Or carry on eyes cast down
Determined evil won't pull us in?
There's no real choice - evil can't win
So it's carry on; bear our share of pain
But can we really share its depth?
We carry on.
What else can we do?
Not much perhaps
But focus on the things we can
The little things we can control.
A small change here, a kindness there.
Acknowledge and accept
Differences that have divided us.
Doing the little things,
Hoping in our own small way to influence
A tide we can otherwise only regret.
