This is what I picture when I think about what Valin looks like. If you have a better image in mind, feel free to send it to me and I'll change it to suit.
Also, I want to dedicate this chapter to @7rt80rt for the comment on chapter 11.
Valin's pov...
I stared at her, scared witless at the moment. She rose from her seat, and stepped in front of me; "You disrespected me in my own home and do not feel, that because you are Thorin's personal servant, I am not to discipline you" she spat. "No mam, that is not true. I did not mean to disrespect you in any way" I said in an almost pleading voice, begging her to see reason.
"This is a misunderstanding; I would never disrespect you in your own home, mam!" I cried out; she merely scoffed before spinning back and slapping me hard across the face. I fell to the floor with a thump; "Leave us" she said and the men left the room, the sound of the door closing echoed through-out the hall.
"Bring in the girl" she called and a door to the left of the hall opened and Julie was dragged into the room; by two other men; they tossed her to the ground beside the Mistress of the House. "Tell me girl, what is the punishment for disrespecting a head of this house?" The mistress asked and Julie looked at the floor before her.
"The punishment is whipping" she breathed out and the mistress smirked; "What was that, girl?" she asked Julie, gripping her by her hair and yanking it, causing Julie to cry out in pain.
"The punishment is whipping, Lady Sheela" Julie answered as clearly as she could, with tears pouring down her cheeks. "Very good" Lady Sheela said, and released her. "Get this filth, back where she belongs" she said and the men came forward and took Julie back through the doors.
But before she left, she gave me a look of guilt but I turned away. The men came back and picked me up, before following Lady Sheela out the door and to the back. They took me down to a sunken pit; there was a torch beside a stone doorway.
Lady Sheela took it up and led us into the dark hole. The smell of blood and death seemed to hang in the air. There were cells on both sides, but most seemed empty of life; there were few with living people inside.
The people in the cells, backed away quickly as the light was shone on them; but that did not mean I could not see them. They were covered in dried blood and dirt, their hair matted and their skins scared; they were thin with sunken eyes.
As we walked into a better lit room, the sound of a pleasure-filled cry and a man grunt of pleasure were heard. Over to the other side of room, a man had discarded a woman's limp and tired body; he swiftly pulled up his pants and turned to us.
"Hamill, I see you have finished pleasuring yourself with yet another whore" Sheela said, amused and Hamill chuckled. "What can I do for you milady?" he asked, kissing her hand; "This one is in need of a whipping, she has disrespected me in my own home" Sheela said as she gestured to me.
"Bring her over here" Hamill said, and the man took me to the center of the room. Hamill grabbed me hand and cuffed them together with large iron chains. He then latched the chains to a large hook attached to the roof of the underground room.
Pulling a leaver on the wall, forced the hook higher, leaving me dangling almost a foot from the ground; he then moved from the wall and stood before me, his hands moving from his side and to tightly grip the top of my new dress.
With a slight grunt, he ripped the dress straight down me body, leaving me in my light chemise. "Bring her in" Sheela ordered and once again, Julie was brought in.
"Look what you did girl" Sheela taunted, and Julie's eyes widened at the sight of me. "Valin" she whispered and I looked away from her and glared at Sheela. "Why would you bring her here?!" I asked, all my fear and respect for the woman disappeared immediately.
"To show you, that you have no one here to protect you" she said and Hamill picked up a whip from the bench with all different types of blood covered tools. "Mother do not do this" Terni's voice rang out as she pushed the door open. "Thorin will have your head for this, mother" she told the elderly woman, her eyes scanning the room.
"What Thorin does not know, would not hurt him" she said with a devilish smirk, giving the order to Hamill. A sharp sting, followed by searing pain hit my back; a strangled cry broke from my lips as I pulled on the chains keeping my hand secured. This happened five more times before Hamill stopped.
"I did not say to stop!" Sheela said and Terni turned to the elder woman. "Mother, this is madness!" she screamed at the woman. "Hold her" Sheela said and the man that brought me here grabbed her, ensuring she would not try to help me.
"Now, whip her, until I say to stop" she ordered Hamill who obeyed. Each flick of the whip brought horrible pain. I had lose count of the amount of lashes I had received after reaching twenty-three, my cries were turning silent and I could see my blood beginning to drip down my own leg.
I was beginning to lose consciousness when. "Stop" Sheela's shrill voice called out and Hamill stopped immediately. "Take her down and I want her wounds cleaned, Thorin is never to know about this" he said before leaving the room, the men all following after Hamill took me off the hook and allowed my body to fall weakly to the ground.
Terni and Julie rushed to my aid, "We need to clean her up, she will die of blood loss" Julie cried and they helped me up. As we got to the short wooden staircase to exit the pit, I felt as though I was plummeting towards an abyss as I lost consciousness.
