Chapter 59

The phone ranged, I was waiting for Mrs. Louis' answer. The phone ranged, it took 6 rings until she finally picked up.
"Finally I got through, Kaitlin?!" She said, it was windy on her side of the phone.
"Uh, Mrs Louis! Um... Luke needed an urgent operation," I said.
"What?! An operation?!" She yelled.
"It supposed to be a type of intussusception, they said he would be okay since they were able to have surgery soon after the symptoms developed. The operation is going to end soon, and Nick came here, he's been with me." I said.
"Anyways, we are coming back right away!" She said.
"Right away? Aren't you in Rochester? I think you've missed all of the bullet trains." I said to her. "Where are you right now Mrs. Louis," I said, it seemed like there was a tornado on her side of the phone.
"Don't worry about it. Whatever it takes we will definitely arrive to Manhattan! Please take care of Luke until we come back!" She said.
"Take care of yourselves too, Mrs. Louis?" I said after the call got cut off. I felt a hand on my forehead, I got pulled back, I felt by back hit someone.
"Thank you, Kaitlin." I heard Nick voice. I suddenly felt comfort, my nose ached. That was something that happens when I cry. I sniffed.
"I was scared." I said, I felt him lay his head on mine. He was a lot taller than me, but it was soothing. I quickly turned around and hugged his waist. His hand went on my back, "I was scared." I managed to choke out. His other hand went around me too, "Nick I was scared," saying those words I knew were going to help me, get over my current state.
"Everything is okay now," he said. I was so scared.

The surgery was finally over Nick had gone inside to talk with the doctor.

(P.S everything that happens between The doctor and Nick, Kaitlin doesn't know about,)
"He can move to the general ward tomorrow, it was a success. You should go home tonight," the doctor said.
"But..." Nick responded.
"You can't stay in the ICU room, and there is nowhere for you to stay overnight. Please come back tomorrow morning," the doctor added.
"I understand, Doctor, I really appreciate it." he said.
"Anyway, I'm glad that the young lady made a quick decision and brought him here." Nick looked up at him. "It not a serious condition if we find it early, but there are many cases that people treat it as a normal stomach ache. It's a curable illness but could end up being fatal. Especially when it happens to a child. Your little brother is very lucky, you should be grateful to her." The doctor said to him.

I was waiting for quite a while, until I saw Nick turn a corner. I got up and went to him.
"How was it?" I said looking up at him.
"He's fine now," he started walking. "He will be able to move to the general ward tomorrow." He said.
"I will stay with Luke," I said walking behind him.
"They said that can't be done," he stopped to look at me.
"But. . ." I added.
"We should leave the rest to the professionals, Luke is going to rest for a little while. -So you should get some rest. Let's go, I'll take you home," he said walking again. I followed him out the door, it was snowing.
"It's snowing," I said rubbing my hands together.
"It's pretty cold tonight," he looked down at his watch, "We missed the last train, and I don't think we can catch a taxi in this weather. I looked around he was right there wasn't many cars on sight little less taxis
"What should we do?" There was a moment of silence, and I was still looking around.
"Do you want to come to my place?" Nick said. I sighed, wait!
"What?!" I looked at him.
"It's a ten minute walk from here," he started walking, he... Did he... I quickly walked behind him.
After walking more, we finally reached a building, that gave off a comfy vibe. Nick walked up to a door and opened it.
"Come in," he said walking inside. I started to look around he had a vintage painting in the entrance, he had a coat hanger on the door...
"Stop staring at things," I looked at him. He looked away and started walking. This is the apartment the Nick lives in. I'm inside Nick's room, with just the two of us. I sighed.
"Has Elizabeth been in this room too?" I asked standing at the door way. Nick took off his coat.
"No... You are the first one," he said I smiled and walked in closing the door behind me. The bedroom was huge, it could fit about 8 king size beds. I started to take my coat off. "You must be cold, wanna take a shower?" He asked. My jaw dropped, I gulped. A nervousness laugh escaped my lips.
"Ah... Nick you go first," I said to him.
"I can go after you." He said. I stopped taking my coat off.
"No, no, no, this is your place," he just looked at my I out my hand in my pocket and felt my phone and idea made its way into my useless brain. "I-I have to call Mrs. Louis and tell her the surgery was successful." I said pulling it out. "I have to tell her that no one can stay with him tonight. Otherwise she might go to the hospital, right? So please go ahead." I said to him. He left the room.
I took off my coat and sat on the floor. He is taking a shower....and we will spend tonight alone. Well it happened once before at the Louis residence, but this time it's different because this room...has ONLY one bed!
"No, I shouldn't be thinking like this right now," I said out loud the door opened and Nick came inside.
"It was nice..." He said.
"Hmm..." Was all that spilled out. I saw him open a sewer and take out two pieces of clothing.
"The clean clothes... I'm sorry, they're all mine." He said handing the clothing to me.
"Thank you," I said standing up. "Well then... I will take a bath," I said looking at him, he sat down at a table, and read.
I entered the bathroom, and took my clothes off very slowly, the coldness was giving bruises to my skin. I looked at the bath tub. I saw Nick's shampoo, the soap Nick just used. There was a knock at the door.
"Uh! Yes?" I said hiding behind the curtain.
"There is a towel in there," he said. I walked over to the cabinet in the restroom and took out a towel. I smiled I walked back and hit the tubes edge, I fell in.
After I was finished I walked into the room again, I was wearing a long sleeve shirt with joggers, they were long in me since I'm short and I had my hair in a bun.
"Thank you for the bath." I said to Nick, but I wasn't looking at him.
"Sure," he said. "I'm going to sleep," he added. The book he had was placed on a shelf,
"Yes, and I will sleep right here, so you can sleep on the bed." I said. I said signaling to the carpet next the to the table.
"That's how it should be," he said.
"What? You're supposed to say 'I will sleep here so why don't you use he bed." I said, looking at him.
"I was kidding." He said looking at me, " you can have the bed," he said standing up.
"What? Oh no, if I do I would feel bad." I said, guilt washed over me I didn't mean to sound like such a bitch. He grabbed a blanket and placed it on the floor.
"You started this, which one do you want?" He said. "Just go to sleep."
"Um but..." I managed to say.
