Mom called me down for dinner. I walked into the kitchen and sat down in the same seat as I did earlier.
She put a bowl of pasta in front of me and sat down with her own bowl.
Half way through dinner, questions about the boy were still running through my head.
"It doesn't make any sense." I said.
"Gerard, drop it."
"I can't. There's not enough to satisfy me."
She just stared at me. Then her serious face turned into a smirk. "Well- since you're so obsessed with this house- the night of the dance, Mikey will go to the dance with Pete and you will spend a the night in that house."
"You're serious?"
She nodded.
"But isn't that trespassing?"
"Not if no one lives there."
The dance was at the end of the week. I was going to the abandoned house at the end of the week.

"Mom told me you're going to that abandoned house tomorrow night."

"I just need answers to all my questions about it. I wonder about it a lot. And mom told me about the last family to live there. I just think about it a lot and I need to find out."
"Well, I hope you find what you're looking for. The boy, I mean. Mom told me you were asking about him a lot. You know he's probably dead, Gee."
