(TW!! Mentions of drug usage/being high on drugs!!)
I put the needle and syringe back in my backpack, my world spins as the new dosage sets in. My breath shudders as I adjust to the feeling.
"Adrian!" Alyssa calls from the distance.
I groan, "Jesus, can I never have one singular moment to be high in fucking peace?" I mumble. "Coming!" I yell back, struggling to stand up.
I toss my backpack onto my shoulders and walk out of the bathroom. My legs shake as I use the wall to help me walk, my brain feels like it's spinning.
As I approach the cell block, I close my eyes and inhale deeply- trying to hide the fact that I'm on drugs.
Once my brain's spinning stops, I step into the cell block and walk to my cell. I don't see Damien or Alyssa. I sigh and toss my backpack on my bunk.
"I see you had some fun." I hear Damien's voice from behind me. I groan, "Get out." "I'm here to tell you to go to the lounge area, we're making plans." I turn around and look at him. He looks me up and down, "Try to not act so high." He turns on his heel and walks away. "Dick." I mumble, throwing a t-shirt on and walking out of my cell.
When I make it to the lounge area, everyone minus Rick is there, surrounding Carl, Alyssa, and Glenn who are sitting on the ground. Michonne is even there, she's leaning against one of the cages.
Glenn is drawing a map with chalk on the concrete ground of the prison- or Woodbury,
I'm too high for this shit.
Everybody is surrounding him as he speaks. "Now you said you found Tyreese's group here?" Glenn points to a corner on the drawn map.
Okay, so it's the prison.
Carl nods, "Yeah." Alyssa is sitting right next to him, crisscrossed with like an inch between them.
"We secured this." Glenn points to another corner. "He thought he came through here." Carl says, pointing to a box on the map.
"Means there's another breach." Glenn sighs. "The whole front of the prison is unsecure. If Walkers are just strolling in then it's gonna be cake for a group of armed men."
"Why are we even so sure he's going to attack? Maybe you scared 'im off." Beth asks, looking around.
I scoff, "You didn't see the way they were shootin' at us. If they took hostages, they're definitely gonna retaliate." My words are slightly slurred but I don't think anybody notices.
"He had fish tanks full of heads. Walkers and humans, trophies." Michonne looks around at all of us, "He's coming."
Her voice sounds truthful, the look in her eye explains it all.
"We should hit him now." Glenn says. "What?" Beth's voice sounds breathless, nervous.
"It's better to get him when he doesn't expect it than him get us when we don't expect it." I slur, crossing my arms and stumbling a bit as I try to lean on the wall.
"Adrian's right." Glenn looks at me and then at everyone else. "He won't be expecting it. We'll sneak back in and put a bullet in his head." Glenn's voice is full of anger. '
"We're not assassins." Carol says. "No but he is." I grunt. Glenn doesn't respond, he stands up and approaches Michonne.
"You know where his apartment is. You and I could end this tonight."
"Yo?" I throw my hands up. "The bitch's men shot me. I wanna help." Glenn looks at me, "Yeah, sure. You're scary so it'll be good." "Aw." I smile, "Thanks." I slur slightly, rocking on my heels.
Michonne looks from Glenn to me a few times before nodding. "Okay." Glenn whispers, turning and facing everyone else.
"He didn't know you we're comin' last time," Hershel says, looking at the ground.
There's a sort of dread in the air, everybody is avoiding everybody else's eyes.
"And look what happened. Your eye is almost fully swollen shut, Oscar is gone, Adrian was shot, and Daryl's gone."
"You can't stop me." Glenn growls, approaching Hershel. I don't know if I've ever seen Glenn this...not Glenn-like. Seeing him like this makes me realize I'm definitely not over him, or maybe it's the Dilaudid.
"Rick would never allow this." Hershel tries to convince Glenn. Glenn's eyes never falter from Hershel's. "You really think he's in any position to make that choice?" "Think this through clearly. T-Dog lost his life here. Lori too, the men that were here. It isn't worth any more killin'. What are we waiting for? If he's really on his way, we should be out of here by now."
"And go where?" Glenn spits. "We lived on the road all winter." "Back when you had two legs and we didn't have a baby crying for Walkers every four hours." "We can't stay here." Hershel continues.
"Um..." Alyssa starts, standing up. Everyone looks at her. "What makes us so sure that we can't fight him? The five of you left, got Glenn and Maggie-so that's seven of you, and you guys fought their group. I mean, if seven of you can sneak in, grab Glenn and Maggie, and save Daryl n' stuff and only loose one person, we all have reason to believe that we can fight him together." She looks around, "All of us. Not just Michonne, Glenn, and Adrian." She glares at me, "And you're not doing it anyway because I'm sick of you leaving. You always come back injured."
I scoff, "I mean, she's got a point." Maggie sniffs, turns, and storms off without a word, Glenn's eyes follow her.
He thinks for a moment, holding eye contact with Alyssa. He looks at Hershel and narrows his eyes. "Alright." He sighs. "We'll stay put and we'll defend this place...for now."
"Yay!" Alyssa giggles. "Jesus christ, there's no way you're killing anybody." I rustle her hair. "Hey! I could do it." I scoff, "Right."
Glenn crouches back down and tells Carl that they're gonna go to the tombs and search for the breach.
"You'll need some help." Michonne says, stepping forward. "No, in case anything happens, I need you out here." Glenn looks around at all of us. Anger rises in his eyes, "Who's on watch?" He quips. He scoffs and stands up, "Damn it." He whispers, walking away.
Glenn pounds on the main cell door after going to check out the breach, Carl is right behind him. Beth runs over and unlocks the door, Glenn and Carl are covered in Walker blood.
"The tombs outside the boiler room and overrun again." Glenn's voice is breathless. "That whole section had been cleared." Beth mentions, closing the cell door.
"It's a steady stream of Walkers." Carl says, walking over to where Alyssa is standing.
"We're wasting time." Hershel says, sitting at one of the tables. "The Governor's supposedly on the way and we're stuck in here with Walkers."
The Dilaudid has worn off and I'm beginning to pick at my cuticles, Damien notices but doesn't say anything. "Trapped between a rock and a hard place." Carol mumbles.
I lean over to Alyssa, "What the fuck does that mean?" "It means that both options are bad. Dangerous, risky, you know- the stuff you aim for." I scoff, "Nerd." She smiles and runs her fingers through her hair. Carl's eyes follow her every move.
"For the last time, running is not an option." Glenn says, scornfully. "Glenn, if the tombs have filled up again, it may just be a matter of time before they push in here." Carol says matter-of-factly. "Or until some fence gives way." Beth adds.
"What if one of them herds is passin' through...or settled?" Axle speaks up from behind Hershel. "Can't handle that with just the few of us." Carol looks at Glenn with a pleading look.
I'm weighing my options, each of them are either dangerous or stupid.
"Okay," Glenn pants. "Alright we just need to scout out the other side of the prison. Find out what's going on." "You're going out there?" Hershel scoffs. "Take a car and make it quick." Glenn says. "I'll drive." Axel offers, beginning to walk towards Glenn.
"No, you stay here. Help with the fortifications. I'll take Maggie." "You sure she's up to that?" Hershel asks, looking at his feet and then Glenn.
"I can go if Maggie doesn't want to." Alyssa chirps. "No." Carl shakes his head. "Why not?" She turns to him. "It's dangerous." "You do dangerous shit all the time!" "Yeah but...you're not going. I won't let you."
Although Damien and I aren't the best of friends right now, we both look directly at each other, smirking.
"But I wanna help! I never get to help!" Alyssa groans exaggeratedly. "Not this time! You can help when I'm there to protect you." Carl says, his voice firm.
Damien and I's mouths drop open as we look at each other and then back at Alyssa and Carl.
"Fine." She spits. She turns to speak to Glenn but he's not there anymore.
Damien scoots over to me, "They're totally in love." "Oh one hundred percent. Obvious idiots in love." He smiles and looks at me, "So basically we just apologized to each other?" "Yep. Now stop talking about it."
"Adri, tell Carl to stop being annoying." Alyssa jogs up to me. "Carl, stop hiding your love for 'Lyss." Damien snickers.
"Ew! She's like my sister. I'm just trying to keep her safe." I groan, "God you guys act like I'm your mother. Carl, stop being annoying, 'Lyss, listen to Carl." And with that, I turn on my heel and walk outside.
"What the heck?!" Alyssa calls after me, throwing her hands up. Damien chuckles and follows me. Carl and Alyssa follow us too, still bickering.
All four of us stop in the middle of the yard and look out past the fence, "He's still out there?" Alyssa asks. "Apparently." Damien says.
Alyssa adjusts Damien's- well now her red baseball cap. "I wonder why-" A gun shot shoots Axel right in the forehead.
"Shit!" I whisper, grabbing Alyssa and making her crouch down, Carl and Damien do the same. I look out into the distance and see the Governor with a few men around a car, machine gun firing into our fences. The Governor now has an eye patch- probably from Michonne.
There's a man in both guard towers and a man in the woods, all trying to catch us off guard.
I grab my gun; Damien does the same as gunshots ricochet in the air. "Alyssa take cover!" I yell, shoving her and Carl behind the bleachers, Beth runs behind the bleachers as well. Damien and I hide behind a wall, our guns pointed out to the distance.
Bullets are rapid firing in the air, narrowly missing all of us.
Damien runs to the wall opposite and him and I begin firing our guns into the distance. Alyssa looks me dead in the eye as she stands and begins shooting at the guard tower. A man with a machine gun shoots and narrowly misses her head.
The gunfire comes to a halt as we hear the sound of a car driving in the distance. Everybody pauses to listen, slightly hoping that it's Glenn but also praying that it's not.
A white and orange van drives full speed down the gravel path, slamming into both gates and narrowly missing Michonne.
The van parks on the grassy hill and doesn't move. Nobody climbs out, nobody shoots, nothing. Until,
A gate on the back of the van lowers, Walkers begin quickly filing out of the van, filling the courtyard.
"God fucking damn it!" I yell, the sounds of gunshots quickly cut me off.
Alyssa shoots her pistol and gets the man in the guard tower right in the middle of the eyebrows. She celebrates but quickly gets cut off by ducking as a gunshot zooms right over her head.
"Jesus, got reflexes like a damn cat!" I yell, shooting my pistol.
The gunshots slow to a stop as the Governor gets in his car and begins quickly driving off. His car swerves around Glenn's truck as Glenn skids to a stop before driving quickly again.
Michonne and Glenn help Hershel into the truck as Rick and two other people fight the Walkers on the outside of the fence.
As Maggie greets Hershel, all of us approach the fence, staring at the Walkers stumbling around.
(Summary:) Adrian and Damien still but-heads as Glenn tries to take the leader role. Damien and Adrian make up by realizing there might be something between Carl and Alyssa that both Cal and Alyssa don't see or acknowledge. The Governor and his men host a surprise attack on the prison, leaving Walkers in the fences and Axel killed.
