Chapter 35- The Woman

By lizlovestwd

Walkers surround the woman but they're not even paying attention to her.

Well...up until now.

Something must have gathered their attention because out of nowhere, she's fighting for her life. She seems exhausted, she can barely stand as she's fighting the Walkers with a sword-no, a katana

Carl runs out of the prison and runs down the hill, quickly stopping at the gates. Rick suddenly walks away, leaving the girl to fight for herself.

Suddenly, the woman passes out, Walkers surround her limp body.

Carl quickly fires gunshots, killing the Walkers as Rick runs, opens the gate, and runs outside. Him and Carl kill Walkers as they begin to group together.

Without noticing, my feet are carrying me down the hill and to Rick and Carl. Walkers keep coming, piling up- they need some help.

I quickly unsheathe my dagger and begin killing Walkers, buying Carl enough time to run and grab the basket while Rick searches the woman for bites.

"Is she bit?" Hershel asks. "Gunshot." Rick notices the bloody wound on her leg.

I stab another Walker before Carl and I run over to Rick, the woman, and Hershel.

He heaves her up and over his shoulders, grunting as he lugs her into the fence.

She's hot, in a straight way of course. She's got extra thick dreads, dark skin, a cool ass katana, and big lips.

He carries her up the hill as I close the gate behind us and run up behind him. I catch a glimpse of her eyes opening, "Rick! She's awake!" He nods and set's her down, putting her arm around his neck and supporting her as he walks her to the prison.

He makes his way to the door, all of us behind him and says, "Carl, get a blanket. Beth, water and a towel."

Alyssa speeds up to me, "Who's that?" I shrug, helping Rick and the woman down the steps. She looks at me confusedly but then runs to Damien, seeking a better answer.

Carl grabs a towel out of the laundry cart and lays it on the ground, Rick and I help the woman lay down safely.

"She's not comin' in the cell blocks." Rick orders. "Jesus." I mumble, stumbling over her feet.

Beth hands Rick a water bottle and he pours a little over her chest, helping her wake up a little more.

She begins to breathe heavier, the unfamiliar room overwhelming her brain.

"It's all right, it's all right." Rick reassures. "Hey, look at me. Look at me." He has a soft, comforting tone to his voice.

"Who are you?" He asks. The woman begins to breathe heavier as Rick says, "Hey, it's all right."

She quickly reaches for her katana but Rick kicks it out of the way and holds her arms down. "No. We're not going to hurt you unless you try somethin' stupid first, alright?"

"Rick." The familiar rasp of Daryl's voice calls from the cell block. We all turn and look at him, "Who the hell's this?" Daryl asks.

"You wanna tell us your name?" Rick asks, the woman slowly sits up, glaring at Rick. "You wanna tell us your name?" He repeats.

She doesn't move or say anything, she just continues to stare at Rick.

"Y'all come on in here." Daryl nods towards the cell block.

"Everything alright?" Rick asks. "You're gon' wanna see this." Daryl says.

Rick nods to Beth, "Go ahead. Carl, get the bag."

All of us make our way into the cell block, Rick follows shortly after.

Daryl closes and locks the cell door, leading us to one of the cells.

I stand next to Rick and peer into the cell, Carol's alive self peeks out of the bunkbed.

She laughs weakly and stands up, using Rick for support as he hugs her. "Thank god. Thank god." He whispers, hugging her tight. I glance over at Daryl and see him hiding a smile, a rare sight.

I chuckle, "You're cute." "What?" He asks. "I said you look like a fruit." Everyone looks at me. "That doesn't even make sense." Daryl scoffs, shaking his head.

I hear Alyssa giggle behind me so I elbow her lightly. "Cuties." She whispers. I don't respond, I just smile lightly.

"How?" Hershel asks, hugging Carol. She laughs lightly, "Solitary." "Poor thing must've fought her way into a cell. Must've passed out. Dehydrated." Daryl explains.

Carol smiles at the sight of Lil Ass-kicker. She quickly turns to Rick but her smile fades as she sees the pain in his eyes as he avoids her gaze.

A slight cry escapes her lips as she cups Rick's face, "I'm sorry." She whispers.

Beth gently hands Carol the baby as Carol cries, Alyssa wraps her arm around Carl.

Carl looks at Daryl, "Daryl?" Daryl looks at him, "What's up." "What are those scratches on your back?" My face drops and I look away, Damien snorts. I guess Carl saw them through Daryl's missing sleeves.

"Spider bite." Daryl quickly responds. I see Rick crack a smile as he glances between Daryl and I.

"Oh my god." I whisper, quietly enough that only Damien hears it. I bury my face in my hands and laugh, quickly looking up at everyone who is staring at me.

"What's wrong, spider?" Damien smirks. "Kill your fucking self." I say through gritted teeth. Rick chuckles through his tears but thankfully nobody says anything. Carol smiles and nudges Daryl's shoulder.

Both Alyssa and Carl don't get the joke, thank god

"I'm gonna go check on the woman." I say quickly, turning and walking away. I hear them all chuckle, minus Daryl.

"'s a good idea to follow her." I hear a raspy from behind me, I look back and see everyone following me.

"We can tend to that wound for you." Rick says to the woman, who is now sitting in a chair at one of the grey octagonal tables with a rag on her thigh. "Give you some water, food, and then send you on your way. But you're gonna have to tell us how you found us and why you were carrying formula."

"The supplies were dropped by a young Asian guy with a pretty girl." Hershel stands up at the woman's words. "What happened?" Rick asks. "Were they attacked?" Hershel questions as well.

"They were taken."

My heart stops.

I swear to fuck if anything happens to Glenn.

"Taken? By who?" Rick asks quickly. "By the same son of a bitch who shot me." She responds without looking at any of us.

Rick crouches into her vision, "Hey, these are our people. You tell us what happened now!" He yells, pushing the rag into her leg.

She quickly stands up and points a finger in his face, "Don't you ever touch me again!" She yells. "You'd better start talking. You're gonna have a much bigger problem than a gunshot wound." Daryl responds, aiming the crossbow at the woman.

The woman glares at him, lowering her finger. "Find 'em yourself." She grunts. "Hey, sh, sh, sh. Put it down." Rick whispers, putting his hand on the crossbow and slowly lowering it.

Rick approaches the woman, "You came here for a reason." He says as she backs up and grabs ahold of a cage next to her. She avoids his gaze. Finally, she talks. "There's a town. Woodbury. About seventy-five survivors, I think they were taken there." "A whole town?" Rick asks.

"It's run by this guy who calls himself the Governor- pretty boy, charming, Jim Jones type." Her voice is dripping with a slight southern accent.

Sounds like a cunt in charge of other cunts.

"He got muscle?" Daryl asks. "Paramilitary wannabes. They have armed sentries on every wall." "You know a way in?" Rick pushes. "The place is secure from Walkers but, we could slip our way through."

Walkers? I thought we were the only people who called them that.

"How'd you know how to get here?" Rick asks. "They mentioned a prison, said which direction it was in, that it was a straight shot."

Rick doesn't respond for a moment before he points to Hershel. "This is Hershel, the father of the girl who was taken. He'll take care of that." Rick motions to her gunshot wound before turning on his heels and walking away.

I follow everyone as they walk out of the lounge area.

"How do you know we can even trust her?" Oscar asks. We've all gathered on the opposite side of the cell block, standing in front of the stairs.

"This is Maggie and Glenn. Why are we even debatin'?" Beth pleads. "We ain't. I'll go after them." Daryl responds. "Well, this place sounds pretty secure. You can't go alone." "I'll go." I speak up. "Me too." Beth says. "I'll go too." Axel says, looking at Oscar. "I'm in." Oscar grunts.

Rick looks around, "No, Adrian, Oscar, Daryl, and I will go." "Oh, shit really? Sick." I say, putting my bow and arrow across my chest.

As I'm loading things in the car, Alyssa taps me on the back. I turn around and she hugs me, "Please be careful." She says, burying her face in the crook of my neck. "As careful as ever." I reassure her.

Damien walks up to me, "You're a badass, you know that right?" I scoff, "Thanks." My eyes narrow and I glare at Damien, "Don't ever call me spider again, asshole." He laughs, "I promise. Just don't die." "I promise."

All four of us, including the woman, climb in the car and head off, the suspense is causes my heart to race.

After a few minutes, Rick pulls the van over and parks it. We all climb out of the car, "They have patrols. We're better off on foot." The woman says, putting her Katana around her chest.

"How far? Night's comin'." Rick asks. "It's a mile, maybe two." Rick grabs the bag of flash bombs and smoke bombs, and we all head off into the woods.

I fall into step next to the woman. "So... you gotta name?" I ask. "You got one?" Before I can respond, Rick quickly whispers, "Down!" And we all crouch.

"Formation. No gun fire." He says, quickly stabbing a Walker in the head with a machete.

I shoot my bow and arrow at a few Walkers, stabbing a few with my dagger. "

"This way." Rick points through an opening and we all quickly rush through, not breaking formation.

The Walkers quickly rush after us as we run through the woods. "Through there, come on!" Rick points to a barn outside of the woods.

Rick kicks the door open and we all rush in, "Keep it down. Keep it down." Rick whispers.

I gag slightly as the smell of rotting corpses seeps into my nose. "The smell... it's loud." Daryl grunts, walking in front of Rick to explore.

There's a dead creature on the ground in front of a fire place, "What the hell is that?" Oscar asks.

"Gotta be a fox, or what's left of one." Daryl says, inching closer to the dead animal. Rick shines his flashlight on a dead dog, "I guess Lassie went home." Daryl mentions.

"Thank fuck Alyssa's not here." I whisper.

The sound of Walkers pounding at the door catches our attention. Rick whispers something and motions to a bed.

He grabs the blue, floral blanket on the bed and quickly rips it off. A man quickly stands up with a shotgun in his hand. "Who are you?! Get out of my house!" He yells. "Okay, okay. We don't mean any harm! We can't leave right now." Rick tries to de-escalate the situation. "Now!" "Shut him up!" Michonne whisper-yells.

"Get out right now!" "There are Walkers outside!" Rick admits, trying to get the man to calm down. The man quickly looks at the door, the sounds of Walker growls and fingernails scratching at the doors and walls fills the air.

"I'll call the cops!" "I am a cop. Now I need you to lower the gun. Don't do anything rash." Rick says, slowly dropping his weapons. "Everything's fine, let's just take this nice and slow, okay? Look at me. Hey, hey." Rick's voice is calming as the man is looking between all of us.

The man cocks his shotgun and point's it at Rick's forehead. "Show me your badge!" "All right. It's in my pocket. It's in my pocket. Now I'm just gonna reach down nice and slow."

I get sick of the man, so I release my arrow and pierce him in the skull. Everyone looks at me, "What? He was annoying as hell."

Daryl rushes over and looks through the windows that have ben boarded up. He looks back at us, "Remember the Alamo?"

"Here, help me with the door." Daryl runs and helps Rick grab the man. "You gotta be kiddin'." Oscar says. "He's dead. Check the back." Rick whispers nodding to the opposite side of the house (slight barn).

Oscar quietly runs over to the red back door and opens it. Light seeps into the house, "It's clear." He speaks. Daryl and Rick heave the man up and the woman opens the door. They throw the man outside and we all quickly run out the back door.

We quietly pass the Walkers that are tearing the man apart, careful not the make any noises.

We finally make our way into the front area of Woodbury. The sun has fully set, and the air is crisp and chilly. We trail along the walls, careful not to make any noises.

We crouch behind a car as a light shines right next to us. Men stand on top of a cargo van with tires stacked in front of it, walking back and forth.

The light moves and we're in the clear.

"Go." Rick whispers.
