Chapter 1 part 2

Samuel

Samuel relayed everything he needed under his breath in an attempt to get rid of the burning feeling he was forgetting something.

"Mask, keys, pocket knife, spare weapons..." the list went on for much longer than in needed to. It was no secret that Samuel was over prepared for everything all the time.

"What else is there?" he furrowed his eyebrows so much he looked more silly than upset.

A sound from the other room caught his attention. Music? He took a few steps to go investigate before he was stopped by a sprinting 5 year old running out of the room and smacking into his legs.

"Dad! Dad! Look what I did!" The child's voice filled the room and she held up the source of the sound.

"Ah! I knew I was forgetting something!" Samual beamed. He always felt like he was forgetting something, but he rarely was actually forgetting anything. Anything important at least.

He pulled his phone out of the kids hand, paused the loud music, and crouched to meet the kid at eye level.

"Wow good job Ellie" Samuel thanked his daughter and gave her a pat on the head.

"Alright well I've got to go, Mrs. Amanda should be walking in any second. I lov-"

"Noo!" Ellie whined

"Why do you always have to leave? I never get to play games with you!"

While Ellie was throwing her tantrum Amanda walked through the door.

"I know Ellie, I know. I don't want to leave either but I have to. Now be good for Mrs. Amanda, okay?"

Ellie responded with silence and a failed attempt at glaring at him.

"I love you baby, I'll be back later tonight" Samuel kissed her head and stood up.

"I love you too"

She was upset, but she would never be upset enough to let her father leave without telling him she loves him.

Samuel finished his business with Amanda, saying for the 10th time that week how much he appreciates her watching his daughter, and headed out the door.

Amanda had been watching Ellie for almost a year now and might as well be family at this point. She was young, but not too much younger than Samuel, just 21 years old. She was over with Ellie almost every night babysitting.

It does sound like a lot, but she truly loved Ellie and knew her father was busy. Though she didn't know what he was so busy with, he was very friendly but also very private. Amanda knew nothing of his job, Ellie's mother, or anything else. It didn't seem Ellie knew much either, which made Amanda grow curious, but she never dared to ask any questions.

Samuel, who was known as 'the hero' while wearing his mask, turned into the alley he would be waiting for the villain in. He had changed out of his everyday clothes and put his mask on in a separate alley, just in case.

Samuel wasn't sure why everyone just stuck with 'the hero' and 'the villain' but as far as he cared, they were accurate. No harm done when you're just being truthful right?

He had been trying to arrange a meeting of sorts to talk for the villain for a very long time. He tried finding some kind of social media or email to contact him, nothing. He tried finding family or friends that he could ask about the villain, but you never see the villain talking to anyone. He even tried following the villain back to his home but the villain was scarily good at avoiding that type of thing.

The hero was desperate. It was really ridiculous how the villain could do such cruel things with no remorse, and Samuel wanted to know why. He needed to know why.

Of course he wouldn't phrase it like that if the villain ever actually let them have a conversation.

Frankly, the hero didn't know if the villain would even show up. He would consistently find himself fighting the villain and, in the midst of the fight, started trying to schedule a time and place to talk.

Of course the hero knew this was a inefficient and generally awful way to schedule something like this, but what was he supposed to do? Spend the next year searching for socials and basically stalking the villain?

This was the sixth time the hero had told the villain a time and place to meet, but of course the first five times he just ended up standing in an alley alone for a few hours.

The hero had been standing in the dark alley for almost 30 minutes before he started to leave. It was cold, his kid probably missed him, and he was starting to give up hope that the villain would ever meet with him.

"Leaving so soon?"

The hero whipped around, stopping dead in his tracks.

"You!" The hero wasn't sure what to say. He had been planning all the things he wanted to talk about for so long and now his mind had gone blank.

"You surprised? You're the one who invited me to this shit hole"

The hero looked around. There was a dumpster surrounded by bugs and a metal ladder laying on the ground that he could only assume broke off one of the buildings.

"Sorry" the hero mumbled. He wasn't sure why he was suddenly so anxious, he had so much time to mentally prepare himself!

"You gonna keep staring at those flies or are you gonna tell me why you keep nagging me to meet with you?" The villain spoke in a steady voice, as if he wasn't on edge even in the slightest.

"Oh, yes! I just wanted to clear a few things up"

The hero's voice was the polar opposite of the villains. As much as he tried to push it away, all of his anxiety came out through his mouth.

The villain stared at him, unamused. He cocked an eyebrow at the hero as he leaned up against a wall and put his hands in his pockets.

The hero cleared his throat

"I just wanted to know, and please don't take this the wrong way, but why do you do some of the things that you do?"

"Why do I do some of the things that I do?" The bitterness was now clear in the villains tone

He leaned off the wall and pulled one hand out of his pocket.

"Please stay calm! I didn't come here to fight or to cause any issues. Quite the opposite actually"

The hero took a step back as the villain stared at him with an indescribable look in his eyes. It was hard to see much of them with his hat pulled down to his eyebrows and his mask pulled up to cover as much as possible. However, what he could see sent a shiver up his spine. It was truly a villains eyes.

"What are you referring to when you say 'the things that I do'?" The villain asked, his voice unchanging.

"I mean.. I'm asking because I do believe there may be a good reason!" The hero stuttered and cringed at how pathetic he sounded.

"Spit it out, hero"

"Right! Uh.. a few years back, you shot and killed three people. And before that you stole from Mr. Franks wife. How can you use your powers like that? Why would you want to-"

"Is that his name?" The villain now spoke in an almost playful tone, making the hero question his intentions even more.

"What?" The hero spoke barely over a whisper.

"I never knew his name was Frank, just knew his wife was overly dramatic"

"Excuse you?" The hero's anxiety was suddenly gone and he was angry. Very angry.

"Don't get you panties in a twist, I just mean that there was nothing in the purse anyways. She did all that screamin n' shit for nothing. Plus I didn't use no damn powers for that."

The hero wasn't sure if that made him angrier or put him at a bit of ease, but he took a few steps towards the villain regardless.

"Woah woah hold your horses" the villain put his hands up casually and the hero could just tell he was smirking below his mask.

"I'm sure the purse cost a lot, but it was all still blown out of proportion, don't ya think?" The hero couldn't believe it. All the villain was focused on was the purse and what was, or rather what wasn't, inside of it.

"That doesn't change a thing!" The hero shouted a bit too loud for the villain to be comfortable with.

"You still tried to steal from her! I guarantee she wasn't your first victim either!"

"Okay okay, lower your voice" the villain cautiously looked around and took the tiniest step forward towards the hero.

"No! We are going to stand here until you tell me why! Do you get a kick out of hurting others? Scaring them with your powers?!"

The hero didn't plan to tell the villain this, but his family was actually friends with the Franks. Mrs. Frank talked for weeks about how scared she was during and even after she was stolen from. She really was a sweet lady and she is still on edge walking in public all because of the villain.

"Alright man, I don't know if you've heard of the people who practically live in these alleys, but you really need to stop yelling." The villain begged.

There were lots of gangs through here and, of course, Guzantee's men loved this area. He had the biggest, scariest gang here and, even though the villain and hero have powers, they could put both of them in serious trouble.

The hero stared at the villain for a moment, deciding his next words. As soon as he opened his mouth to speak the villain turned around quick. Without a word he had fled the scene, going further back into the alley.

A few silent seconds passed before the hero heard footsteps quickly approaching and he realized why the villain had retreated. But why did he go further back? Why didn't he leave the alley?

The hero knew very little about these alleys and the people in them, so he ran after the villain without missing a beat.

"Villain!" The hero yelled out. He did his best to sound like he was searching for the villain for another reason than he wanted help.

Surely these people with no powers couldn't do too much right? But then why was the villain so scared?

As much as he hated it, the hero knew him and the villain were on equal grounds when it came to fighting and their powers. If the villain was scared of them, he probably should be scared too.

"Villain!" He yelled out again.

"Where the hell are you, you bastard!?"

The heroes yelling was cut short when a bullet fired and landed right next to his shoulder.

He wanted to turn around and look but knew all too well how bad of an idea that is. He sped up as much as he could, which wasn't much, and took all kinds of turns. He was trying his best to stay familiar with the alley and not go too far from the public sidewalks.

Bullets continued landing near him, but they all landed around his waist and legs. It was as if the people chasing him didn't want to kill him.

"Shit" the hero whisper yelled as a bullet hit right in his calf.

The hero stopped moving, there was no way he could get away like this. He was just about to turn around to fight when he started hovering above the ground.

He found himself surrounded by a blue.. bubble? There were all kinds of different blues swirling around him and it looked like a slime, but when he went to touch it it didn't budge.

He knew what this was, and he hated it.
