"Hey, wake up. Open your eyes," Alec said while patting my face as I passed out in his arms
"Will she be okay?" Clary asked with worry
"She will be Clary," Isabelle said as Alec rushed her to her room and placed her on the bed
After an hour or so I had started gaining consciousness as I moved my hand, there I was yup, at the Institute. In my room with an IV installed beside my bed.
"Izzy, she's gaining consciousness" Alec went out to call Izzy as he saw me looking at him. she rushed in with Jace behind her
I opened my eyes and looked up and found Izzy beside me with worry in her eyes "How are you feeling Veronica?" She placed a hand on my shoulder asking
"Okay, I guess. Thanks to you guys" I thanked her giving her a weak smile.
"Glad you're okay. We got so scared as you passed out." I looked over to my left and found Jace sitting on the edge of the bed
"Sorry to scare you guys out. Promise it won't happen again." I smiled
"At least you're okay that's what matters for now" Seeing Clary sitting beside me on the side listening to her I smiled
"Now take rest. And if you need anything Alec's here. You can tell him. Okay!!" Isabelle said smiling as I nodded and all of them left slowly I looked over to my right and found Alec there looking or more like staring down at me. Making me shiver on the inside as if someone was looking into my soul.
"Hey, you," I said as I looked at him, and smiled
"Hey," he said with a straight face
"Why didn't you go with them?" I asked him raising my eyebrows
"So that you can do something stupid again. Yeah no" He gave me the playful stare
"Oh, so you think I do stupid stuff. Huh"
"I know so, just saw it today," he said sitting on the nearby sofa facing my bed with his hands crossed in front.
"Hmm, but why you? I mean Clary could've been here or Jace or Izzy" Questioning him I gave him a look
"Izzy's busy preparing your medications and Clary is helping her with it. And Jace has to look after something." He said
"Then how come you're free to look over me, than anyone else here" I smirked at him
"Don't be happy that I'm here keeping a watch at you. I didn't have a choice Izzy requested. Besides I don't like babysitting" He said leaning backwards
"Who said I'm happy to see you here? I didn't, and besides, i'm not a kid whom you or anyone else needs to look for. You do need to look out for me. And besides you're not the only one who doesn't wanna be stuck here with you. I feel the same about you" I turned my head around and looked at the door
"If that's the case why did you fell on me and passed out in my arms?" I turned my face towards him and found him close smirking it felt like a lightning was cast just near me
"Well we can't control our bodies when we are about to go unconscious, and I don't even remember the direction I fell in. So if you had so much problem with me then why did you pick me up and were trying to keep me awake this whole time and brought me here? You could've let Jace handle me?" I smirked back
He just nodded and sat back as I exhaled a breath I didn't know I had kept hold of. "What?" I asked him
"Nothing just wanted to see if you're still the same idiot who answers back or not"
"Whom are you calling an idiot?"
"I guess there's only one in this room, and we both know who it is"
"Yeah sure he's sitting right beside me" the moment I said this, he looked at me as I left a chuckle
"Well, I don't believe I'm doing this to you the second time this day but Thank You." I looked over at him
"Sorry what? It seemed as I heard something" raising his eyebrows at me he said as I blushed a little and moved my head to the direction
"You heard it right, not going to say it again" He nodded as I said
"Thank you accepted" he nodded
"But I must say I didn't expect that you could fight. I thought that you would be the same as Clary, but you have some good fighting skills" he exclaimed
"Did I hear it right Alec, none other than Alec Lightwood praising my fighting style? I hope you're okay. You didn't catch a fever did you?" I moved my hand towards him in amusement
"Make fun of it how much you want, but you won't hear it again," he said taking my hand and pushing it back for me to stay like that, as I saw him smile a little from the corner of his mouth after my teasing as I gigle and smiled myself
"Well thank you. I'm a trained Martial Arts since long. And besides there's a lot you guys don't about me" I looked away explaining to him the reason and looking at the door
"Besides Clary isn't that much of an amateur as she seems. She's quite fierce for someone new to all this. She carries herself with confidence and grace and from what I've heard she's made you guys break a few rules also. So for a person new to something doing things this crazy. I don't think she's less in something" I looked back to him as he was staring at my wound
"Anything wrong with this?" I looked at my shoulder and then back at him "No" directing himself to the other, side.
"I hope you're not gonna sneak out after a while and go out again?." He asked
"No, I won't. I'm going to stay here." Looking at the ceiling I responded
After a few moments of silence, I went to sleep peacefully even with the IV and everything finally as Alec saw me for a moment watching me sleep and thinking how scared he suddenly got when I collapsed even though it's just been a day or two that I have been here for. And also surprised that I didn't fight with him when he said about me leaving.
After some time he left the room and went out and closed the door, seeing that I'm sleeping.
"So how did the bonding go" Isabelle came upto Alec giving him the look
"What bonding?" He looked at her
"Looked like you two were talking pretty nicely without killing each other" Jace said following Isabelle from behind
"Don't tell me you guys were eavesdropping on me?" He raised his brow.
"No, the atmosphere in there just seemed calm and silent," Jace explained
"Well, I guess that means I win the bet." Holding her hand out to Jace she claimed as he give her the money
"What bet?" Alec asked looking at both of them smiling
"Jace here said that you guys won't be able to be under one roof with each other without killing each other for long. And I said that it'll be fine and everything will go smoothly." Isabelle stated
"Should I be happy or angry that you guys betted on me?" Alec asked
"Oh come on, it's not the first time that we did it," Isabelle said as Jace and she high-fived
"Well, I'm out of here. I'm done babysitting for now" raising his hands in surrender Alec shrugged and went to his room to relax for a while.
He wasn't exactly able to take a nap as the images of Veronica flashed in his mind and how he got scared for a second seeing her injured and getting so weak as he had just seen her fight so effortlessly and with ease with those guys.
he lay on his bed for quite a while thinking about her and remembering the scene from the fighting till now. After a while of resting, he got up took his jacket hung it on his shoulders and walked up to Veronica's room as the people knowing him looked at him.
As he went in he saw all the other three already sitting in the room with her. "oh hey" Clary said as she saw Alec at the doorstep
"Didn't expect you to be here?" Isabelle said looking over at Alec.
"come on in," Jace said motioning Alec to sit near him.
"thought of checking on her in case she doesn't pull a stupid stunt" Alec explained as Izzy and Jace looked at him "what?"
"just didn't expect you to look over" Jace shrugged
"why are all of you here at once? you don't have anything to do?" Alec asked,
"well all got free a few minutes ago so decided to come here and keep a check on her in the meantime." Isabelle responded "and besides after the wound opened again, it will take time to heal." she said
"hmm" Alec responded
"and as she needs to rest we can't leave her all alone in here in this room, after all it's because of us she was brought here in the first place" Jace demanded looking over at Alec
"I get it"
After a while, Veronica woke up from her sleep and found all of them sitting beside her "hey, how are you feeling?" Isabelle asked
"a little better I guess" as I tried to get up and Jace and Isabelle helped me sit up
"Well, I must say you fight well. you've got some great moves" Jace appreciated sitting by the side
"Thank you, Jace. I appreciate your compliment."
"Well, you did good, even though you're hurt you gave those guys a beating they won't forget and also you" Alec appreciated me as I smiled lightly
"Well whatever happened was for the best and in the best interests of everyone. They got what they deserved. At least now they'll remember the treatment they got and stop troubling people in the neighbourhood" I stated
"hmm" he replied
"but that fight was cool Veronica. I enjoyed watching you fight, you have great moves." Isabelle winked at me and said as I laughed
"Thanks, Izzy"
"btw Izzy for how long do I have to keep this on" pointing towards the needle and IV hanging by my bedside
"I can remove it, you've had enough for now. But you need to get it done again before you go to sleep." she explained
"Thank God. I was getting bored just by being in the room for this long." I let out a sigh as she laughed.
She pulled the needle out and I hissed and saw Alec's gaze getting soft on me
"done" she said that and gave me a cotton bud I applied it to that area so it to not bleed. and took it off after a second
"well, who's ready for a walk now?" I asked looking at everyone
"We all are," Clary said.
"of course, right Alec?" Izzy emphasized Alec's name so that he can't back out
"yes," he said as I smiled
"Now what interesting and nice places does the institute of yours have for people to spend time at apart from training grounds?" looking at Isabelle and Jace I got up from the bed
"I'll show you the ones that we like," Izzy said as grabbed my hand as we walked out of the room and suddenly stopped
"I forgot to introduce you to someone," she said as I saw a woman with blonde hair coming towards us
"Hi, my name is Lydia Branwell. I'm the temporary head of this Institute" the woman held her hand out for me
"Veronica Danvers, nice to meet you." I shook her hand and returned with a smile
"I know you might be thinking who am I. I was out of town for a mission and came back as I got intel on the current situation. Welcome to the institute, I hear you're the daughter of a Shadowhunter and a Witch" she addressed me while explaining
"Yes, I am" I smiled and saw her looking at Alec and smiling as it felt weird to me standing there
"How long do you guys know each other for?" I looked at Lydia and asked in general
"Oh not much time, I just met all of them two weeks ago. And Alec, well" she paused for a second and then continued "we are engaged"
"Yeah, she is Alec's fiancee" Isabelle spoke in between as my eyes widened at listening to what she just said Alec and her have been engaged for weeks now and here he is with me.
"I didn't know about this. Congratulations you two" I replied looking at Lydia
"Thank you. It's normal besides Isabelle likes to tell people much more" she gave Isabelle smile she laughed
As Lydia and Alec started talking, we went ahead and I don't know why but I looked back at them and felt a little something.
"Come" Izzy took my hand as we went towards the stairs and went up and came across a big hallway with rooms on its left side and an open lobby on the other side, we walked and then Izzy stopped in front of a big gate at the end of the hallway.
We entered the room and I saw a big and beautiful Gazebo made of glass covering the room it was a beautiful greenhouse, with enormous types of plants and trees and greenery and so much peace with birds flying over our heads in that place. it all felt as if I had been transported into a jungle as if in the Jumanji world.
