Apple Juice a Day Does NOT Keep the Doctor Away

To say the least, Alex didn't wake me up. He let me sleep until late, and by the time I woke up it was past noon. Dominic still hadn't come back, so, Alex and I were alone.

Truth be told, I was glad it was so, since I and Alex hadn't talked in a while and our conversations weren't very sensible to the sane people. I mean, surely, if they would enjoy a heated argument over whether white sauce is better or red sauce, and mind it, by heated, I mean seriously heated, they were welcome to join us in our world of insanity.

This time, however, we didn't delve much deep into our craziness, for the second he stepped into the door I was certain something was wrong.

His face was covered in bruises, newly formed bruises that too. I almost jumped out of my bed and wrapped my arms around him, but he beat me to that. Tears spilled out of his eyes and I looked at him dumbfound, not sure why he was crying.

'What happened to you, Alex?'

'Nothing, just, ignore that!'

'Ignore your face covered in bruises? Please don't tell me you got into a fight!'

'I might've beaten up a few people, but I am fine, okay, babygirl? Don't you dare worry about me when you're on a hospital bed!'

I nodded, mostly because I felt like I had pained my throat enough for one morning. As the excitement of him being there died down, I started feeling low on energy again. The IVs had been removed in the morning so I felt a little out of it. Other than that, I felt fine. I was allowed to eat again, but only soft items and liquids were allowed too.

Somehow, Alex knew that so he'd brought me my favorite; apple juice. I know I sound like a grandma but hey, I was in a hospital. What was a better way to keep away the doctors other than drinking apple juice?

I climbed back on my bed, and settled down with my feet spread open and my back resting against the bedframe. I started sipping my apple juice and I felt pain and pleasure at the same time. It was great to drink something, but gulping it down still hurt.

Alex started a conversation for my sake. I kept nodding and hummed once in a while in response. He gave me all the details of how everything was with Conner and how everyone was sulking without me at school. I am pretty sure he was just exaggerating that bit. I wasn't that important in anyone's life other than his and perhaps Veronica's.

Alex held on to my hand and pressed a kiss on the back of my palm every once in a while, concern glistening in his eyes. I was certain he'd picked a fight with one of those guys who had hurt me and it made me wonder what I'd done to deserve such a wonderful friend.

Alex filled me on the little details, and we chatted away, well he did most of the speaking while I just moved my head, until my doctor came in the room for doing a check-up.

'Apple juice, huh, very funny!' she spoke with a smile as she noticed the empty juice box on my bedside table.

Apparently, I was not the only one who'd found that funny.

I smiled back at her and she announced, 'You're making a huge recovery, and at this rate you should be discharged by the Monday. However, no swimming or fighting for at least a month after you're discharged. You'll be able to eat and speak properly by then too. Any questions?'

'Just one. Can you please ask her to stay away from all of her attackers?' Alex asked the doctor, who gave a sad smile in response to him.

'I am sorry, as her doctor, it's not my place to tell her who she spends her time with. However, I would highly recommend staying away from all risk factors because she was lucky this time. She might not be lucky the next time.' And with that, she left, leaving me alone to deal with my not-in-a-good-mood best friend.

'So, how's life?' I asked him in an attempt to lighten his mood with a huge grin.

Hey guys, I know it's been long. Please don't kill me.
