Chapter Fourteen

The bar was filled with laughter and chatter, mostly from my three closest friends on the other side of the room. Marcel had just finished singing right as I walked in.

The three of them all saw me the second I walked in, and I quickly highfived Marcel before he pulled me into a hug.

"We thought you'd never show," he chuckled.

I rolled my eyes, smiling. "Whatever."

I hopped onto one of the barstools, with Thierry on my right and Diego on my left.

"Oh, no you don't," Diego smirked, and a second later, I was on his lap. "I missed you." He mumbled, resting his head on my shoulder.

I sighed. "I missed you too. Sorry I was gone, I had to get a few things from Katy's shop."

He nodded, not asking what I needed. I turned around, putting my legs over his thighs. He put his right arm around my waist, as if he was making sure that the other guys in the bar knew I was his. He didn't seem like it, but in truth, he was actually very possessive. He liked it when people knew what belonged to him.

It had been two months since the ordeal with the witches, and nearly three months since I set foot in New Orleans for the second time.

Marcel had complete control over the quarter, even the majority of the humans were loyal when they found out that one of their own was hexed by the witches. They thought that Marcel did the right thing, but at the same time, they wanted Agnes dead. We didn't. At least, not yet.

Diego and I were... Well, I'm not entirely sure how to put it. It was more than friends, but I dislike the words "girlfriend" and "boyfriend". It sounds strange to me. Anyway, Diego and I had a relationship that was far from just friends, and he made sure that every male in the city knew it.

We stayed in the bar for an hour, and by then, the crowd was begging Marcel to sing again.

He jumped up onto the stage, and started to sing the same song he was always performing the day I returned. It brought back memories. "How You Like Me Now" by The Heavy, the song he was singing, was definitely one of my favourites.

The three of us had been clapping along to the song as it neared it's end, when I suddenly felt slightly dizzy. I told Diego I was going to be right back, and then quickly left.

I went into the bathroom, throwing water on my face. I felt better almost instantly, then figured out why I felt like that. This happened sometimes.

I was like Davina. I could sense the power of people, tell what species they were. And right now, something strong was in the bar.

It was strange. I hadn't felt like this since the night that a certain hybrid had finally awoken the werewolf side of himself.

It couldn't be... Right? It's not possible for him to be in the exact same place as me, when he knows that there are thousands, if not millions of places I could be. Unless he wasn't here for me... Oh, god. What the hell did he do now?

Wait... I don't even know if he's here.

Well, I guess I'd better go check.

The very second that I walked out of the bathroom, there he was. Hugging Marcel like a father would with his son. I grinned, but didn't move from beside the bar.

Marcel pulled back. "Niklaus Mikaelson! My mentor, my saviour, my sire!" He paused, then grinned. "Hey, you're never gonna believe who showed up a few months ago," he said, moving aside to let me come into Klaus' eyesight.

Klaus' eyes widened, and he did a double take from me to Marcel, then back to me. "Jo?"

My old nickname... He hasn't called me that in years. Maybe it just slipped into his mind by chance.

I smiled, walking forwards as he opened his arms for me. I hugging him tightly as he encased me, smiling. I saw Diego tense up a little, and rolled my eyes.

I pulled away, only to see Klaus with an almost permanent smile on his face. I was pretty sure that if he smiled even more, he might even break his jaw.

"I see you've both made some friends since I last saw you, hmm?" He said to the both of us.

"Yeah," I smiled. "This is Thierry," He waved one hand at Klaus. "And Diego," Diego, on the other hand, decided to just stare at Klaus. Thierry seemed nonchalant, but Diego seemed angry. Why?

Luckily, Klaus seemed to be completely unfazed by their reaction, and simply smiled at me. People had told me that I was one of the only people he ever genuinely smiled with. Others, he just smirked or the smile was completely fake.

"Come on, let's get you a drink," Marcel grinned, gesturing for all of us to follow him into the back room.

"Actually, I was gonna head out," I said. "It's almost time for the frenzy to start."

Diego nodded. "Yeah, we should both leave."

Klaus frowned a little, but nodded anyway. "I'll be sure to visit later on, Rose. We have a lot to talk about, I'm sure."

I smiled at him, then we both said our goodbyes as Diego and I walked out fo the bar. We had been walking in silence for a while, when Diego decided to speak. "So why did he call you Jo?"

"It's a long story."

He gestured for me to continue, and I sighed. "When I was nearing my seventh century, Klaus' little brother Kol and I got into some trouble. Actually, Kol got into trouble. I was the one who got him out of it. He went to one of the largest taverns in Spain, and drank nearly every human dry. He would have continued, but I snapped his neck and dragged him home. But someone saw us, so Kol and I had to take new aliases, then we moved to another area of the country. My name was Josette, thus the name 'Jo'. I guess it just kind of stuck."

"You've never told me that before," he said. He didn't seem angry about it, but he was kind of nonchalant about it.

"Believe me, if I told you everything I have experienced in a thousand years, we would be talking forever."

He smirked. "Sounds good to me," he said, then stretched an arm over my shoulders as we continued to walk.

*

A few hours later, the frenzy had started.

The DJ had skipped out on us. Well, not entirely, seeing how it wasn't his fault.

He was a human that Marcel had compelled to play the tracks for us, but Marcel was nice enough to give him a nice pay for the nights he worked anyway.

Anyway, he skipped tonight because he was sick. He had gotten a cold, it seemed.

Marcel had convinced one of the nightwalkers to do it, who had kindly asked for my help in picking the songs. He was a nice kid, so I helped him out a bit. It turns out that I'm the only one in the Abbatoir that actually cares (or even knows) which songs are popular at the moment. The young vampires don't care about music, and the nine century old one does. Go figure.

I walked down the stairs of the newest spot we had decided on for our frenzy, a part of the Royal hotel. It was quite the interesting place. I liked it, but of course, I preferred our Abbatoir.

Diego met me at the bottom of the stairs, a smirk playing on his lips. "Finally, you can relax."

I smiled as I reached the floor, stepping down in front of him. "Diego, with you, there is no relaxing."

He shrugged, then grabbed my hand, spinning me around once so that my hands were in his and my back was against his chest. He laid his head on my shoulder, kissing my neck softly.

"Now now," I laughed. "Don't get too caught up. I need to go deal with an angry looking hybrid."

He groaned loudly, letting me go and making sure his annoyed mood was obvious. I walked across the dancefloor, knowing that I could make it up to him earlier.

Klaus hadn't even entered the room yet, but I sensed him as well as his anger from a mile away.

"Klaus, what happened?" I asked him as he came near the entrance, feeling Diego's eyes on my back.

"Marcel," He growled. "I needed to talk to Jane-Anne Devereaux. He killed her, then he had his little friends follow me around like a pair of lap dogs."

Klaus was about to shove past me, when I put my hand on his chest and stopped him. "Woah, woah," I said, furrowing my eyebrows. "Marcel killed her? I didn't even know she was in trouble."

Klaus sighed, obviously frustrated. This time, I let him go past. Of course, I knew that I had made a big mistake when he stalked towards Diego. "Where is Marcel?" He asked, a cold tone in his voice.

"Who the hell's asking?" Diego said, venom in his voice.

"I assume you're joking," Klaus said, narrowing his eyes.

"I only answer to Marcel," Diego said.

Big mistake, Diego.

"Well then, in that case, perhaps you'll answer to this," Klaus said, smiling. His hand suddenly shot out, wrapping around Diego's throat. Veins appeared under his eyes, which had now turned black with yellow hues. "You're aware the bite of a werewolf can kill a vampire, well as you can see I'm half werewolf so I'm gonna ask you one last time! Where is Marcel?!" He hissed.

I darted forwards, grabbing Klaus' wrist and holding it in a grip that threatened to break every bone in his arm. "Klaus," I growled out, right as Marcel ran up to us.

"Hey hey, I'm right here! I'm right here!" Klaus let go, staring at Marcel angrily. "Easy now, Diego's just looking out for me," Klaus' eyes reverted back to their original colour. "Nobody harms my guys, those are the rules."

"I don't care about your rules, Marcel," Marcel didn't like that comment very much. "And I don't need chaperones. Why are you having me followed?"

"Come here," Marcel sighed, pulling Klaus and I off to the side. "I get it, huh, show of force, you made your point. Let it go, friend. Huh? For me."

"Fine," Klaus said, seeming less than happy. "Why don't you show me what've you done with the place? While you explain exactly what it is you've been up to in my town."

Once again, Marcel didn't seem happy. He thought that he owned this town, and Marcel being here was a subtle threat to him. It seemed that he thought better of telling Klaus his thoughts, so he just grinned. "Follow us," he said, glancing at me to make sure I was coming.

Klaus and I both followed Marcel upstairs, and I glanced back at Diego to make sure he was alright. He looked pretty pissed off.

Well, looks like I have one angry vampire to deal with later. What else could go wrong?

I really shouldn't have said that.
