I nervously swallowed the lump in my throat and Bokuto put his hand on my shoulder and nodded reassuringly.
They opened the door and Krista and two other officers went down and we followed behind. Almost hesitantly.
Until we heard screaming.
It was hoarse but almost quiet. "No! Not again! Pl-Please! I haven't done anything!"
"Oh my god.."
There she was, almost unrecognizable. Leaning halfway up against the wall shivering with her arms over her head, trying to protect herself. She was covered in purple bruises and cuts and almost dangerously skinny. But it was her.
Krista tried to calm her down but it was no use. She turned and looked at us and I nodded.
I cautiously walked over to her with Bokuto trailing behind me. I didn't get too close knowing it might make it worse even though I wanted to so badly. I bent down.
"Y/N?"
"Stay away from me!"
"Hey." I spoke softly. "Look at me. It's Tetsu."
She said nothing but didn't move. I knew there was a chance this could make things worse, but I reached out to her. As soon as I touched her she flinched, but I gently grabbed her hand and pulled it away from her head slowly and this time she didn't flinch away.
"Look at me."
She slowly opened her eyes and looked at me. Her eyes were unfocused and her lip was bleeding.
"It's me."
"..Tetsu?.."
"Yeah, I'm here."
My voice cracked and tears rolled down my cheeks. I finally found her. She reached out her hand slowly and touched my face, as if she wasn't sure if I was real.
With her other hand she tried to reach out to me but she was too weak. I gently hugged her and she returned it as best she could.
"Don't leave me." She cried weakly.
"I'm not going anywhere."
I heard Krista behind us talking to the other cops. "Get an ambulance here quickly and see if you can find the key to the chains."
Bokuto bent down beside us and she carefully looked up at him.
"Kou?"
"Yeah."
She reached over to him and he hugged her.
Moments later Krista came over with a key in hand and looked at Y/N.
"I'm going to unlock these okay?" She nodded hesitantly and let her unlock the chains around her wrist.
As soon as she did I saw the irritated and bruised skin where the chains were. Another officer handed Krista a blanket and she gently wrapped it around her.
Bokuto held her gently as we waited for the ambulance.
"I'm sorry.." She trembled and grabbed my hand, but she barely had a grip.
"Why are you apologizing?"
"I m-made you worry.."
"What are you talking about? Of course we were worried." Bokuto said
"Still.. All I've done is been a burden to you two."
"Don't you dare say that. I don't know what he's told you but you are not a burden. You never have been. Well, other than the times you took all my clothes." This made her weakly laugh.
"Y/N," Krista said, "These two never stopped looking for you." She gently put her hand on her shoulder. "We had to force them go home and rest. I think that proves how much they really care about you. You're not a burden to anyone."
"Thanks.."
I spoke up again, "And you better stop talking like that, or else Hikari will kick your ass when you get back."
