Amy's body fell to the ground with a loud thud, as Jayson sent the bullet right into her head. The fear and shock took over Hailie's body, but she managed to not give in to these feelings. She didn't wait for Jayson to point his gun at her. In the moment he fired, Hailie started running, knowing it was her only chance of escape. He either was full of satisfaction because of killing Amy or full of dread due to his actions, because it took him a longer moment, before he realized that Hailie wasn't standing by the stairs anymore. Just like Amy said, she ran to the second room on the right, just beside the room where she woke up.

This room was way more antique than the other one, but Hailie didn't spend her time gazing around. She shut the door closed and quickly moved the small chest of drawers to barricade the entrance. Hailie had no idea how long it would hold up against Jayson, but it should give her just enough of time. She could already hear a loud thud on the floor, and then his heavy footsteps on the stairs.

The wall was full of antique weapons, showing that Declan's dad must be a big fan of those. There wasn't unfortunately nothing Hailie could use. Blade was no use in a clash against Jayson, who had a gun, and she had no idea how to use a rifle.

"There must be something else!" she whispered, full of hope.

"Hailie!" Jayson tried to open the door, but he couldn't get in, because of the chest. "Hailie!"

Her hands started trembling as she was looking through the cabinets and drawers for something to protect herself with. She came to the desk, noticing a penknife next to an ashtray. She put it in the pocket of her jeans, because it might be useful later and it was easy to hide.

"Open the door, Hailie!" Jayson yelled. He stopped banging on them for a moment. "Open the damn door!"

It was hard to hold anything in her hands, because they were shaking so hard. When Jayson suddenly fired a gun, she lost it all. The bullet went through the door, hitting into the window. She screamed and he sent another bullet into the door, now it also hit a statue that fell into pieces on the floor next to Hailie. She collapsed and hid behind the desk, feeling how tears were overflowing her face.

Jayson killed Amy. Hailie couldn't say she liked her, but Amy didn't deserve such an end. Definitely not from Jayson's hand.

"Stop it!" she squeaked.

"Then let me in," he replied calmly.

No way!

"You killed Amy! I can't believe you seriously did that!" It was beyond her imagination. All of it seemed unreal up to the moment, when Jayson fired and killed her. She was dead. Killed right before Hailie's eyes.

"She killed Declan." It sounded as if for Jayson it was a fine explanation. A good reason to kill her too. It wasn't.

"Technically demons killed him," she dared to say, even though she thought that Amy was responsible for Declan's death too. "And they'll probably do the same to you, if you hurt me!" Hailie tried to threaten him, even if she didn't know what was going to happen to her demon friends. They were stuck in Hell with Lucifer. There was a high probability that she'll never see them again, even if she gets out from here alive.

"I'd like to see them trying, considering they're trapped in the house." He wasn't feeling threatened. He believed they couldn't hurt him if he was staying out from the Bloody Mansion. "Besides, they'll never find me. After taking care of you, I'll be gone. Nobody will find yours and Amy's bodies for weeks or longer, because not many people know about this cabin and even less care about this place enough to look here. I'll be long gone, when somebody finally finds you."

It sounded reasonable. Somehow, it even sounded brilliant. That was a good place to hide bodies and because Jayson has plenty of money, he'll have a chance to escape. Maybe he'll be found one day, but for the two of them it already will be too late.

"You can run, but one day you'll end up in Hell anyway. And believe me, it is not a nice place," she warned him, but it didn't matter. There was no salvation for him no matter if he kills her or not.

It was hard to look, because of the tears. She wiped them off her face and slowly opened up the lowest drawer of the desk. Papers, papers and more papers.

"I'll take my chances. When I called Amy, I already knew how this evening was going to end."

Another drawer. Scissors? No, not good enough. She already had a penknife. But she took them out and put them on the floor anyway. Just in case.

"She was your friend!" she yelled back, thinking that playing for more time was a good option.

"She was always saying that, but she wasn't my friend. Declan was."

What a two-faced bastard.

"I didn't do anything to Declan nor your parents."

In the next drawer she found only some bureau materials. She doubted if she could fight Jayson with a stapler.

"And you were not a part of this evening. I have no idea why'd you come with Amy or how you got in the house before me."

The Devil transferred me here was definitely an interesting answer and a one that Hailie wasn't going to use.

"I didn't plan on coming," she just said. "But I suppose you would've found a way to get me anyway, wouldn't you?"

If he was ready to kill Amy, then he was definitely ready to get his revenge on her as well.

"I've got to say, you made everything so much easier." Hunting her would have been so much harder, considering that either she was spending her whole time in the house full of demons or in the company of the police officer, who seemed to be picking her up. Jayson would kill him as well, but that was too hard to achieve, and he didn't care that much for him. After all, Hailie won't be his anyway. She'll be just dead.

"You were always saying how much you love me. Do you really want to kill me?" she asked, because right now it seemed like the only way out alive. Playing on his emotions. But did he even have them? She doubted it.

The last drawer. The last chance. Her hand trembled as she quietly opened it.

"Oh, yes, I still love you. Do you want to know what I want to do?"

Not at all. But she must've made him talk more.

"Yes."

She couldn't see the inside of the drawer, so she put her hand there, trying to find something. Then her hand stumbled upon the thing she was looking for. Hard and a bit heavy. She slowly took it out and looked at the gun belonging to Declan's dad or maybe even to Declan himself.

"I want to make your last moments a living Hell." She shuddered and started walking on all fours towards door. "I'll do with you whatever I please, and after I'm done with you, you'll be begging for death. For everything you've done to me, Hailie, I'm getting my revenge."

At the last words he started banging on the door again, trying to get in. He was trying to force the door and Hailie quickly got up and took a place on the side to the entrance. Her hands were shaking as she put them forward, waiting for Jayson to come into the room. The gun was aimed just at the person who will walk in, but she wasn't sure if she had enough guts to fire it off.

She remembered all the scary things she saw In Between. To her surprise, it helped her calm down. Was Jayson really the worst she had to face? Her hands stopped trembling, as she told herself that this is the only way to get a clean shot.

The chest of drawers was moving with every strike on the door, until it slid further, and Jayson had the chance to walk in. He was looking forward, so he didn't see Hailie at the first moment.

"Stop right there," she said, aiming at him with her gun. He couldn't make a move, because there was a possibility she would fire. He knew that. He wasn't going to find out if she was capable of shooting him. "Not the way you planned?"

"You found another gun." Jayson was already thinking about a way to change their positions. Right now he was losing.

"Put your gun on the floor. Slowly," she ordered, and he actually did it. "Now slid it to the other end of the room."

The gun was no longer within his reach, but somehow that wasn't making Hailie calmer or feeling safer.

"Now what?" he asked, just as if that was a funny joke to him. "You will shoot me?" He laughed, like it wasn't a possibility.

"No, if you're going to cooperate." She just needed to get out of this house. But how? Even if she tells him to move to the wall, it'll give her nothing. He was faster and she wasn't able to take all the guns and rifles from the room with her.

"What's your plan then?" It seemed like he knew that she didn't have many options. With his hands up, Jayson slowly turned to Hailie, so they could stand face to face. "How do you get out?"

"Where's your phone?" she asked, thinking about calling Shane or the police.

Jayson smiled, gazing at her intensively, as if he wanted to rip the clothes off her.

"Maybe I have it in my pocket. Check it if you want." She knew this tone. He was playing with her again. It was all a game for him.

"Give it to me." She wasn't going to get sucked in this psycho game.

But Jayson wasn't planning on giving up either. "Or what?" Hailie was suddenly sure that there won't be any cooperation. "You will shoot me? Kill me?"

"I will," she said, even though she wasn't sure if she was able to do so. Her hands started trembling again and Jayson noticed it right away.

"And will we meet in Hell?" he started joking, like he wanted to throw her off balance. "You're saying that you hate me a lot, but does it mean you won't feel bad about killing me?"

She would. He knew she would. But Hailie was in a hopeless situation. It was him or her.

"I don't have to kill you. Maybe I'll just shoot you in both of your legs. That will be a nice reminder from me, when you get to spend the rest of your life in jail, after the police gets you." Having a gun in her hand, it gave her a little bit more confidence. She lowered the weapon, aiming it not at his leg, but just below his belly. "That's even better target."

"Fine. What should I do, so I won't get shot?"

Hailie tried to come up with a solution. There was only one, truly.

"Turn around and leave the room. You'll go with me downstairs." Then she'll call the police from Amy's cellphone that should be laying in her purse.

"Will I?"

Jayson made one step towards her. Hailie instinctively aimed the gun again at his torso. It was easier to shoot him there and it was her natural reaction.

"Stop!"

"Shot me," he ordered and made another step towards her, while she stepped back.

"Jayson, don't make me do this, because I will." She really didn't want to do this, but he was giving her no choice.

"Then do it." Slowly, but he made another move. She could see in his eyes certainty that he won't get shot. And it made her freak out.

Just as Jayson was about to lunge at her, she pulled the trigger. For a moment time stopped for both of them, but then they realized that nothing happened. The gun didn't fire. Hailie parted her mouth and tried again, but Jayson caught her by the wrist and snatched the gun from her hand. He looked at it and laughed loudly. "You didn't release the safety catch." And then he just threw it across the room, like he didn't need it anyway.

"No!"

He caught her tightly by the throat and hit her body against the glass case filled with collectible airplanes. For a second her vision went black as she felt the glass breaking under the influence of her weight and impact of the hit. The room was filled both with the sound of her moan and the glass falling down, along with airplanes. Her body started trembling out of pain. She would surely fall on the ground, if Jayson wouldn't still be holding her by the throat. He slowly took out the pieces of glass stuck in the back of her skin, making her cry.

"You were really going to shoot me," he said, as if it was hard to believe. Did he really think that she won't do this? He gave her no choice. "Apparently the odds are not in your favor." He touched her gently by the cheek and let go of her throat just to catch her at the waist. She felt weak and dizzy after the hit, unable of any action as he kissed her. "Because you're going to pay for all of this." He meant not only trying to kill him, but also mutilating him in the past.

"Jay-" She didn't get to finish as he hit her in the stomach and she fell down with a loud cry.

"Jayson, please, don't hurt me," he said, parodying her. "Is that what you wanted to say?" Jayson crouched down by her side. "You know I don't like hitting you. You're too pretty to have all those bruises and bloody wounds." He took her soft and beautiful hair at one side. "I'd like to smash you on the ground. To make you hurt more than I was hurt. But I can't," he sighed, like he was in a real conflict with himself. "I love you too much. I desire you too much to treat you like that. You're making it so hard." He clenched his fist, then released it, as if he was trying to stop himself from more violence. Hailie believed he was seriously disturbed. She started thinking that the court might even put him in a mental hospital instead of jail, after he will be found and convicted for his crimes.

"Then don't." It was easy like that.

But she knew that he wouldn't let her go. It was impossible.

"I'll give you a chance, Hailie." Jayson stood up. "Take off your jacket." She looked at him twice as scared. There was no mercy in his eyes. Hailie slowly did as she was told, while Jayson unfastened his belt and took it off. "Now your t-shirt."

Is this how she was supposed to end after all she went through? Raped and killed anyway? There was no way that Jayson would let her go after he gets what he wants. And even if, she wasn't going to trade herself for freedom. She can't go without a fight.

She already won with him once.

She can do this again.

She must.

"Take it off yourself."

He gazed at her like he was wondering whether she was inviting him to go further or trying to pull something off.

"No. You take it off." He preferred to see her undressing.

Hailie remembered about the penknife she had in her pocket. If only she had an occasion to use it.

"No."

Jayson took a breath. "You could've made it so much easier." Without any warning, he hit her with the belt, leaving the bruises on her arms. "Take. It. Off." She looked at him like she was throwing him a challenge, so he hit her again, and she involuntarily screamed.

"You're disgusting. I'd rather die than have sex with you." To emphasize her words, she spat on the floor.

"Well then, you're going to have both." He took her by the arm and made her stand up, so she wouldn't be near the glass. He remembered how she used the broken pieces last time, so he made sure she doesn't have anything in her hands.

But he didn't check the pockets.

Hailie backed up to the wall by the door. "If you want me so badly, then take me," she dared him, knowing that making him come closer was the only possibility to take out the penknife and stab him.

Her resistance made him even more horny. So did her cries and weakness. He came closer, close enough for her to sense the alcohol in his breath. She remembered how she hated kissing him at parties, when he was drunk and out of control. How was she able to be with him in a relationship for more than a few days? The wrong company that she chose in high school was her worst mistake. The wrong friends and even worse boyfriend.

"We could be so happy together," he said, touching her naked arm, and slowly taking his hands all the way down.

Jayson was delusional. It seemed for Hailie as if he lived in some kind of fairytale of his own creation.

She withstood his closeness, his body pressing onto hers, and even his hands on her body. All of it, because it gave her time to slowly reach for the pocket.

"No!" she protested, when he started kissing her on the neck. It made Jayson press on her harder and Hailie an opportunity she was waiting for.

Without hesitation she opened the penknife and stabbed Jayson on his left side. He scratched her arm as he felt a prickle. She didn't wait for further reaction, she hit him with her knee in between his legs, while pressing the penknife harder into his body. Jayson violently caught her by the throat, so Hailie took out the penknife and stabbed him again. That was enough to make him release her, but she wasn't done. Hailie pushed him away from her and grabbed the golf club in the corner of the room.

"Fuck you, Jayson!" she screamed as she hit him with her whole strength in the leg, right in the place where she stabbed him in the past.

Jayson howled in pain so desperately that it almost made Hailie feel bad about such a violence. But this feeling quickly passed on. Thinking that it gave her enough time, she turned around to run away, but Jayson caught her by the ankle, making her hit the ground hard. The pain spread over her body and Jayson tried to pull her towards him. He took a piece of glass that was laying nearby and stuck it in her calf. She screamed and started kicking her foot until she hit him in the face, and he let go of her ankle.

Although both of them were in a deep pain, she was in a way better condition, or so she thought. While Jayson was struggling with his wound on the left side, she finally managed to leave the room and run down the corridor, until she reached the stairs.

The view of Amy's dead body made her froze for a moment. Looking at the pool of blood on the floor, at Amy's closed eyes, it terrified Hailie. She started crying, with her body trembling in fear. It was too real, irreversible. And it was just as scary as Hell. She hated Amy, but it was the girl that she shared a huge number of memories with, some good even.

"You have nowhere to run!"

Jayson's scream woke Hailie up. She ran downstairs, right to Amy's purse that was lying on the other end of the room. She started looking for the phone and car keys but couldn't find either of them. With the panic taking over her, she looked forward, noticing that the phone laid within her distance. Broken. Unable to use. Smashed by Jayson.

He must've prepared in case that Hailie would somehow run away. He broke Amy's phone, and he probably hid the car keys somewhere. She had no time to look for them. She could already hear Jayson's footsteps upstairs.

Then she understood another thing. She left him in the room with two guns.

She had nothing more to protect herself with.

Fortunately, Jayson didn't stab her in the calf deeply enough to make it unable to run. She was in a better condition and that was her advantage. He might've been a sportsman, but they had equal chances, since he was seriously wounded.

She managed to get to the door and ran into the dark, scary forest, knowing that Jayson will be soon downstairs as well.

It was about to be a run of her life.
