BONNIE REFUSED TO leave Sirius's side. After Madame Pomfrey could not tend to Sirius any longer, the man was sent to St. Mungo's in critical condition. He was hardly breathing on his own, the Healers doing everything they could to undo the dark scars from Bellatrix.
That was not the only reason she refused to leave his side as he laid unmoving.
She received a letter with a mesage on it that had her blood running cold.
His time is short. Better watch, dear sister, or I'll finish him off in the night. Who's to stop me? I'll see you soon.
With everything, she had forgotten about Christopher still lurking in the shadows. She did not see him at Hogwarts when his leader was destroyed, but she had not been thinking of him then.
Now, Frank promised, besides James, there would be Aurors around Sirius's room to make sure Christopher had no chance in hell to get in. Bonnie did not want to take any chances, however, so she had yet to leave the hospital room.
She held Sirius's cold hand, longing for him to wake up. The ebony-haired man laid peacefully, with a small smile on his face. Bonnie could not help but push some hair back that had fallen over his eyes. She sighed; seeing him like this physically hurt her because she did not know what she could do without him.
Two weeks later, it was November, and Sirius was doing better after his twenty-first birthday. He still was asleep, but he was growing stronger. The Healers said he would wake soon, but the induced coma was stronger since he had so many injuries. Bonnie left only James, Lily, and Remus alone with Sirius when she would be forced home to change and shower. Bonnie trusted no one else around her Sirius.
In November of 1980, Alice and Frank were expecting. It was easy, now, to picture their future with no lunatic trying to control the world. Sure, there were a few Death Eaters still lingering in the shadows to be caught, but there was no more fear now that Tom Riddle was dead.
Bellatrix had been taken to Azkaban to rot, and by Godric, Bonnie hope she rotted.
Lucius Malfoy was still alive and free, though, to his dismay, his wand was snapped. Any magic detected from him, and he would be sent to Azkaban. The only reason he was free was because of Narcissa's help in the Order and their son on the way.
Bonnie walked back into Sirius's room to find Remus and Maxwell talking to Sirius's body.
"Any improvement?"
Remus shook his head. "He twitched a bit when Max started talking, but nothing else."
"Yeah, he does that when I talk, too," Bonnie said with a light laugh. She sat next to Remus, pulling Maxwell onto her lap. "Where'd Lily and James go?"
"Lily was feeling nauseated," Remus said with a smirk.
Bonnie almost threw Maxwell from her lap as she squealed. "It's happening!" She looked to Sirius's body. "You hear that, sweetheart? You're going to be a godfather! Isn't that something to wake up for?"
Sirius's nose twitched.
"He's trying," Remus sighed. "It's odd. I've been in a few comas myself, and the darkness you see but the voices you hear... it's a magic all in itself."
When Remus went home as Maxwell fell asleep on his shoulder, Bonnie saw the red-head walk in with the brightest smile on her face. The bespectacled husband followed, both pulling Bonnie into the biggest mush of a hug.
Lily began to sob. "Thank you, Bonnie. Thank you so much."
Bonnie felt tears spring in her eyes.
"Without you, we wouldn't get to know our baby. We're going to be fucking parents!" James screamed so loud that Bonnie had to shush him with a laugh.
James pulled away from the crying females to walk over to Sirius. He nudged Sirius's shoulder. "C'mon, mate. Wake the bloody hell up! Our baby needs his or her godfather!"
Bonnie, still cradling Lily in her arms as the red-head laid her hands against her flat stomach, smiled as James continued to talk to Sirius about all of the godfatherly duties he would have.
"You'd be the godmother, right?" Lily whispered when James had finally calmed down. "It's because of you that we'll be able to live with our child, you know."
Bonnie hugged Lily tighter, James joining after a few moments. Bonnie caught James tearing up again. "Of course, I will. I can't wait."
James whooped loudly, fist pumping the air behind the two girls he was holding to his chest.
"I can't join the love-fest? I'm wounded, Prongs," a raspy voice croaked out.
"PADFOOT!" James screamed, gently nudging his pregnant wife and Bonnie aside to practically throw himself onto Sirius.
Lily wiped her happy tears just as more fell as the reunion of James and Sirius. Bonnie was smiling so much, feeling so much relief that he was okay. She backed out of the room to get the Healer. The Healer had given Bonnie a clipboard, saying Lily could check over him since they were very busy. Lily had passed all of her exams, and she was still working on her training for higher medical emergencies. This was just checking Sirius's vitals.
Walking back in, she saw Sirius's face pressed against Lily's stomach—going back and forth from his ear to his lips as he spoke and tried to listen for a reply. James and Lily were just watching in amusement.
"Hey, godson. This is the best person you'll ever meet," Sirius said, eyes trained on Bonnie. "She's your godmother, and she saved the world so you don't have to. Isn't she great?"
Bonnie snorted at his adorable face. She handed the clipboard to Lily. "Gene said for you to check his vitals. They are busy."
"Too busy for me?" Sirius scoffed. "I see. I rather Lilyflower anyway."
James grinned as he watched his beautiful wife work on checking Sirius. Once Sirius seemed in perfect health, Lily said she would go find Healer Gene to get Sirius discharged. James followed her like a lost puppy.
Bonnie took their place on the side of the bed, hand reaching out to caress Sirius's cheek. "I thought I lost you, Siri."
"Like hell," Sirius murmured, moving his face to kiss Bonnie's palm. "I'm just sorry I kept you waiting so long. I tried to wake up when I heard Max talking. The little bugger is loud, you know?"
Bonnie laughed and nodded. "Took Lily getting pregnant for you to wake."
"You don't become a godfather everyday!"
Bonnie grinned. "He'll be my third godson," she whispered with an amused glint in her eye.
"Well, I'm going to live longer than your past life. I'll have many more," Sirius proclaimed. He pulled Bonnie's hand to make her trip onto his bed. He grinned smugly, kissing her firmly on the lips. "Let me tell you how hot you were fighting Voldemort. I may have been dying, but I appreciated the view from my spot on the ground—Ow!"
Bonnie flicked his nose with a loud laugh. "You're impossible!"
"Impossible!? No, you mean impressive, important, im-amazing, im-wonderful—"
"You're making shit up," Bonnie deadpanned.
Sirius kissed her once more before Lily walked in with papers. She handed them to Bonnie with a quill. "Sign these, and he's free to go."
"Why can't I sign myself out?" Sirius complained.
James sniggered. "They need someone who is responsible for you to sign."
"I'm responsible for myself!"
Bonnie rose a brow before going back to the documents.
"How is the Ministry? The world?" Sirius asked after James helped him stand as Bonnie helped him get his shoes on.
Lily sighed. "Well, there is an election for Minister, but a man named Cornelius Fudge is acting-Minister to get everything sorted. I heard from Fabian that Alastor Moody is running."
"He's got my vote," Bonnie said. "He's blunt enough to get shit done. Fudge was awful in my past life."
The three friends shook their head in amusement, still amazed how much Bonnie had went through.
"Well, all of the departments are required back to work next Monday to get the offices back to shape. After the holidays, the election will take place," James finished for Lily. "As for Hogwarts, Minnie is taking over!"
Sirius grinned wide. "That's perfect!"
"And guess who will be taking over Defense Against the Dark Arts since the curse was lifted?" Bonnie said to Sirius with a wiggle of her eyebrows. James and Lily grinned at this. Sirius shrugged, not knowing where she was going with this. "Remus Lupin—our very own Moony will be Professor Moony now!"
Sirius cheered, grinning proudly. He could not wait to talk to Remus. James and Lily said they would see them later, for they were going to tell Lily's parents the news. Sirius held onto Bonnie as they disapparated to their home.
"What about his monthly?" Sirius asked after a few moments of Bonnie making sure her fiancé was comfortable on the couch since he still had to rest until his muscles were completely fixed. She had brought him a cuppa as she settled next to him. "You haven't made progress with your Werewolf Rights thing since everything went on? Have you?"
Bonnie smiled. "Since Remus helped fight for the Order, the Board for Hogwarts and the Ministry has decided to use Remus as the test subject. As long as he takes his potion and stays away from the children during the moon, he'll be fine. They did say he only had one chance. If something happened, they would go back to how it was."
"And Remus agreed?"
"He wants a better life not only for himself but for Maxwell."
Sirius smiled fondly. "That's good. I hope Remus gets everything he deserves. He's so wonderful, you know?"
"Oh, I think everyone knows," Bonnie said with a laugh. She twisted her ring on her finger, grinning up at Sirius. "I don't know what to do with myself," she admitted sheepishly. "I'm not looking for pieces of Tom's soul. I'm not fighting or dying. It seems too serene."
Sirius grabbed her empty hand. "It's what we deserve. We are going to start our future now. No going back, right?"
Bonnie laughed. "I've done enough time turning to last me two lives."
He grinned cheekily. "Funny."
"I try."
When Bonnie put her hand in her pocket, she found the slip of paper with Christopher's message on it. "Well, there is one thing we have to worry about," Bonnie admitted.
She showed Sirius. Sirius's hands clenched around his mug. "I'd like to see Christo-twat try and hurt me."
He did try.
It was three days later when Bonnie heard something in her kitchen. Thinking it was one of her friends, she left her wand in the bedroom. Walking into the living room, she flicked the switch for the lights and saw a battered and bruised Christopher. He looked awful, deadly. He had a manic glint in his eyes thay was looking for blood.
"Get out," Bonnie said strongly. She had gone through enough. She was done fighting. "Now, Christopher."
"Is that any way to greet your brother?" he sneered loudly.
"It is if I don't want to see him. Get out."
Christopher shot a spell at Bonnie, missing her and hitting the wall with a loud bang.
Sirius woke up, noticing Bonnie's side of the bed empty. He jumped up with his wand, opening the door quietly.
"If I am going to Azkaban, at least they'll have a reason. Avada Ked—"
"Expelliarmus!" Christopher's wand shot from his hand and clattered on the ground. Sirius stepped in front of Bonnie with a glare that could kill. "Stupefy!"
Christopher ducked, the spell missing him. Christopher ran at Sirius Muggle-style, trying to hit him with his fist. Sirius grinned, dropping his own wand to land a rough blow to Christopher's face.
Christopher fell to the ground with a thud.
Bonnie picked up Sirius's wand, pointing it at Christopher. She summoned her Patronus, calling for Moody. Christopher was sentenced to Azkaban, and Bonnie could not help but wish it was worse. She wished she had the guts to take another life, but taking one ripped her apart on the inside.
Sirius held her to his chest firmly as the Prewetts and Moody dragged Christopher from their flat.
It was truly over. They could be at peace. The question was, how long would it last?
Bonnie hoped, for her sake, it lasted forever.
