Ch. 24 - THE DIVINE MOVE

Suddenly an Oni appeared in front of Kira and swung it's sword at her but she quickly blocked it with her own. Eventually, four others showed up, boxing the group in the middle. "What the hell is this? Where are we?" Scott asked.

"Between life and death." The Nogitsune said making Odette suck in a deep breath, "Bardo." She said. "But, there are no peaceful deities here, Ma colombe." He said shaking a finger at them, 'You're dying, Stiles... And now, everyone you care about is dying, too."

"What? What do you mean?"

"I've captured almost all of the territories on the board, Stiles- the hospital, the sheriff's station, and now the animal clinic." The Nogitsune said making their eyes widen, "Do you know the ritual of seppuku, Stiles?"

"No... And I don't want to."

"When a samurai disembowels himself with his own sword to maintain his honor. But that's not the cut that kills him- the killing stroke is made by his kaishakunin, who beheads the samurai with his own katana. Scott... Scott is your kaishakunin. I'm going to make your best friend kill you, Stiles. And you're going to let him... Because, just like you, they're all going to die. Everyone touched by an Oni's blade... Unless Scott kills you, first." He said, now face to face with Stiles.

"Why? Why are you doing this?"

"To win the game." The Nogitsune whispered and then suddenly the Oni started spinning around their swords, preparing to attack making Scott wolf out and Kira hold up her katana while Odette pulled Lydia and Stiles back, keeping a tight hold in Stiles and they watched as Scott and Kira tried to fight off the Oni.

"How is this happening? How are we in this place?" Scott yelled as he and Kira went back to back, "You're asking me? A month ago, I'd never even touched a sword! " Kira yelled. Suddenly one of the Oni made Kira lose her katana and was now cornered by two of them.

Stiles suddenly pulled away from Odette and grabbed Kira katana. "Stiles?" Odette asked worriedly and then he slowly brought the katana up to his stomach making her eyes widen. "Stiles!" She yelled making Scott look over.

"Stiles! No!" He said and Stiles looked up at them. "What if it saves you? What if it saves all of you?"

"What if it's just another trick?" Odette asked with fearfully tears in her eyes, not wanting to lose Stiles after just losing her cousin. "No more tricks, Odette. End it, Scott. Let your friend fall on his own sword. Do for him what he cannot do for himself. Do it, Scott- be his kaishakunin. Give up the game. You have no moves left." The Nogitsune said but Stiles noticed something on the reflection of the katana.

He looked off to the side then tossed Kira her sword, looking over at the Nogitsune, "I do. A divine move. Stop fighting them! It's an illusion! You have to stop fighting them. It looks real and it feels real, but Scott, you gotta trust me- it's an illusion."

Scott and Kira slowly started making their way to the door, grunting and crying out as the Oni's sliced them with their swords. Then suddenly they were back in the halls of Beacon Hills High. No cuts, no blood, nothing, as if it never happened.

"We're okay. We're-" Scott said but was suddenly cut off by getting thrown into the lockers making them all turn around to see Void, punch Kira. Odette quickly wrapped her arm around Stiles and grabbed Lydia's hand as Void looked up at them. "This was my game. You think you can beat me at my game?" He asked, walking towards them making them gently start to walk back.

"Divine move... Divine move? You think you have any moves at all? You can kill the Oni, but me? Me? I'm a thousand years old, you can't kill me!" He yelled while Odette pulled Lydia and Stiles back, "But we can change you!" Odette yelled making him stop and look at them curiously. "What?" He asked, "You forgot about the scroll." Stiles said and Lydia smirked.
