Chapter 46
Days had passed and soon I had recovered and was discharged from the hospital. Mom and Cole had visited and seemed to want to take Zayrene after just meeting her.
Laughing at the memory, I rocked her in my arms, as I watch the view from the window in the bedroom. I had grown accustomed to. Zay cooed as her hands balled up swinging around.
"Energetic even in the afternoon, aren't you Zay?" I asked as I continued to rock her.
A knock echoed through my bedroom, bringing my attention away from the baby. I muttered a 'Come in' as Zander popped his head inside.
"Have you eaten yet?" he asked walking towards us.
Nodding, I smiled at him. I heard him sigh as his face looked surprised at my words.
"What's wrong?" I questioned, my eyes searching his.
"It's nothing, I just had a date planned out for us, but it seems you've eaten." he said flabbergasted at my speed to eat.
I laughed at his expression. "There's always dinner, but Zander, i think it's best we hold and outings for the time being, just until I feel comfortable leaving Zay in someone else's care." I smiled.
For some reason, something didn't feel right. My heart just wouldn't let me feel at peace. It was as though the moment I let my guard down, I was going to be devoured by something uncomfortable.
Sighing, I tried pushing the thoughts away, lessening the stress that seemed to make itself present.
"Well, if that's what you wish for, then it shall be." he said cringily making me burst out into laughter.
Though Zander, in the past few days, had did his utmost best to make it up to me, the cringy lines he kept bringing up just seemed to make his efforts worthwhile.
" By the way, your mom's here." He said making my eyes widen.
"Zander! Why didn't you mention that earlier?!" I asked as I put my shoes on.
"Well, with all the visits, I mean, I think I deserve to have you just for a little bit." he chuckled as I threw a punch at his arms, unfazing him.
Sighing at his childish behavior, I made my way out of my room toward the living room down the stairs.
"Mom" I said as she turned with an overjoyed smile.
Funny thing was the smile wasn't for me, but for Zayrene.
"Come here my beloved" mom said as she took Zay out of my arms. Smothering her with kisses.
I couldn't help but feel like the abandoned daughter. I felt Zander come up behind me as he rubbed my shoulders.
"You've been looking around quite a bit, is everything okay?" he asked, whispering I my ear, noticing my demeanor.
I hadn't even noticed my eyes were wandering. Was I maybe just feeling paranoid? I couldn't understand.
Clearing my mind, I turned to face him, a smile on my face. "Just a little paranoia." I replied.
Zander searched my eyes for some kind of falter, but I looked away.
"Alpha Cole says to come visit the pack sometime, so we can celebrate the birth of Zay." mom said reiterating his request.
Cole seemed to give up on his lingering feelings for me and congratulated Zander and I after Zay was born. He abd Zander seemed to have mended a good relationship after that, and Zander hasn't been showing any expreme territorial instincts.
"I'll have to think about it..." I said with a forced smile.
"It's not good to stay cooped up, especially after the Full birth process." mom said as she locked eyes with me, her stern tone boomed in my ears.
Squirming in my spot, I couldn't help but want to turn her down.
"Mrs. Summers, I know you mean well, but Rene, seems to feel uncomfortable leaving the house. Give it a bit more time and we'll be sure to come." Zander coaxed.
Mom sighed giving in to our request. "Seems there's no helping it. I don't know what it is that got you so cautious, but once everything settles down, be sure to come." She smiled as she reached out her hand stroking my hair and my cheeks.
Nodding, I smiled giving her a sense of satisfaction. The morning continued with mom playing around with Zay, as Zander and I leisurely sat back on the couch exchanging small talk.
I felt as though eyes were on me, and the uncomfortable feeling had me shuffling in my seat. Paranoia, really was getting to me.
"What's wrong?" Zander questioned yet again. "and no Irene, you're not fine." he said as he held my hand in his.
"It's really nothing, I'm really okay." I confesses ignoring the bitter part of me that kept me alert.
And, i wish i didn't.
