CHAPTER 1

IS HE FOLLOWING ME?

"Skye!" my mom screamed from down the stairs. "C'mon you're going to be late for school and I'm going to be late for work if you don't get down right now!"

"I'm coming!" I replied, shoving my school things in my bag.

My mum loved being on time. She was the exact opposite of me in looks and personality. She had short black hair, blue eyes and her skin was pale white. While I on the other hand, looked a lot like my dad with light brown hair, green eyes and tanned skin. My dad doesn't live with us anymore. He got a job offer in Paris and just couldn't let it go. My mom loved it here in London, with her boyfriend and job. She was a fashion designer. Her boyfriend is the reason why dad left without informing us. Mom was with another guy and dad found out the day he got the good news. I was devastated, but I couldn't do much about it. I couldn't complain. Even with dad out of the picture, I still had this great life with mom and George, her boyfriend. George was nice. He sorted things out with mom and me when he moved in. He didn't know that mom was married, so I couldn't treat him so coldly knowing he wasn't the exact reason why my parents separated. He reminded me a lot of dad. His features were the same, light brown hair, green eyes. The only difference was that he had pale white skin like mom. He was a construction designer.

"C'mon Skye lets go! Go! Go!" George yelled as I almost lost my footing running down the stairs. Quickly getting my balance, I flicked my hair out of my face and stepped into the garage. I was clumsy at times.

"Lets go!" I said, a little embarrassed. George and I were inseparable. He never made me feel like I didn't have a father in my life. We were both crazy and outgoing and in some ways immature. I guess that's why I didn't mind him taking dads spot in my life.

We got in the car and he dropped mom off, then me.

"Have fun!" He said as I got out of the car. I noticed this tall guy standing outside the school gates. He was dressed all in black, on a sunny day. I turned back to George.

"George, its school, I don't think its possible," I said closing the door.

"You never know yeah?" he said with thumbs up. "C'mon, first day, positive thoughts. Text me when you want me to come pick you up okay?"

"Jeremy's my ride home, remember."

He gave me a nod and a little wave and left. The other thing I liked about George is that he didn't mind me calling him George.

I turned on my heel and walked into school. I looked back at where the weird guy dressed in black was standing but he was gone.

Huh, weird.

Jen joined me as I made my way up the stairs and into the hallways.

"Hi!" she sang. Jennifer Marsters, also known as Jen, was one of my close friends. We weren't best friends though. She was probably the only 'girl' friend I had that I was really close with, since I hung around boys more, due to less drama. She had blue eyes, wavy long hair and was a brunette. I knew her well. She's very confident but shy when it comes to boys. She was also very intelligent.

"Hey! Hey! Hey!" I said, nudging her with my shoulders.

"How was Paris?"

It was a new year, and she had been to Paris in the holidays. The thought of Paris reminded me of James, my dad.

We stopped at her locker and she stuffed some things into her bag.

"Great! French boys are hot! And their accents, hotter!"
