It was too much for me to take, when Gandalf said that Merewen would not come out alive from this, because Elladan had taken over Elrohir’s body, but he was warped somehow, and there would be no stopping him. No one noticed Legolas slip away until there was no catching him; we all assumed that he was going to help Merewen.

I was glad that Haldir was here with me because I would not have been able to get through any of this alone. I was extremely saddened, also, by the fact that Elrond may lose both of his sons to this. I watched the Lord leave the room, with a look of sadness and pain across his face. I would have comforted him, but he would never allow it, for he needed to be alone. Also I was too wrapped up in my own feelings to do so.

I was ecstatic when I saw Legolas and Merewen carrying Elrohir’s living and breathing body. I called for Lord Elrond, and we ran down to them. Merewen told us not to worry about her, just to take care of Elrohir for he was worse off. ‘Just like Merewen!’ I thought to myself, as we did as she bid and cared for Elrohir. I watched Legolas in the corner helping Merewen, after we were sure that Elrohir was all right.

I walked over to Merewen and asked, “How did you do it? Gandalf said that it was impossible, but it appears that it’s just Elrohir once more.”

“I just used my powers to… to, well, I’m not quite sure exactly. I just urged the darkness that had overtaken Elladan’s spirit into me.” She smiled briefly, “He gave me his blessing for whatever I am going to do, whether it involves a certain elf, or not!” I smiled at her knowing that it meant a lot to her to have Elladan’s blessing, and now she could move on.

I was glad when Merewen actually said that she would come to my wedding, for I wasn’t sure if she would after what she had been through. It was a simple ceremony, put together quickly at my and Haldir’s wishes. After we kissed, we ran off for some much-desired time alone. We spent the next few days alone, not wanting to part each other even though we had all eternity to spend together.

When we returned, I went in search of Merewen, for I needed to know how she faired. I found her in the gardens, sitting on the side of the fountain. She was placing flowers in the fountain, and she was singing something, which I would not have heard if I wasn’t an elf, but I heard.

When I think back on these times
and the dreams we left behind
I'll be glad 'cause I was blessed
to get to have you in my life
When I think back on these days
I'll look and see your face
you were right there for me
In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky
In my heart there'll always be a place for you, for all my life
I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am there you'll be
And everywhere I am there you'll be
Well, you showed me how it feels
To have the sky within my reach
And I always will remember all the strength you gave to me
Your love made me make it through
Oh, I owe so much to you
You were right there for me
In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky
In my heart there'll always be a place for you, for all my life
I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am there you'll be
Cause I always saw in you my life, my strength
And I want to thank you now for all the ways
you were right there for me
you were right there for me
Always
In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky
In my heart there'll always be a place for you, for all my life
I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am there you'll be
And everywhere I am there you'll be
There you'll be

I smiled at the thought that she was singing a lament for Elladan, finally coming to terms with the fact that he was gone, in body but not spirit. I decided it was best to leave her to her thoughts and headed off to find Legolas.
