They label us
Violent
Ignorant
Prideful
Useless
Have thy forgotten our people built this country.
Tilled this land
Broke their backs for nothing
Years later we still strive for what they sung, prayed, and wished for
Equality
For all men no matter what color
No matter what religion
Can stand and see
That we're all brothers and sisters
We all bleed the same blood
And cry the same tears
But our color blinds them from what could be
Instead they kill our children in the hopes of weakening us.
Gun down the innocent
While the real evil pulls the trigger
In hushed breathes they speak the truth
But in booming voices they promote lies
When will it end?
The oppression that no one wants to see
The unspoken tension they feel when they see us
In ones
Twos
Threes
They hide the fact that they fear us not because of who we are
But what we've overcome
We strive for better and they knock us down with worse
But the difference between us and them
We always find our way back to our feet
