People come into our lives
In blameless paper ships
Muses, mentors, saints, and stars
All heroes made of ink
Alas, these ink heroes
Not all of them survive
And though they die inside their ships
Our hearts keep them alive
We gather here today to say
Our last goodbyes to those who made us
Think about the world
Reflect upon ourselves
Stop and help so many others
Our friends on our bookshelves
So take this time to write some lines
About which heroes changed your lives
In blameless paper vessels
Through prose made to impress
Just because they don't exist does not mean they can't change us
