Lilith's mind was reeling at the information she was taking in. Emily handed her a glass of water, while a woman named Sue Clearwater was assessing her hand.

"So you all change into wolves? Like werewolves?" Lilith asked and then took a sip.

"Just the men with strong Quileute backgrounds." Sam clarified. He and Jared were watching her, Paul still hadn't come back after he wolfed out and ran away.

"And we're shapeshifters, we shift at will." Jared informed her.

Sue touched a sensitive part of her hand and she jerked it away. "It's definitely broken, sweetie."

Lilith sighed, "I figured. Thank you." She turned to look at everyone else. "I should get to the hospital."

"Do you want me to drive you?" Jared offered but Lilith shook her head.

"Thanks though, I'll see you guys later." She said and walked to Paul's house to get to her car.

The trees whipped by as she drove, completely lost in her head at everything that was getting thrown her way. Her boyfriend was a vampire and her best friend was a shapeshifter. She almost wished that she could go back to the times when all she had to deal with was her father. The journey wasn't that far and in no time at all, she made it to her destination

The nurses at the hospital greeted her as if they were old friends which was sad when you think about it. It just showed how much she was actually there.

"The doctor will see you now, Lilith." One of the nurses said.

"Thanks, Marsha." She waited in the room for a few minutes and then groaned when she saw that it was Dr. Cullen. "Please don't tell, Emmett. I'm not ready for an 'I told you so' moment."

He chuckled, "Judging by your smell, I can guess that you were in La Push?"

Lilith crinkled her nose, "What smell?"

"Like wet dog."

"So you guys do know about them?" She accused with narrow eyes. "Why didn't anyone tell me?"

"It's not our secret to tell. Now what happened?"

"I punched Paul in the face and broke my hand." She pouted.

He couldn't help but laugh and earned a glare from her as he worked to fix it. He gave her x rays and then made a cast.

"There, all done." It was gaudy and ugly, but it would help protect it while it healed properly.

"Thanks Carlisle."

"I hope that this is the last time."

She knew what he was getting at, so she didn't bother responding. As she was driving the short distance home, she could've sworn that she saw a flash of red out of the corner of her eye. But she when actually turned her head to look, she couldn't see anything.

Though she thought it was strange that her father wasn't home again, she didn't question it. Especially now that her hand was broken. The longer he stayed away, the better she'd heal. She made herself a grilled cheese and sat on the couch to read a book when the house phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey Lilith, it's Bella. Can you come over?"

She didn't miss the tone of Bella's voice that alerted her that something was wrong. "Yeah, I'll be right there."

She threw on a sweatshirt and all but ran out the door. It didn't take long to reach Bella's house and when she did, the brunette was already standing on the front porch.

"What happened to you?" They chorused.

Bella noticed her cast while Lilith noticed the gauze on her arm.

"I punched Paul, you? Also, happy birthday."

"I got a paper cut and Jasper reacted badly to my blood so Edward pushed me out of the way and I cut myself on glass. And thank you."

"Should I kill Edward now or later?"

Bella's eyes widened, "Lilith!"

"What? You got hurt when he was supposed to be protecting you." Lilith couldn't help but be angry and it didn't help that she already didn't like Edward.

"I should be saying the same about Paul. Anyways I'm worried about Edward, he keeps looking at me funny now." Bella said as they walked inside the house.

"Funny how?"

"Like I'm this delicate creature that needs protecting."

Lilith deadpanned, "In a room full of vampires, you are. He's just looking out for you."

"Never thought I'd see the day that you'd be defending my brother." Lilith cringed at Emmett's voice and slowly turned around as her back was to him. His eyes went from light and joking to angry when he saw her cast. "What happened?" He was in front of her in a blink, gently holding her injured arm.

"I sort of... punched Paul."

"Why? What did he do?" His form was tense and angry at the sound of that werewolf harming his mate.

"Nothing, he just scared me a little and I reacted by hitting him. Calm down, Emmett." She touched his arm gently and he looked into her eyes.

Suddenly, Lilith felt herself being picked up and wind began to whip her face. It was hard to concentrate on looking around as things blurred past her. When she stopped moving, she became nauseous. Emmett set her down on her feet and held her upper arms as her body slightly swayed.

"A little warning next time would've been nice." Her stomach churned.

"Sorry, babe." He replied as he gently rubbed her back.

"So why'd you come to Bella's?"

"I wanted to see you and I smelled you there."

"Smelled me?"

Emmett brought her over to a log and sat down, then pulled her on his leg so that she sat on it sideways and could see his face.

"Vampires have enhanced sight, smell and sometimes extra abilities." He started to explain.

"Like how Edward can read minds?" Lilith cut in.

Bella had told her this tidbit of information. It made sense when she thought about all those times she said something mean about them in her head and he looked at her with daggers in his eyes.

Emmett nodded, "Alice can see decisions in the future, Jasper can feel and project emotions and I'm a little stronger than most."

Lilith digested the information for a minute. "But that still doesn't explain why you came to Bella's."

"Lilith, you don't understand how I feel about you," He started and looked into her eyes so that she knew he was serious. "We're going at your pace but you mean everything to me. Vampires have mates, our other half, and you're mine. I know it's a lot to take in but try not to feel pressured."

"It's kind of hard not to..."

"I know," He grabbed her uninjured hand with a gentleness that she didn't know a man as big as he could possess and kissed it. "So when you tell me to not worry, I will anyways because of what you are to me."

He pressed his cold forehead to hers and they both closed their eyes. The feeling of belonging filled her, something she hasn't felt in awhile. Here in Emmett's arms was somewhere that she wanted to be forever.
