The clink of metal chopsticks was the only noise in the dining hall, everyone surreptitiously trying to eat without looking at Canada.

The lanky country was sitting ramrod straight, hands shaking as he ate the rice on his plate. His shoulders were hunched up around his head, eyes darting nervously around at all of them, not settling for too long on any one person.

Y/N had followed SH's lead, taking one of the cushions next to the Canadian, looking apologetically at Korea as she did so. The table had been arranged for Canada to be closest to the door, and the more threatening countries to be on Korea's side of the table.

Y/N couldn't help but feel guilty that they were treating him less like a person, and more like a dog that had been kicked frequently by its previous owner.

"So," Kangwon said, attempting conversation. "Did you sleep well?"

Canada flinched, eyes widening. "M-Me?" He pointed at himself.

Korea looked like he was physically biting his tongue to avoid snapping at the country.

"Yeah." Kangwon smiled, unbothered. "I hope that the futon was comfortable enough. You're probably not used to sleeping on that."

"Y-Yeah," Canada stuttered. "It was great." His hand twitched, dropping the rice from his fork. Luckily it landed on his plate. "Sorry," he muttered, flushing.

Suddenly the door burst open, Hae running in as a blur of pink and white. Her face was flushed, panting, and Korea was on his feet, immediately alarmed.

       "What happened?" he demanded.

"Happened?" Hae looked confused. "Nothin'. Ah ran downstairs to meet Canada." She bowed quickly, beaming as she forced her way between Y/N and the Canadian. "Nice to meet you ah'm South Hwanghae but you can call me Hae."

Canada blinked, eyes wide with shock as the little province released her stream of words.

"What's your country like? Are ya really like 'Nation and Destiny?' Have ya ever tried jjajjangmyeon before?" Hae grabbed the Canadian's hands in hers, eyes sparkling. "How do ya like our Pyongyang?"

"Hae!" Korea snapped. "Who's watching the... patients?" He looked at Canada.

       "UIP," the Provincehuman said dismissively.

"I am going to kill you. Upstairs- now." Korea glared at his province. "You can bombard him with questions later."

Hae squealed, leaping to her feet as Korea started to take off his sandal. "Sir yes sir!" She saluted, grinning as she ran away.

"W-What just happened?" Canada asked shakily.

"That was my province, South Hwanghae," Korea growled. "Who needs to understand that mentally unstable republics do not make good guards, especially when they are locked up, too."

"What about you?" South Pyongan grinned cheekily.

"You are really testing me lately." Korea glowered at her.

"But, I mean." Canada looked slightly amazed. "They- Your provinces all actually listen to you?"

"Define 'listen.'" Korea tossed his sandal at South Pyongan, who was whispering with China. She tossed it back.

"I mean, I can barely get Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and Ontario in the same room, let alone make them all live together." Canada looked at Korea, though not quite in the eye. "How do you do it?"
