Introduction

About five years ago I started writing a book, the plot of which included a nation walling itself in with a full perimeter border fence and the outbreak of a deadly new virus. So, uh... yea. That all ended up being disturbingly relevant. I guess as they say, "fact is stranger than fiction".

DISCONTINUED is a completed 103,000-word Young Adult fictional novel written from the third person limited points of view of the story's main protagonist, LUNA (16) and her father GARRETH. It's a story of love, loyalty and loss. Love, enduring and faithful between a husband and wife, a father and daughter and amongst three friends. Loyalty despite the consequences, brave and true even at the expense of romantic love when that love or loyalty is the choice. And a series of tragic, devastating losses that, as they mount, threaten to crush the protagonist. The love and loyalty are real and inspirational, but just as real is the sense of loss, and the story leaves the reader deeply sympathetic for the protagonist and saddened by their situation.

I've included a "teaser trailer" with this introduction. Please note that while I admit that it is a bit of a "spoiler" (in the sense that most trailers are to some extent), the other videos in that YouTube channel are even more so, so perhaps better to save watching those until after you've read the book :)

I've also created a Spotify playlist to accompany the book and will provide that link below. Songs have been arranged in more or less "chronological" book order to give you a sense for the mood arc of the story, and those songs that are very chapter / scene specific will be referenced as "author notes" in the book itself.

Thanks, and enjoy!

:)

P.S. I'm not sure that this Spotify link is super copy / paste-able here, so I'll include screenshots of the songs below just in case.  Again, songs have been arranged in more or less "chronological" book order to give you a sense for the mood arc of the story.
