I waited, impatiently. I knew my vote couldn't change a whole election, but I couldn't help but have a little faith, some hope Kane could be Chancellor instead of Pike. I was sitting next to Harper, she was just as nervous as me, with her leg bouncing.

"It's gonna be okay, no matter what," I tried to assure her, or maybe myself.

"I'm sorry," Kane's voice interrupted my little speech, as he gave us the saddest smile I'd ever seen. "I'm going to inform the new Chancellor."

I got up, following Kane. I had to stop them, at least try. I was just a kid and Pike was in charge now. Kane didn't let us in, making Harper and I wait for them outside the "prison" while they talked. I needed to see Bellamy, beg him not to do this. Bellamy was the last to leave the cell, I took a deep breath, I had to do this.

"Bell, please," I said as I stepped forward, trying to grab his arm. "Don't do this, you have to know this is wrong."

He just stared at me, emotionless, looking nothing like the Bellamy I knew and loved.

"Is there a problem?" One of Pike's people asked.

"No, just make sure she doesn't follow us," Bellamy answered.

The guard quickly pointed his gun at me to make sure I wouldn't follow them. Harper tried to make him leave and I watched as Bellamy walked away while I screamed for him to stay.

I couldn't help the tears growing in my eyes, as I felt powerless and useless. I hated Pike, I really did. The guard walked me to my room, to make sure I wouldn't try to stop them, and Harper followed me, to make sure I was okay.

The sun was raising and I couldn't sleep, I knew Bellamy and the others would already be back and I could finally leave my room, but I wasn't so sure I wanted to.

I did anyway, opening the door slowly, it seemed like the air outside was contaminated with the heaviness of what my people had just done. I stepped outside, looking for Octavia.

"O!" I called as soon I saw her, it was very early, but everyone was already up, probably because of the noise coming from outside.

"(Y/N)!" She called back as she walked to me. "Have you seen Bellamy?"

"He..." Before I could answer the gate opened and they walked in, covered in blood and, hopefully, guilt.

"Bellamy, you okay?" Octavia ran to him. I walked behind her, still feeling overwhelmed.

"I'm fine." He answered, without looking at either of us.

"What happened out there?" She tried but he walked away from us.

I looked at the gate and Pike was coming in, behind everyone else.

"Lock it up," Pike screamed and so they did. "Everybody, listen up." He said as he stepped into a platform, to talk to us. "24 hours ago you elected me your chancellor. Every action I've taken since and every action I will take will be to achieve one sacred goal. The creation of a self-sustaining, prosperous, and safe Arkadia. This morning on a muddy field our people paid tribute to those who have been taken from us by sending a message to the Grounders. This land is ours now!"

I couldn't help but feel rage spread through me, and part of me wanted to grab a gun and shoot him, no matter the consequences. Lincoln got closer to O and me so I stopped listening to Pike and turned my attention to him instead.

"I'm so sorry," I said. "I tried to stop them, but..."

Lincoln didn't answer, probably because he didn't know what to.

Pike left as his followers went along.

"Octavia, I need to talk to you. Alone." Kane said as he got closer to us.

"Oh, okay..." I answered Kane. "Good luck," I whispered to her and then watched as they both left.
