22 - The Story of Love [Completed]

13. Confession

Staring outside at the building of flats from his car window, he thought to himself once again and then wearing his cap over his head, came out of the car and walked towards the building's entrance.

As he reached the door, which was secured with internal communal entrance, he realised he would have to call for access inside so gathering up courage, that is what he did. Recognising that one name, he pressed the direct call button and waited for a few moments but then soon after heard the door unlock. He hadn't even asked who it was but just unlocked the door.  His father was always this careless. Daniel had smiled sarcastically while entering the building.

Upon reaching the flat, he knocked on the door without any hesitation and heard a faint "come in" from inside. Daniel shook his head and turned the door handle and entered inside.

"So, you are still careless, lazy and just as useless as you were back then. Time and money, both couldn't change you. They are right when they say it then, human nature never changes."

Shawn got up from his sofa with a jerk and started walking towards the corridor where Daniel was.

"What are you doing here?"

"Come on, dear father. Is this how you welcome your son who has come to your home first time? Where are your manners?"

"Cut it short, why are you here?"

"Well, you helped two professional cricketers play against their own team, we got our due punishment, but the one who initiated the crime is still roaming free so we should make everything fair no? That's why I am here."

Shawn's face was turning red with anger as Daniel glared at his directly.

"You told me to play a fixed game, I did. You said you won't leak my pictures to the media, but you still did. You think I will let you go away just like that. Wrong. Very wrong. Now let's get to work, take a seat dear father. I am very considerate of the people I visit unlike you."

"Daniel. Just go away."

He had laughed hearing Shawn's trembling voice.

"The police already have your address, they have control over the CCTV of this area and they are keeping a special eye on you. Zero points for guessing who reported to them. But now let me come to the point. Tell me who has been helping you? You tell me, I leave. You don't, I give your phone record to the police, they will find that person themselves. So best to save them a job, they are already very busy protecting this country from criminals like you."

Shawn came forward in anger and punched Daniel pushing him on the floor. When he tried to get up, he punched him in the stomach and on his face a few more times leaving Daniel to collapse on the floor.

"You think you will come to me and I will tell you everything? Do whatever you want, I won't tell you and if this much beating isn't enough for you, should I give you more?"

Daniel had to do nothing; he was on the floor injured but his screams through the voice call had signalled the police officers waiting outside the building that something had gone wrong. They rushed to Shawn's flat and arrested him for using violence against another civilian. While Daniel was rushed to the hospital for some urgent care.

Despite Daniel's efforts to keep this quiet, Shawn's abuse reached the media fast and everyone started to understand why Daniel was meeting with his father and why he left injured and ended up in hospital. Reading the news on his phone, he sighed and shook his head.
