Ch 9: Just Can't Anymore

"You're really scaring me, Clarity." Sara stepped across the pillow line Clarity had set, walking towards her. "Do you know that?"

"It's okay, Tyler always thought I was scary with what I can do, deep down guess I knew it would only be a matter of time before you thought so too. Your a lot braver than he was but even you have limits. All those things kendra used to say are starting to make sense aren't they? I'm a lot more dangerous than she thought I was though."

"No, No Clarity," Sara's voice was soft as she spoke, as if any higher it would lose the composure she'd crafted for herself. Sara had never seen Clarity like this. Not when her not kid died, not when Clarity was convinced the leviathans were going to kill them, but then again Sara had yet to be around Clarity after she'd accidentally murdered. "I'm not scared of you." Sara denied, setting down the cup of strawberries on a shelf, she sat on the edge of Claritys bed right beside her. "I could never be scared of you, not ever. I-I'm scared for you and I don't, I want to help you, Clarity but I don't know how to protect you from yourself. What do you even think your doing? You keep this up, you don't eat, you don't use your powers, one way or another you're going to die. Is that really what you want? Your just gonna die on your Captain?"

"I can't live like this anymore, Sara." Clarity finally looked to the assassin. "These powers..if they won't go then I have to."

"No, you don't." Sara denied. "Look, what happened back there it was Rip's fault, not yours. Those agents, Tyler, none of them should have even been there. Most of those guys were dead anyways even Tyler was. You just put them out of their misery. Finished them before Darhk could."

"I stole whatever slim chance they had to be saved for myself. I would have lived with just doing Tyler in, I should have just died instead, but I felt so drained and I felt the lightning humming, it was all right there. I got enough that I knew I wasn't gonna slip away, but I was so low on power.... Didn't realize until after it was already done. I hadn't thought about it. Darhk left them with a fighting chance, I took it away."

"You've had your powers for years now, you've lived with them just fine. So you made a mistake while you were drugged and dying, that doesn't mean you stop taking care of yourself. That you stop living. Clarity you love being a hero. So be one, save yourself already. I'll help you, we all will."

"I don't deserve to be saved." Clarity denied. "Darhk's alive and kicking because of me. I couldn't stop it, I tried to stop it, that witch just ended up using me instead. If I wasn't there maybe agents could have sabotaged the machine and he'd still be dead. Maybe everyone in that barn would have been alive if I wasn't there." 

"Hey," Sara objected, "I would rather have Damien Darhk be immortal living it up on a sunny island dancing on laurels grave on her birthday than see you dead. Do you understand? The absolute last thing that I want is to ever lose you from my life."

Clarity didn't reply, she just stared at the photo in her hands once more.

"Alright so what about Barry and Iris's wedding thats coming up? Your just going to die before that? Before you see that friend of yours married? Put a damper on his big day?" Sara challenged.

"Weddings are crowded with loved ones, I'm only the flower girl it's not like that's actually important like a bridesmaid. Safer if I'm not there." Clarity insisted.

"It is not. Clarity, do you know where I feel safest? Every time? When I'm with you. Your one of the only people who gives me that feeling."

"That only proves my point. You've gotten used to being comfortable in uncomfortable places. Dangerous places. I'm about as safe as ninja panda bat whatever except instead of a magic jacuzzi that'll bring you back to life I'll suck the life right out of you like an electric vampire. Guess we should have been hunting me back in London, the real danger was on the ship the whole time."
