Ch 8: Rip the mission highjacker

"Now, anachronisms are the result of your breaking time." Rip began again.

"It was her idea." Mick pointed to Sara.

"And better to have time broken which we can fix than be stuck in a reality that we can do nothing to alter." She looked to Sara. "It was the right choice." Sara couldn't stop the little smile on her face at Clarity's defense of her decision. It was nice, being supported instead of being thrown under the bus and expected to take the blame for whatever it crashed and broke.

"But these outliers, they are most certainly the work of Mallus." Rip insisted. "Now, the Time Bureau is a bureaucracy and lacks the imagination to understand this particular threat."

"Don't have to tell me that. They can't even handle an agent out of uniform." Clarity complained. "So, you've just been what? Dragging Jonas around with you searching for clues?"

"What other choice did I have? I couldn't very well leave him home alone. Not when Director Bennett objects to my crusade.  What I'm doing....it's not sanctioned by any means. Jonas gave his account to Director Bennet. What he saw through the cracks, the nightmares he's been getting. Even with Jonas having told him what he's been experiencing the man believes it to be nothing more than trauma, but I know my son. There is something very real, very evil, threatening him, and time. Two of the things in this world that are most dear to me. I need your help to protect them and stop Mallus."

"Hmm." Sara shared a look with Nate and Clarity.

"I'm alone out here." Rip told them. "My son's life is in danger, time is in danger. Surely you don't need more reason to help than that."

"So what I'm hearing is, your hot new girlfriend didn't give a damn about your kid, dumped you and now you're crawling back to your ex because you think we still care about you two?"

"The kid we feel bad for," Clarity crossed her arms, "he didn't do anything wrong but you never treated us too well. You only want us when you need us. Your not allowed to pick and choose which part of us you like the best either. That's not fair. It was so stupid to have let you but we were a little vulnerable after our breakup. Now though, It's all or nothing. This is us. We won't change, not for you."

"And I'm no one's side piece." Mick added.

"You know, I think they're onto something here." Sara smiled. "Look, sweetie. We would love to take you back, but we don't know how we could trust you again."

"Would circumstances be any different if I were to call off my hot new girlfriend's pursuit of you?" Rip asked them.

"Hmm." Nate and Sara bummed together as Clarity tapped her chin. Sara stuck out her hand to him. "Deal."

"Ah, ah, ah," Clarity glitched between them shoving Sara's hand down. "No, no, no wait, there is one more thing he has to say. You know what I want to hear. Cmon, those special three little words, babe."

"Like hell." Rip protested.

"Oh, guys guess he doesn't really want our help. His son can say it but he can't. Tsk, tsk." Clarity smirked lightly. "Cmon, be a man. Just say it. They're only words."

"I'm not going to say that." Rip protested. "You know they aren't."

"Your loss, better go tell Jonas the bad news." Clarity sing songed.

"Wait, wait, fine. Alright. It's the..." Rip grit his teeth as Clarity hummed expectantly putting her hand to her ear.

"What was that darling?" Clarity prodded. "Didn't quite catch it."

"It's the Tardis." Rip finally managed to spit out the words.

"Haha! Yes! Gid did you get that?" Clarity asked her.
